I think normally you do but this whole setup didn't seem like normal electric shock, it seemed like some kind of trap to drag Mr. C back in or possibly kill him. Notice it happens at the same time that Dougie hears Gordon Cole's name on TV and electrocutes himself. Richard's body doesn't seem to burn and then disappears.
