Sup Forums LEVEL CYBERPUNK

So i was reading a russian cyberpunk novel, the name of which won't tell you anything, because it never got published outside Russia. Basically it's nothing special, all of well-known cyberpunk tropes and etc. But the thing is that the setting is like being created by Sup Forums user. Altough it was written ten years ago. Just check the list of things there is:
>European Islamic Union
95% of Europe are muslim and there is little to none characters of European origin with actual europenian names.
EIU also conducted a number of punitive operations against balkan slavs and basically decimated all of the balcanian christians. Allied with The Great Haliphate (Middle East + North Africa)
Also:
>Bavarian Sultanate
>Landanabad
>Al Paris

USA and the rest of North America are taken over by Black lives matter, fucked up whites South Africa way, created their own religion - Catholic Voodoo, the most popular religion on the globe at the moment and direct competitor to Islam by number of followers. Countries with high nubmer of voodoo cultists are members of Confederacy of Catholic Voodoo States. What is even more epic is that their voodoo-woodoo shit actually work, like their vodoo dolls, hypnosis and shit.

China is now a global superpower competing with Islamic Union. Not much changed. See Islamic Union as fanatic barbarians and Catholic Voodoo as cheap tricks for 12 year-olds.

The world has gone through "Big Oil Hunger" the name is pretty explanatory. "BOH" destroyed previous models of economy and most of the states. During "BOH" there was a shit ton of oil wars across the planet with massive use of chemical and biological weapons. And also a limited use of tactical nukes. That's why you don't want to know whot is happening in Africa, South America and Middle Asia, trust me. The "BOH" was over with a massive use of electric power, power-insentive power batteries and maglev trains. Although electricity-powered cars, planes and helicopters are shit, with small working time.

name?

We are already living in soft cyberpunk Russbro
1) Implats (low tech but still)
2) Devices with instant access to net carried by almost everybody
3) Wars fought in corporate interests
4) Dumb ideologies and movements that make no sense
5) Rise of the surveilance and police states
6) New drugs erryday

We only lack collapse of society due to gang violence, and purple neons.

All this stuff you mentioned in your post is just grim future, future we have to fight against.
But please, for fucks sake, if you have to fight globalists, do not do it in Poland.

What's the name?

Maybe based serbs translated it.

Also why are you Russians so prophetic, does copious amounts of vodka make you see the future?

Enclaves. The central point of the book are Enclaves - biggest cities and financial centers that were bought by corporations from the goverments when states were suffering from oil hunger. Enclaves are free zones, controled by corporations, with no goverment and the onlyauthority is Enclave Security, a global PMC which defends Enclaves from outside threats, represent Enclaves and Corps in the UN and acts like a police in enclave's districts wich pay for it. Now, however states are strong again and whant their clay back.

So where is Russia in all of this?

fantlab.ru/work4349 Nah, it never got even into Poland and Balkans, although the auther is quite popular. On par with a guy who wrote Metro

Mainly like it was post 90'ies. Shit economy. Controls most of the world's oil supply had a couple of wars with China, who tried to get Siberia to them. A little bit more free than North Korea, plays minor role in global politics and nobody gives a fuck about them, and they don't give a fuck about the world.

The author is Vadim Panov right?

Seems there isn't a single book by him that's been translated, the dude needs to step up his marketing.

Also, dreams of all Pansexual genderfluied attack helicopters and furfags has come true, with help of gene transplantation and gene modification. What a horse's dick, lizard head and cow's tail? Just pay the price and you'll got all of this.

Yeah, Panov, probably he is fine with what he has now, since he has a series of novels in all of the genres from fantasy to cyberpunk and steampunk. Which are popular for all of the time. It's like all those american authors who wrote Star Trek and Babylon 5 novels by hundreds, but they rarely got translated, since they are already consumed by enough numbers in their homemarket. That's the fate of a pulp writer, basically.

Yeah but The Enclaves series would sell very well in Western Europe if translated and marketed properly.

Yeah true, but i enjoy reading Russian stuff, because they have a better way of expressing their thoughts, and are way better of explaining how a place looks and feels.

For example Dune, while a great book, the author couldn't convey the look and feel of a place to save his life.
Same with Arthur C Clarke.

They are good at telling a story, but not good at making you feel the story.
Though i guess it has to do with education and parenting. Americans usually can't string to sentences together without sounding like a robot or a broken record.

The West is the territory of Lukyanenko. And nobody does business on the Bosse's territorry without his permission.

True. Strugatsky brothers 4life.

LOL he looks like he's a regular here on Sup Forums.

Clarke simply don't give a shit about people, and basically, he wrote not about them. And the Dune... Well, it's hard to bother making deep characters when you try to put in one books a shit ton of philosophical, ecological, religious etc. ideas.

He's a regular on the Internet forums since like it became available in Russia, of course he will look like this. And check out his Live Journal, he really is 40+ y.o. user just without memes.

