Death Note author praises Netflix adaptation

>‘It was more interesting than I had imagined. This Death Note is a Hollywood production that was produced with high quality up to the tiniest detail. Personally, I am most intrigued by the end. A continuation? Will they make one? I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh] This movie keeps to the original but had some changes made in the best way possible, so everybody will be able to enjoy it.’

Admit it Sup Forums, it was kino.

Nah, japos are retarded.
Nigga is just happy he got even more money years after Death Note ended, the money Obata and the other fuck made with Death Note must be insane.

>Death Note author
Stopped reading right there, why should I care what the author (who isn't even the author of the piece of work in question) thinks

This is the same author who thought "Backyard Bottomslash" was a believable name for an American character.

>Death Note Netflix director Adam Wingard recently let it be known how a Death Note sequel could happen:

>"At the end of the day, there are a lot of places to explore where to take Light. And ultimately the series is sort of about almost his downfall as a character. This is sort of the beginning of it or the origin of it. There are definitely lots of places to go, and we know generally where we would take it. Hopefully people will watch it and Netflix will order a sequel. They definitely are ready to. They just need people to watch it."

So this basically confirms that L did not write his name in the book.

>I don’t mind getting more money!

Are there any Japanese openly voicing dissatisfaction with how the west adapted their work, I'm curious.

>I don’t mind getting more money!
Sums up his review quite well.

False praise. Only women (Dr. Seuss' widow) and Stephen King are outspoken about stuff like this.

VERY INTERESTING MOVIE
THANKS AMERICAN
MAKE SEQUEL PREASE
I GET A ROT OF MONEY
MAKE ANOTHER FIRM PREASE AMERICAN PIG DISGUSTING

Sequel is going to be just as based, bros.

I watch the meeting scene. They made Light a little faggot. He was screaming and running like a little bitch, wow , that was embarrassing

>I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh]

I found it to be hilarious

>I don’t mind getting more money!
>[Raugh]

>I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh]
>it's GUD I SWEAR LMAO
jeez japs

>Stephen King
you mean the utter cuck who praised DARK TOWER as well as UNDER THE DOME and MR MERCEDES?

He seems to hate The Shining with a passion

Only because its better than his book

one of the few good films made from his airport paperback rack garbage fiction

Why does everyone hate it? I thought it was great.

It was kino. The people bashing it simply didn't understand it. It's the Batman v Superman of 2017, a misunderstood masterpiece.

I really liked it too. All things considered, its probably the best Hollywood adaptation after Edge of Tomorrow

People fear what they don't understand.

>I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh]

Ah, the jewish author expresses his concerns for the integrity of the story.

it was actually an ok film. yes it's different from the anime. and thank fucking god for that.

yeah. I really liked the style. when light meets ryuk, there's a bunch of swirling colored paper. the ferris wheel looked amazing. the chase scene. it was very cartoony. are they on par with eating a potato chip, or the cartoon light's confession? no, but DN2017 attempted to do it's own thing.

my criticism is the story was plain and the logic wasn't really there. so, I did have to turn my brain off

the ending was better than the ending to the anime.

They probably used the same ending as the japanese live film which made much more sense than the anime. I assume the anime should have ended at season 01 but they milked it dry. the second season was total shit and ending was stupid.

>no source
lol

Of course he didn't. That's why Ryuk says humans are interesting, he wouldn't have said it if L wrote the name since that would be the obvious thing to do for any person.

friendly reminder that toriyama praised dragon ball evolution too. he liked it so much that after royalties ended he made 2 movies and new series to forget about this shit

Why should I care what you (who fell for the le Death of le author meme) thinks

I think L looks at the picture of Mia and Light, and thinks Mia did it. Light told L that Mia had it in her calc book, making it look like Light was protecting Mia.

>yes it's different from the anime. and thank fucking god for that.
Still too similar though with the characters having the same names and playing the same parts.

Watched with a friend today. We had a laugh at some of the silly changes they made but I'd be lying if I didn't say it was super fun to watch. It was good they made it more original instead of just an adaption desu. Some of the changes they made were alright.

