I seem to be the only person who likes this episode

Best 10ant episode

I like this episode too but probably one of those episodes you would come back to every now and then.

I JUST rewatched that and I didn't hate it

I have a STRONG urge to rewatch Love and Monsters
Anyone casualwhostream?

Looking retrospectively on series 2, I don't hate it at all. Some stories were questionable, but I enjoyed it. I especially love how the super-silly and SUPER-DARK stories live together within one episode, I like how energetic stories are. Can't hate it.

It's alright, but it's one of those episodes where the monster is the least interesting thing about it.

I had a dream Paul McGann was in Jodie's first series. It was awesome. The companion was technically companions - a family of four, with an A Level student being the main companion, then two younger siblings and their single Dad, played by McGann. Part of the series arc revolved around the mystery of why McGann was there.13 recognised him, of course, but didn't say anything because McGann's character didn't seem to recognise her or know anything about time. Or did he? I don't know, because I woke up. :-(

I dislike it very, very much.

His hair triggers the fuck out of me how could they do such a thing to him

Of course you do

McGanon put your trip back on

I bet you dislike Love and Monsters too.

No, I like Love and Monsters a lot.

Do you agree that Love and Monsters is one of the most complicated and mature scripts in RTD's DW work?

OPINION DISCARDED

Hope its okay to post art and shit here, I'm trying to practice drawing... well, if you can't fucking guess who it is, I've failed. pls no bully

>McGanon put your trip back on
For once, it's not actually me! But clearly an user after my own heart.

Ehh, it's a fun look at fandom with some keen points made but I don't really think it holds a candle to some of his other episodes. I'd be interested to hear your opinion though.

Here's a fun series 2 fact people might not know: before Eccleston decided to leave, the plan wasn't that 9 would regenerate at the end of the S1 finale but that Rose would just collapse, wounded from all the Bad Wolf time vortex energy, and 9 would rush her off to the greatest hospital in the universe (in what would eventually become New Earth). The Christmas special was a later idea.

I like it, he looks very distinguished! Really like his hair.

Holy fuck you're talented pls do not put me out of the job I'm begging you mcganon

>For once, it's not actually me! But clearly an user after my own heart.
LIKELY STORY! Kek

On a narrative level, "Dr Who" invariably plays things pretty straight, presenting a linear progression of cause and effect, even when it's doing tricky Moffat timey-wimey things. The art usually lies in disguising the plot mechanics so that the story doesn't feel too brazenly constructed. Allied to this, the tone of the piece has to gel with the story; the authorial voice needs to be harmonious with the story. "Love & Monsters" eschews linearity from the offset by introducing a storyteller, and an unreliable one at that. This is Donald Cotton territory -- read the brilliantly witty "Dr Who and the Mythmakers" to see how superb he was at this stuff. Two authorial voices are at work in "Love & Monsters" (and a third is present too, in Dan Zeff) -- the voice of Russell T Davies and the voice of Elton Pope, and together they set the entire tone, which in turn flavours the way the story works.

An example: the seduction scene. We see it from Elton's viewpoint, as he narrates, but he's not the key character in the scene. Jackie is given, at first, semi-mythic status because of her associations with the Dr; then she's immediately humanised through humour (perfectly in character, she makes all the moves); and finally she's made real by the depth she's given when she reacts as a flawed, wounded, vulnerable person. The voice here belongs to Russell T Davies, who refuses to short-change his characters, and uses comedy as a device for us to really get to know them, before infusing drama into the mix.

Merci beaucoup, Neo! I appreciate the kind words.

Don't worry, the crippling self-doubt keeps me from drawing regularly, if at all, so your job is safe. (th-thank you though)

>LIKELY STORY! Kek
I haven't even slept yet, how on earth could I have had a dream, huh? Check and mate.

A fairly reliable spoiler hound says he's heard that Olafur Arnalds is scoring Doctor Who Series 11. Now, that might just be general chatter, given that he's a name who's been bounced around a fair few times, but Chris getting in as many people as possible from his Broadchurch crew - like Sam Hoyle, Jodie, apparently another actor, Ray Holman, etc., etc. - is no surprise.

What did he mean by this?

I think Love & Monsters is a good example of how a shit ending actually can color the rest of the episode in a negative light.

100%. Much like series 3.

>olafur arnalds OST
>charlie brooker writes an episode a year
>ensemble cast with an older guy

Is it going to be, dare I say, pure kino?

No, it's going to be shit.

