Thing is, it's really expensive to build new old looking buildings with ornaments and things like this. Especially in countries where they are in desperate need of new apartments, like Sweden and Germany it's important to have living space first, not how it looks on the outside. So I can't be angry at them.
newly built part of the city here
ornamentation on homes is excessive, but surely you can design the building to not be literally autistic? Your comment made me look up some newbuilts so I wasn't talking out of my ass, and it's not a very inspiring sight. There are ornaments like statues of fat baby angels, and there are ornaments like window frames or the materials themselves, the latter are needed if you don't want to breed a nation of subconscious arsonists.
I know what you mean. I totally support this. But here the situation is like this:
>newly built appartment
>looks fine and dandy
>2000€/month
So you go into an old building or in an ugly one. It's a really shitty phase of our society where efficiency is everything.
This is just international style, it's pretty good.
but yes, they could've used some decent materials there instead. Here they use mostly white buildings. Even though it's quite neutral, it looks at least some sort of high-class. (pic related)
Which part of Frankfurt is that ? And it's a render so probably far from reality.
new super expensive style isn't good though
sure it's better than pic related, but it still strikes me as graceless and robotic
part of it probably has with surrounding city planning to do too
It's the Europaviertel. It looks really triste when you actually walk through.
in what manner or form is international style good? Explain desu
I wouldn't say it's an international style. It's just so reduced that it has no style anymore at all. Like a block without character.
Oh yeah now I remember about this project
It looks very elegant but commieblocky at the same time
And it needs as much greenery / shops as possible to stay human
1. Flag
2. Yes, it's terrible
Good old times, when buildings looked like this. Just kill me!
International style is about showing material and process with no artificial stuff
I can already predict, that this """style""" will stay until eternity of human kind, because it just exists out of pure efficiency, not because somebody said "this looks cool"
>no artificial
>material and process
???
Like fake chimneys bricks paneling or ornaments
It shows the modern skeletal construction for what it is skeleton of steel with concrete and glass
1) Canada.
2) Pretty much, only Toronto and Vancouver have interesting architecture and even then they're inferior to cities in other countries.
3) If we're going for modern architecture, we should embrace it and be imaginative with it. We mostly just have boring cement and glass rectangles right now.
Because its like kind of pure, no cultural bs. A lot like how computer mainframe look like (nongaming ones)
"no culture" is not enticing words when linked with architecture in my mind
Well they belived it was fake
Very Nietzschean
Yes and you will end up with a totally bland society reduced to the most simple mathematical shapes. No, mediteranean style, no middle eastern style, no european style, because international style is cheaper and will be favored in the end. But it's not really what you want to end up with.
it used to be cool but then the 1960s happened and everything got torn down and replaced
Still, not as popular as you think, people don't live in those, they need something to assure them
to be honest I don't really like this northern 19th century style
it looks too dirty and barren, and it doesn't carry the old-growth historicity of even older architecture
it's like, three stars out of five
It's definitely no 10/10 but it's the new world and we gotta work with what we got. It's far better than the grey souless boxy office buildings that replaced it.
But it looks nice desu. I couldn't imagine they would build something like this here actually.
pretty sure berlin used to look like that before DO IT AGAIN BOMBER HARRIS
Yes, but nowadays they wouldn't dare to invest shit to build a huge fountain
yeah, america is honestly pretty architecturally poor
you guys should innovate some more to get richer architecture but it probably goes counter to your capitalism
Do any actual fountains get built anymore? Obviously a monument like that is absoluten verboten, but I mean just the water. Probably, I don't have my finger very close to the pulse of fountain construction.