Who killed all the agents? It couldn't have been the girl since Light was still the owner of the death note, and if it was Ryuk then why need Light in the first place.

>I don’t mind getting more money!
At least he's honest about why he liked it

>Light a little faggot. He was screaming and running like a little bitch
Just like he did in both the manga and anime when he got cornered? Face it, Light always turns into a whiny pussy when he realizes he's not in control of the situation anymore

Let's be honest, if you saw some snakes in the same room you'd start shitting yourself, much less the devil looking motherfucker.

they showed that it was mia. she stunned one of them, looked for his ID, then wrote his name with something like "he writes the agents looking for kira and then dies himself" in a page she took from the death note.

It was the girl. You don't need to be the owner to be able to use the Death Note

Kubrik was smart to not involve him in the movie.

The cinematography was great, but how shitty the writing was must have been lost in translation

Yes, anybody seeing a demon would be terrified but he acted that scene like a girl, going full hysterical. a man would go livid and silent. Screaming is a female thing.

>The cinematography was great,
When will this meme end? The cinematography was fine, but it wasn't anything exceptional.

I'm jealous of fags like this and the lardass from game of thrones, you know they swimming in money right now and no longer give a fuck about life at this point.

I wish I could do something like that, I would be fucking whores 24/7.

>stupid jap gets an ego boost out of seeing m-muh prestigious american hollywood!!!! even though its a cheapo production for netflix adapting his work

the problem is this Light is NEVER in control of ANY situation, he literally tells anyone who asks him about the Death Note (Mia, L, his dad), he doesnt even make an attempt

He has to say that and japs are nice people.

I guess when compared to the trash can plot, the visuals become prettier.

How many other films frame shots and use transitions like this film did?

>Personally, I am most intrigued by the end. A continuation? Will they make one? I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh]

Honestly the Death Note authors are hacks. They're a lot like Akira Toriyama, they seem so retarded I believe the only way they could have succeeded is entirely through luck.

So when will the porn parody Sex Note come out?

It's not about what some user would do, it's about what Light would do.

We know in the original Light wouldn't act like that.

...

>I AM GAY
>YAGMAI

I think that may have been a different writer.

iirc the BB spinoff novel was written by the guy who wrote all the Bakemonogatari books, which would explain a lot.

>I'm a gay

Godzilla 98

Toho both allowed those changes to be made and voiced satisfaction upon initial release. It was until the backlash that Toho began distancing itself from the film.

yagami is a mary sue

>this guy

this, except for like three manga writers the rest make basically slave wages and take payoffs where they can get them

feel free to refute me

If he's a mary sue, how come he keeps fucking up from episode 2 onward?

I always wanted to know how rich successful manga writers can get. For example, is Akira Toriyama filthy rich?

>1st half
hmm, this is somewhat interesting. rocky start, but I'm willing to see how this plays out.
>2nd half after the meeting with L
nope

it's painful how quickly this movie went downhill.

The Light from the movie is more like the helpless protagonist of a thriller movie, trapped by circumstances and threatening more clever and powerful antagonists.
The true villain is Ryuk. It's not the cat and mouse game between two perfect humans best at everything like in the original, even the movie L lost it and was even discredited in the end.

The richest is that Detective Conan guy.

>watching a sequel without qt Mia in it

people overstate the 'cat and mouse game'.

it's hardly a game when the rules keep changing. in fact i would say that death note turns absolutely terrible once the shinigami eyes and amnesia shit start getting introduced.

>and then light joins the police task force......
so much for 'smart anime'

I actually liked negro L.

The actor played the part well and was believable. I also enjoyed that he wasn't perfect like the anime one

Mia is Kira in the movie. How did the police never suspect her?

>The true villain is Ryuk
I keep reading this but I'm not sure why everyone keeps repeating it. Ryuk didn't do shit. Encouraging Light to do things doesn't make him the villain, he told Light more than once to just give the book away if he wasn't comfortable using it.