And my point of view is that Strugatsky ruined russian sci-fi. Despite how good they are.

I'm not talking about characters im just talking about the setting the background the building/planet/cave where the story is set.

>teleports behind you
>unsheathes 1000 page book
>Nothing personnel kid
>Smacks you over the head.

Holy shit, LiveJournal is still a thing? I used to have one. Damn that was years ago.

Why would you say that?

Yeah, and still quite popular among late 30s and plus audience.

>Moscostan

>Cyberpunk Russian Shadowrunners removing Soy-Kebab after the death of the Neo-West.

This setting sounds pretty fucking badass.

I can't wait for it to be real.

Because sci-fi is science fiction when there is actual sciense, and the further you go, less and less science there is. Of course, whenyou don;t look deep into their works you will get entertainment for everyone's taste - Dieselpunk and postapocalipse in "Prisoners of Power/ Inhabited Island" with epic, giant nuclear tanks, or fantasy with funny jokes in "Hard to be a god", but nobody wants to do this, because it's not cool, and so by the power of elitism people start to dig their works, look for satire on soviet society, or deep philosophical questions and shit. And brothers were increasing the number of that shit, the more popular they got. Someone, once called it "social Sci-fi", and it damn is, with little to none science to it. Basically an average Strugatsky novel is about people flying in spaceship and moaning is it ethical to change people's lifes by having ultimate, god-like power. They took out science from fiction and others started to copy them. Even Lukyanenko has the same introverted shit of deep thinking and filosophy. "What will happen when ypu give a slave a magic lamp, that will make all his wishes real?" That's what became mainstream in Russian Sci-fi, and that's what killed them, because with that attittude and ideas, and open despise to technologies and those who make them, you can't make niether epic space operas like Clarke, nor robots like Asimov had. That's what my point, briefly is.

Moscow is the biggest Enclave of Europe and has little to none russians in it, althogh there are chinese, arab, japanese and nigger districts. The book is basically how the cunning jew, who controls Moscow saves the day because "Moscow is my city, and i don't give a shit about anything else, and if the world will go to shit, my city will also go to shit, and thus, I won't anybody to suck up with my city, or the world in a global scale."

And by every book, the amount of magic and voodoo shit increases. Because the other idea of te series, is that the civilization lives, when it keeps loyal to it, and thus live the gods of this civilization, help and protect it. The West rejected christianity and it's identity and got fucked up by others. And basically the god in a western sense of the word - died. In the first book also, during the joint chinese-russian expedition to the Moon, some kind of a magician or a god, who mocked a russian cosmanaut kills the chinese God - Moon Rabbit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_rabbit and thus the chinese are now even more angry as they feel vulnerable in the face of arabs god and powerful Catholic Voodoo shit.

>Americans usually can't string to sentences together

Metasreumonical bump

The other minor, but powerful factions (or traditions, as they are called in the book) are "Mutabor" - for public, a megacorp wich produces best medical supplies, specialise in genemodification of humans and animals. But in reality they are "Church of the true evolution" basically they are like shapers from schismatrix, but with relifious vibe, and have some sort of THE GREAT PROPHESY, they despise cybernetic augmentations and barely look human.

The second are "Neikinsts", essencially classical cyberpunk hackers with deckas and usb drives in their heads. But they have also a some sort of cult of the Digit as the ultimate source of power in this world. "Neikinism" is called after Emmanuel Maria Neik, and her book "The numbers of righteousness"

These two new "traditions" alongside Catholic Vodoo collide with "old" traditions - Arabian and Chinese. And the question is, will be the old traditions be replaced with new ones?

sounds cool

In this world only in British Isles Europeans people are allowed to drink beer, how's cool is that?

>Pansexual genderfluied attack helicopters
this is muh fetish

>Enclaves - biggest cities and financial centers that were bought by corporations from the goverments when states were suffering from oil hunger. Enclaves are free zones, controled by corporations, with no goverment and the onlyauthority is Enclave Security
sounds like gibsons zaibatsus

err, dunno

what happens to us in the book?

it sounds a bit like one I read recently, caliphate, or european caliphate, something like that

This is everybodie's fetish

Right it the OP:
>Landanabad
British Emirates

Also, Edinburgh is an Enclave with corporate gothic-like skyscreapers

>Also, Edinburgh is an Enclave with corporate gothic-like skyscreapers

Now that's too much of a fantasy. There is a law in Edinburgh that prohibits building anything taller than six floors I guess.

It's not going to be around for much longer once Scotland secedes to join the European Caliphate.

Why should this law be active, when the city is bought from the governmet? However, the soil there it mostly volcanic rocks and digging it for skyscreaper foundation will be an absolute pain in the ass. Plus it's Glasgow, wich is economic center of Scotland and so, more likely to be interesting for megacorps. If i remember correctly.

Hey, Singapore is the only Enclave in Asia which is not controlled by the chinese. Good for you.
