An adult man with no people to care for, or people who care about him, is bad, is what he means I think.
I think it's becoming more of the norm though, especially in an age where the middle class is slowly disappearing, having a family is unsustainable, more entertainment than ever makes you want less responsibity, and laws that discriminate men by default make one not want to get involved with a woman at all, let alone have children with them.
