This retarded piece of shit is a runaway success. How does it feel to be on the wrong side of history?
You tell us since you post on this board as well
I mean unless you're admitting you're not a Sup Forums poster, but a tourist or shill :^)
I'm on the right side of history: the side that knew it would make a lot of money while being a piece of crap
HOW did It do it?
I thought most people hated the mini-series so much that they wouldn't even give this movie a chance
>I thought most people hated the mini-series so much
kill yourself retard
>In addition to its domestic grosses, the horror hit is expected to pull in $62 million from 46 markets overseas, giving “It” a $179 million global debut. That’s a huge win for a movie with an estimated $35 million production budget.
Great movies make great money. Happens every time it's tried.
Heh. Well it's going to flop in China so no of those records matter. We win again.
>It abducts Georgie and the Asian bully immediately
>It plays with Eddie despite knowing there are other people are in the house
>It plays with Stan and nibbles on his face despite knowing other people are close
>Billy follows Georgie by himself despite explicitly telling everyone not to leave the group while in the house
Those annoyed me
If it means more horror movies and less capeshit, I'm all for it. Maybe in 15 years we'll be moaning about lame horrorshit.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
>expected
>estimated
they don't know anything
It will most likely make 2-10 millions from the overseas markets
By the end of its run, It will have made a grand total of 170-180 millions
since it's got a budget of 35 millions, then it needs 350 millions to start making profit, which means it'll flop hard
>Complaining that a good movie is a huge success
What, you want that money to go towards more Capeshit?
>>Billy follows Georgie by himself despite explicitly telling everyone not to leave the group while in the house
This was so fucking annoying, but I was alright with the film other than that.
Perfect timing really;
>Released as kids go back to school so children are on everyone's mind
>Released long enough after the first miniseries to be incredibly nostalgic for 25-35 year olds
>Coming off a summer filled with duds and lackluster blockbusters, audiences were hungry for something big, hyped and not too generic
Great, one shit genre for another
boxofficemojo.com
We've reached peak delusion levels here
We're already moaning about lame horrorshit and have been for decades, it's a genre more saturated with shitty movies than any other
Not a great movie, but it's better than supermen movies.
I'll allow it.
How can they make Chapter 2 not suck?
io9.gizmodo.com
They're already turning on King
Well OP?
It will suck. The kid actors carried ch 1
the alt-right side of history maybe
What the fuck math even is this? A movie usually needs double the budget, not ten times. Why the fuck would a movie studio, let alone anyone, invest in a project that needs ten times what you put in before you pull a profit?
>Movies need 10x their production budget to profit
What fucking planet do you live on? Conventional wisdom says 2x production budget
> "...it’s fascinating to me that there has been so much comment about that single sex scene and so little about the multiple child murders. That must mean something, but I’m not sure what."
He has a point.
>since it's got a budget of 35 millions, then it needs 350 millions to start making profit, which means it'll flop hard
Wat?
This. Plus, the adult sections of the book were always the weaker side.
>Billy follows Georgie by himself
Annoyed me even more that he does this as the group is tending to the injured loser who wandered off by himself.
Leftist propaganda made by a notorious Trump hating nobody who apparently write books no one reads but uses his political viewings as leverage to advertise himself amongst reddit cuckerinos.
When did this "Movie spends unfathomable budget on marketing to break even" shit come from? I'm wanting to say DC movies.
Then why did he let the Distributor who has the closest ties to Trump distribute it?
>Actually responding to obvious bait
Fuck off Sup Forums. Utterly pathetic
>have sex with Bev to unite them
I thought the main reason Bev offers herself up is that everybody needs to become an adult to escape the sewers or some shit. I don't remember it being this celebratory sex train that the author is implying.
Or Patrick Hockstetter strangling his baby brother
you be the judge
I'm worried about this too. What made this movie a little refreshing was that it was an all-kid main cast in a fucked up scenario with South Park-tier adult language. Adults doing this shit will just be your run-of-the-mill R-rated horror film. They have a high bar to make the second one even more fucked up.
They have to become adults in order to escape and Bev instinctively knows that is the only way.
The Turtle told her fuck them all basically.
When you push down people's throats weeks of pure, hot and bubbling scat sauce, offering a simple piss on the face will surely start a line.
What else would people go see?
Wasn't great, got a few chuckles out of me, some In Intended "Scary scenes" Pennywise looked like a PS2 Character in the CGI Shots.
Drumpfkinds BTFO by based Stephen King!
Think of it this way, their group came together for a reason, this is pretty strongly hinted at in the books that they're all being moved along by a 'Force' which opposes IT. King likes to use abstract bullshit like that all the time.
