The real question, especially in the opening phases of the conflict, is the location aren't units. Since those go to their respective faction, they may be strongly weighted one way or the other.
I don't know whether that'd make a difference in the UK; in the States there's many more bases in conservative areas.

A shitload of our nuclear arsenal and maintenance is in Scotland (Cucktopia) but a decent number of RAF bases and heavy artillery is in Yorkshire, so could be taken back by force and bring submarine fitting down to Liverpool. At least it'd give the scousers a reason to live.

Some would. But the top brass are also highly pro monarchy. Most of the top brass swore to queen and country. The majority of the armed forces still do. No doubt there would be a few tear aways. (I certainly know some scots who would've) but the vast majority would view the crown as the correct and stabilising choice.
