A common tactic is to buy off potential competition or return favors with taxpayer money. As in "I hear Jones is thinking of running for state senate. If he wins, that will be bad for _____. Find Jones a (do-nothing) job for about $250k/yr. That'll get him out of our way." or "Donor X's nephew is a moron but we need to please Donor X. Find something for him."

And they should be nationally barred from any position that leaves them responsibility to handle money, not even a wal mart cashier job should be available to them. They should have extremely limited eligibility for employment after their party is removed, dismantled and ultimately destroyed, they should be working part time at best at minimum wage so they, and their children/grandchildren are perpetually in debt and buried in interest so deeply they can't afford to see the soles of the feet of the people standing on the poverty line.
