The ultimate power over life and death (immortality) is one of the things they seek.
In order to obtain immortality through the force you must either fill yourself with complete hatred and embrace everything dark side, or you can become a jedi ghost by living life in accordance with the force (serving the force rather than the force serving you)

Meaning, jedi become immortal by living as hippy cucks. Sith have to earn immortality by beeing insanely powerful, most just die.

Most people are lazy fucks in peace times because they lack proper conflict. All this peace leads to the decline we have today. You will ultimately gain serenity because you lack knowledge (ignorance is bliss) but not harmony. You won't get harmony because you lack knowledge on how shit works. This creates conflict, which gives you certain knowledge and you will get serenity... until harmony is broken another time. Endless cycle.