Either way, with the supposed 'defeat' of IT at the end of the first half, they lose their common goal and the reason for coming together and so they lose that guiding 'Force'. If you've read the Dark Tower books just think of it as their ka-tet breaking. Bev is also the most 'adult' of the group, outside of maybe Bill those he's autistic ally focused on revenge so maybe not. In effect she initiates the rest of the boys to her level and in doing so gives them all something in common once more, something only they share which allows the 'Group' to once more be established and they once again become something greater than the sum of it's parts.
Still has yet to turn a profit.
Alright, exactly. But this journalism:
>it affirms gendered stereotypes whereby female sexuality exists solely to serve and affirm men (in the book, Bev has sex with the boys to “unite” them after their first battle with Pennywise as children)
Is totally disingenuous and misleads anyone who hasn't read the book.
That's bigger than even some capeshit movies.
It must have looked like an easy choice for the contrarian police here to be picking on, just a edgier looking clown flick based on a book from that lubral Stephen King, right after the Dark Tower bombed. What could go wrong?
Muschietti confirmed for drafted into the DCEU like Wan. What properties should he be given?
>The tripfag hasn't killed himself yet
It has made $178 million in 3 days on a $35 million budget, $117 million of that is domestic. That's over 5 times its production budget
That is repulsive, just another generic fake news journalist trying to virtue signal and earn attention by latching onto something popular and spouting the same tired buzz words SJW's have been using for the last five years.
Budget was $75 million, posted was only $35 million
I'm sure it won't matter even middle term, but source on figure?
...
So it made the full budget and enough for advertising, plus more.
Just google Stephen Kings It and people are already jumping on the bandwagon for clicks. Its disingenuous that they waited this long to have a problem about that scene.
Has to make three times its budget to turn a profit.
Plus, you have to factor in that everyone who wanted to see it already has, so there's no much room for more ticket sales.
This is as much as it's going to make.
That's not correct. Now that most people are leaving the theatre with general praise, it'll sway others who had no interest to give it a shot. And a select few others who have seen it will bring friends or family to see it again next weekend.
>Worldwide: $179,150,000
Hahaha oh wow. In before fake news.
Yeah it's not like this is grossing more than Conjuring universe flicks from the same studio, which are collectively more than a billion now due to growing brand confidence with audiences.
See you next week.
I genuinely cannot fucking believe someone can be this delusional.
>Biggest horror and September debut of all time
>Opening numbers beat capeshit that came out this same year
>Made over 5 times its production budget back in 3 days
Okay, I need to know, give me a number, an exact amount of money this movie needs to make for you to consider it a success
I didn't even know about a mini-series nor do I care now.
With the runaway success of Deadpool, Logan, and It, will we finally see the return of the R rated blockbuster?
Why is Sup Forums so fucking stupid?
Awesome. Maybe we should all see it again for more lulz and butthurt for the haters. Drinking the sweet nectar of their tears as IT makes more money than Avatar.
>With a monster, $117 million opening weekend Warner Bros. and New Line's It has delivered a record-breaking opening, breathing a little life back into the slumping domestic box office. The film has claimed the largest September opening, largest Fall opening, the largest opening for an R-rated horror film, not to mention the largest opening weekend for a horror film of any MPAA rating, and tops Open Road's new release Home Again in second place by nearly $110 million. Overall, the film accounted for more than 75% of the combined gross for the weekend's top twelve, and we've only just begun.
>With an estimated $117 million, WB and New Line's It, an adaptation of the acclaimed Stephen King novel, claimed the weekend's #1 spot with ease, besting Open Road's new release of Home Again in second place by nearly $110 million, the fifth largest gap between first and second place all-time. The film also dusted the previous opening weekend record for an R-rated horror film, more than doubling Paranormal Activity 3's previous record of $52.5 million. In fact, It is already the fifth highest grossing R-rated horror film all-time after just three days in release.
>The horror film's debut was the widest opening ever for an R-rated film and as such delivered the second largest opening for an R-rated movie behind Deadpool's $132.4 million opening last February. Additionally, the previous opening weekend record for September was held by Hotel Transylvania 2 with $48.5 million and the previous Fall opening weekend record was Gravity's $55.7 million, neither of which stood a chance against It and combined don't even come within $10 million.
>It should be mentioned that rival estimates put It's opening over $120 million and some closer to $125 million. One obvious reason for the disparity has to do with Hurricane Irma hitting Florida this weekend where ~175 theaters are closed. The state typically represents 5.5-6.5% of the domestic gross each weekend.
knowing nothing about this movie except the figures
this.
>Has to make three times its budget to turn a profit.
That's for a movie with a relatively large marketing campaign. A movie like this doubling its budget is more realistic for a break even point.
I'd say roughly $300 million, which it won't.
