the camps were built early on in the war,when there was no shortage of material; bombardments of supply line and epidemic happened in the last stretch of the war, years later.

I don't know enough about the gaz chambers, but to me having crematoriums makes sense if you consider that a forced labour camp of this size is going to produce a lot of waste and that in the 30's, it was common to burn stuff to dispose of it; it was most certain used to dispose of bodies as well, but probably not designed for that sole purpose.