If there's one thing I really, really want from S11, it's an ensemble cast. As far as I can remember, the vast majority of Chibnall's eps have had one, so I'd be shocked if we don't get a proper TARDIS team with 13.

>reliable spoiler hound
>as many people as possible being...3-4 people?
Everyone is just rumourhounding Broadchurch people coming on because it's a decently logical guess, just like Kris Marshall was once.

>Don't worry, the crippling self-doubt keeps me from drawing regularly, if at all,
You really should do more! Don't be a McGann and not give the world enough of your talents!

>charlie brooker writes an episode a year
I think it'll happen eventually but I don't see it happening soon with how much Netflix is pushing larger Black Mirror episode orders.

Screencap this post.

DW Series 11 will be a MAJOR success. 10 mil on opening Jodie episode, it'll be highly critically acclaimed. New OST and intro will be GOAT. It won't be resembling classics tho, something entirely new.
Doctor Who series 11 will have average ratings compared to Game of Thrones, if not higher.

whats so noteworthy about saying "s11 will be acclaimed" that it deserves a screencap? literally thousand upon thousand of people, if not more, already think so

You lost me completely with that last line.

>It won't be resembling classics tho, something entirely new.

A NEW SHOWRUNNER DOES SOMETHING NEW!?!?!?! I NEVER EXPECTED THIS!!!!!! SCREENCAPPED AND ADDED TO THE WIKI!!!!!!!!!!!

SONTARANS PERVERTING THE COURSE OF HUMAN HISTORY

...

I cant wait to prove you wrong Neo. You are my archenemy.

> "Even though I'm 35, I feel like for
> me, my interest sparked with
> Christopher Eccleston and David
> Tennant and Matt Smith and I feel
> kind of a part of that as well.

Why didn't She mentioned Capaldi?

digitalspy.com/tv/doctor-who/news/a835443/doctor-who-jodie-whittaker-christoper-eccleston-sparked-interest/

She mentioned Capaldi tonnes in her recent DWM interview, I wouldn't think anything of it.

...

Why cant the doctor just go alone on adventures and help the people he meets along the road? with a possible exception of having characters like the master as a reoccurring character
I find those episodes to be the most enjoyable

also why do all episodes in the past and present have to have aliens? why cant it just be the doctor having fun in the past?

>Why cant the doctor just go alone on adventures and help the people he meets along the road?
There are loads of stories that do this.

>also why do all episodes in the past and present have to have aliens?
BBC mandate, every episode must have a monster. Extended media still does pure historicals though.

It's ok, the bit about the king of Belgium made me laugh but overall it'd be better with eccleston.

I used to have these when I was like 10

Last 10 minutes of Utopia is a top tier writing. I still dont know if ANYTHING of new Doctor Who tops that. It's insanely tense third act, it really glues you to the screen.

...

What do these two people have in common?

Both like vaginas?

Holy shit, my special edition DVD of the tv movie just arrived. Time for another rewatch - this time with all the commentary! I'll post any good info/quotes from them, naturally.

>no drashigs
1/10

The sheer fucking hype, lads.

bigfinish.com/news/v/coming-soon-the-eighth-doctor-in-the-time-war

It's a great DVD set! The bluray is annoying because it's not a proper transfer of the original film (they rendered the special effects at standard resolution so to actually transfer everything properly they'd have to go back to the masters, and that ain't happening).

Can someone edit out Bliss and put her into a transparent background? So it can be a "DELET THIS" image?

Bith thibk they are male.

I didn't realise at first that there was a special edition version of the DVD, I just thought it was blu-ray only now. I couldn't find anywhere to buy the former, but I eventually managed to grab it pretty cheap and brand new on ebay! There's so many special features with this, it's insane.

kek. lym would probably be able to do it better than I can; when he pops up again, you should ask him

That's surprisingly colourful, but I don't think I like the Tardis.

There'll probably be an image in the next Vortex issue

>3. The Conscript by Matt Fitton

>Cardinal Ollistra has a new tactic to persuade the Doctor to join his people’s fight. With his friends locked away, he has been conscripted alongside fellow Gallifreyans to train for the front lines of battle.

>Commandant Harlan has a reputation – his camp’s regime is harsh. He believes the Time Lords must adapt to win this war, but the Doctor is not easily intimidated.

>Can there be any place for dissent when the Time War looms so close?

>looms so close

>looms

god this is one of the worst big finish covers ever

This sounds like it could be GOAT.

