Jews.
Back then, they even had a policy of not playing black music videos since it was a New Wave/Rock oriented channel. Then the (((record executives))) like fag pedophile (((DAVID GEFFEN))), (((ED ROSENBLATT))), (((RICK RUBIN))), (((HERB ALPERT))) and (((WALTER YETNIKOFFF))) among others forced them to start playing black music or else they wouldn't get the rights from their labels.
People can watch music videos online at any time.
They had MTV Base for hip-hop for a while.
Internet happened. MTV only started doing reality tv shows in order to stay relevant.
Beavis and Butthead
That was followed by idiotic and incredibly stupid reality shows.
R.I.P. MTV. It was great in the 1980s, but things went to complete shit in the 1990s.
Real music makes real people who make more real music, we need to make fake people to create the metrix system
That's in the 2000s, I'm talking way back as in the early 80s.

high quality portable music happened. MTV produced one of the first reality shows, Real World, it got huge ratings so the rest is history.

I remember when MTV first started up, I was a petroleum brat in California and it was like this ascendant experience for people.
It was so crappy and cheesy, the channel itself was managed with less sophistication then most youtube retards manage these days.
But the video's, holy shit. I remember when the video for Beat It premiered, it was all anybody talked about, and when it happened it was like this event that everybody shared.
When I came back to Canada, our equivalent channel (Much Music) actually helped me discover Canadian artists, and I didn't even know that's what was going on. Like stuff like this youtube.com
Now it's all just whatever and they've devolved into reality tv because of the minuscule overhead during a downward trend in viewership, in some sense it sucks that we lost a shared experience, but on the other, being able to watch whatever we want on demand now without the filter of any one channel or network is fucking great too.
They want people to have MTV on all day long so they have a variety of shows, including comedy, drama, and music countdowns lined up to the parts of the day that they expect certain parts of their consumer base to be watching.
They literally try to line up drama reality shows with times of the day they expect young females to be doing chores, comedy shows with when they expect young males to be finding something to watch after getting drunk, music countdowns with when they expect couples and party groups to be gathering and mingling before going clubbing, etc.
Also, you can't brainwash stupid impressionable people when 90% of your play time is in the hands of individual music performers. It's too unpredictable,
That is literally the best music video of the 80s.
