Growing up Christian, I've only ever read the story on paper. As a kid, it almost seemed underwhelming. Like some dude was telling you, quite matter-of-factly, that some guy left his kingdom to bring plagues upon Egypt and free some other dudes from this evil dude.
Having ti actually play out, with sympathies for both characters; to actually have them humanized. It blew little kid version of me away. I finally understood it was more than just some words on paper, but rather a literal epic. A whole dramatic tragedy befitting the theatres of all the world and heaven itself.
Brother to fight brother. Slaves towards their masters. The will of man to resist the wrath of God. What a work of art.