Light was his own man, not controlled by anyone. And the FIB shit was all Mia's doing, with absolutely no encouragement from anyone. Ryuk didn't do shit. If he's a villain, then so are the thousands of anons on Sup Forums that tell other anons to kys.

It was only L suspecting anyone and Light is his main suspect due to his access and his cop dad not being killed makes him sure. He had tunnel vision and never thought of accomplices, and totally forgot Watari was vulnerable.

Came here to say this. Rewatching the anime now and the way Light reacts to Ryuk is one of the first scenes where we see Light acting differently than your average kid. Having him scream and freak out was relatable but for me, Light isn't supposed to be relatable. He's like top .001%, we all love self inserting as Light but he is not like us and this scene does a great job showing it

> I've been waiting for you

>totally forgot Watari was vulnerable
This was a major lapse in logic. Besides needing a name and a face, he had absolutely no idea how Kira was killing his victims. Even the name/face thing wasn't exactly confirmed. Yet he allows his Watari to walk around sporting his face and real name and reveals his own face to Light before finding any incriminating evidence.

> mom I thought this was a cartoon for kids why is it so confusing!!! :(

when i rewatched the anime all i could think about were the terrible exposition

THOUGHT IT WOULDNT MATTER

This song is fucking awesome and it's use was perfect

>I don't mind getting more money

Then write a sequel my mane instead of shitty spinoff chapters

I liked the L actor and the Ryuk design, and the cinematography was fairly decent.

However the writing was absolute dogshit, and so was the directing. I mean seriously what the fuck was the song and slow motion shot during the faris wheel? Also MIA IS NOW A SOCIOPATH AND WANTS TO KILL EVERYONE with absolutely no character development whatsoever, and Light is given no reason whatsoever to develop into killing people; there's no contemplation of it or anything outside of a brief passing mention of a dead mom.

I don't watch anime, so I have nothing to compare this to

What are some of the many mistakes Turner made?
>carried death note with him filled with incriminating evidence
>told a literal who about it when he first discovered it
>told anyone about it, period
>using the name Kira
>having watari call his personal mobile phone
>sperging out when L confronted him at starbucks
>not killing his dad
>being an overall dumbass

>>and then light joins the police task force......
>so much for 'smart anime'
Didn't Light do that to prove his innocence and L wanted him around in hopes he would slip up?

>Also MIA IS NOW A SOCIOPATH AND WANTS TO KILL EVERYONE with absolutely no character development whatsoever
She seems unstable from the start.

At least he's honest about it. You'd never see JJ brazenly say that it's all about the dollars. He has to be a diversity cuck every time he opens his mouth.

DN author is based; DN was always for stupid weebs. It has no integrity and neither does the movie.

I could swear part of Light's ultimate goal was to lead over the police.

It was obviously a burner phone you mong

>normal people who just see it as a movie like it
>japs who rive and breathe for Death Note rike it
Sup Forums yet again gets blown the fuck out. At this point I bet you retards don't even think for yourselves. You just blindly suck the dick of Rotten Tomatoes.

Why did you expect anything less than a bunch of convenient deus ex machinas and people generally acting retarded at key moments? It's a 2-hour movie, they need to keep that shit moving.

Came here to post this.

>It's a 2-hour movie
It's actually 20 minutes shorter than that. Anyway, I don't understand why they made it so short. They should've been AT LEAST 135 minutes long. You can't shove so much plot into 100 minutes.

They should have done a miniseries instead. Netflix can release however much content they want, there was no reason to cram an entire series into one movie.

kek shitposter btfo

Yeah, I don't get why they didn't do a miniseries. Death Note has far too many important characters and plot twists to be made into a 100 minute film.

yes shill, only Sup Forums dislikes this movie

...

>I don’t mind getting more money! [laugh]

unfair score. i've seen far worse films that received at least a 6.5.

it felt like a straight to DVD watch, but a 4.7 is too low. the movie is watchable, just not some kino flick you'd recommend to friends.
