Austria has one of the most liberal gun laws in Europe. Everyone 18+ can get a rifle without a magazine (bolt action or double barrel etc.), no questions asked, no background check, just go into a shop and buy as many rifles as you like.

As to handguns and automatic rifles, they are more heavily regulated, but anyone with a hunting license or gun license can get them. To get such a license you just need to take a gun safety test or a hunting safety test.

Then there is conceiled carry licenses, if you are a hunter, you can take your rifles and handguns to and from the hunt, no questions asked.

If you want to conceiled carry your handgun, you need to have a reason. Back until the green party shills changed the admin practice a few months ago, in Austria most things were reasons - being a politician was a reason, being a doctor or a lawyer or taxi driver or bouncer or having gotten a threat or living in a neighborhood with a lot of immigrants.

I think his point was that he will advcoate returning to the old administrative practice to just tell authorities you have a reason to get a handgun or automatic rifle and then get it.