>1. The Starship of Theseus by John Dorney

>The Doctor and his companion, Sheena, land the TARDIS on the glamorous luxury space-liner Theseus just as it’s about to leave the Jupiter space-port. An opportunity for a holiday presents itself – and it’s one they’re very glad to take.

>But when a disturbance catches their attention, they realise sinister events are taking place on board. Passengers are vanishing on every trip. And unless they’re careful they may be next.

>Can the Doctor and Emma solve the mystery? Or is there something else they should be worrying about?

>Sheena
>Emma

Did the name of his companion change, did he pick up a new companion, or is it some sort of clever ship of Theseus twist on his companions changing? Wouldn't be surprised if they end up dying anyway, since Bliss is the main companion for the set.

>Sheena's "gun" is a tripod with a scope on the end

That's our Briggs!

>first audio companion played by a non-white actress
>give her a gun
What does Briggs mean by this?

Yeah, it's just a fucking mess. Tom Webster did some great covers too, but here it looks like he just chucked random stuff in with no regard for colour or composition.

The production/writing team is the same behind Doom Coalition, so I'll expect it will be a competent but unmemorable boxset.

>The production/writing team is the same behind Doom Coalition

I just don't know why they still let Ken Bentley script edit, given how badly the general arc for DC was handled and how bad his War Doctor episode was. Like Briggs, he should stick to directing.

Wait, wait, wait - you're telling me waiting until the 10th story in a 16-story set to actually properly start the main plot was poorly thought out!?!?

>hey have you got any dalek images I can use for the cover of Time War?
>yeah this one (1)

I know, it's as if in "The Trial of a Time Lord" it took us until "Terror of the Vervoids" for us to know that there's a trial on.

kek i still cant fucking believe that happened, what a mess

What went wrong?

You'd think a Time War cover would look a little... grittier.

I don't necessarily hate the newest cover, but it's too colourful for the subject matter and so fucking chaotic. They didn't even TRY to make it look cohesive.

I know it's a cliche by this point, but couldn't they dull or bronze the colors in the cover so it would look more "gritty"? Like how most of the covers in fourth season of the EDAs had a red motif?

I have a brother who I share computer and room with
Why did my mother decide to give birth to tho children
We both hate each other and we both want some free space
Instead we both have to suffer
We don't share any hobbies or whatever to spend time together

I hate this so much
I want my brother to be gone

You should try and get hired by Big Finish to be their cover guy, you could photoshop much better than these.

guys, seasonal depression is setting in

its not the same season for everyone here

What are some GOAT Big Finish covers?

>yee jee tso
did this really happen?

>guest-starring Omega, Giles from Buffy, and Chang Lee
I forgot about the Excelis trilogy. What did /who/ think of it?

Indeed, nearly springtime here!

Yes indeed

Some of the more stylised/drawn ones are good. People tend to like the vinyl ones. When they try and go "SMASH EVERY FACE WE CAN INTO THE COVER!" things don't go well. See pic related.

Technically a quadrilogy

Bit of a weird one but I really love the look of the Lost Stories range.

I like this one a lot.

i know, i'm australian

bruh look at this dude

Looking through the recent main range releases, this is a cute one.

I was asleep when this was posted, but if user's still about, I did this lie of the land rewrite the other week. archive.4plebs.org/tv/search/username/Rewrite/order/asc/

What went wrong?

If you kinda wrote that as a story, or recount type thing, that could have made a cool shit trip.

hire me pls big finish

What exactly are they trying to do with the cover

>tfw the qtest companion is audio-only

Why live?

nothing.

Can't wait for him to be all vague on 15th September saying "Plans changed"

I quite like the vinyl cover for The Light at the End, honestly. Simple, but nice to look at all the same.

what the fuck were they thinking with the original? this looks so much better. nice edit, user. i'm glad you kept the blue in, too. keeps it from being too washed out

I fucking love it.

Nice work

This, as always

That looks much nicer, it's a big improvement

"New Doctors, Classic Monsters" or, as I like to call it, the actual show. To do it as a boxset... Rose, Gridlock, The Bells of Saint John, The Zygon Invasion/Inversion.

This is one of my favourites. Comfy story too.

>that CGI Wirrn
kek

I know we all want the S9 soundtrack for the Heaven Sent tracks, but damn, this variation on Clara's theme is so bouncy and awesome

youtu.be/_MScipnku28

Really hope we get a proper version of it one day

I wonder why they still haven't released S9's soundtrack, especially when some really iconic music from Capaldi's era would be on it. There's definitely demand for it.