Internationally, It brought in an estimated $62 million from 46 markets for a $179 million global debut. The overseas numbers include the largest opening weekend for a horror film in the U.K. ($12.3m), Russia ($6.7m), Australia ($5.9m), Brazil ($5.6m), Netherlands ($1.4m) and Poland ($1.15m).
that's quadrupling the budget you posted
>butte
Shitposting at its finest
reminder It was going to flop due to people cheating theater lines to not pay for a ticket
What a narrow view point. It's all uninspired rehashed unoriginal crap. Movies have gone full business and the people with the easiest money are being exploited. There's no more room for a movie being made simple because talent is behind it.
...
Threadly reminder that a bunch of autismus spent hours making fun of this movie for months. They invested a sizeable portion of their free time in circlejerking about how badly it was going to flop. I want to believe a few of them killed themselves after the Wonder Woman fiasco, and some of them will do the same now
Damn, I need to follow Sup Forums some more so I can laugh at these guys.
Princess Diana and Pennywise proving that strong women can survive Sup Forums shitposting.
...
>Roughly 300 million, which it won't
So you're saying, you are honestly fucking telling me that a movie that has made $180 million in 3 days with minimal foreign markets won't make another $120 million in its entire run. Also, you literally said earlier it needs to make 3 times its budget, so according to you that'd be $225 million. So by your own fucking numbers it needs to make $45 million, which IT WILL make that in the next week, to make a profit.
It wasn't that people hated the miniseries, its that people who grew up with it have fond memories as a child watching IT. As adults, we can recognize its flaws.
Don't forget Spider-Man. Just became the second highest grossing Spider-Man flick and passed Wonder Woman kek
You're either trying to argue sense into a troll or a retard. Pick your battles.
>As adults, we can recognize its flaws.
Why does it seem like people aren't allowed to recognize flaws with the new movie?
I'm happy it's successful regardless of whether or not it's good since it's another R-rated movie that turned out to be well critically and financially, and that means they're going to be making more of them.
How did the movie handled the brutal orgy with ass to mouth scenes?
>Muschietti confirmed for drafted into the DCEU like Wan. What properties should he be given?
He will definitely get Justice League Dark. Or at least a John Constantine movie.
I would say that their is a general consensus of the flaws, and they are many, of the original miniseries.
The new film IT however does not have as many flaws that most people would agree upon. In fact, that may be what makes it a great film, the fact that people often vary in what they liked or didn't like in the new film.
>studio releases a genuinely good horror movie
>being shocked that people go to see it and it gets a good word of mouth
Good, hopefully the success of IT makes studios actually put out decent horror movies.
Maybe we'll get a good Nightmare on Elm St reboot that erases that garbage Platinum Dunes remake.
With the help of RDJ, a record holding marketing budget, and with years of MCU films. Wonder Woman didn't need a Batman cameo to carry her.
>muh RDJ
Contemptuous faggot, will you never quit scrambling for excuses?
Did anyone on Sup Forums actually watch the movie?
What did you think of Georgie getting his arm bit off?
There have been quite a few really good horror films in the last 5 years or so. I genuinely enjoyed IT, but it is not a strict horror film like most films are. It is really reminiscent of the 80's films, where comedy mixed with horror was common.
I know there have been good horror movies released, it's just been common that big studios like WB and Paramount always put out terrible ones.
Good horror usually comes from independent studios like A24.
Not really all that successful considering Disney has to share with Sony, in which Sony will make more box office bombs about Dabbing, or whatever trend that comes around. Maybe CISbusters will get that sequel it so deserved.
I really enjoyed the movie but can people who have read the book say if it's worth trying to get into it?
I was fully expecting the movie to cut to black or something.
When they showed Georgie, not only getting his arm bit off, but also crawling in the ground while bleeding to death, I had a pretty damn big smile on my face.
I'm happy that another R rated film is succesful. End of PG13 nightmare soon?
Not as gruesome as I expected from what people were saying
>people who have read the book say if it's worth trying to get into it?
Yes.
The movie doesnt touch half of how fucked up the book is.
The book is better, it actually goes into the mind and thoughts of IT. You can see that IT is actually scared and petty enough to genuinely hate the kids in the end fight. IT has a gigantic fucking ego and never once considered anything could hurt it. Experiencing fear for IT was something new despite being billions of years old.
Agreed. That scene where Henry kills his dad after seeing the children sing on tv seemed straight out of a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, it was pretty well done
And I know the scene where Bev's sink is turned into a blood fountain is in the book originally but I feel like the way it was portrayed in the movie felt like a homage to Johnny Depp's character's famous death sequence from the original ANoES. I don't know if it was intentional though. Either way, it also felt like a cool callback
>I don't know if it was intentional though.
Considering the theater in the movie is showing Nightmare on Elm Street 5 and has a poster for the film outside, I imagine it may be a little intentional. Remember IT was a New Line film.
So let me get this straight:
Bev seemingly murders her dad.
Mike seemingly murders Bowers.
But no one in town actually cares? I'm guessing Bev moved out of town because of his dad's death, but what did her family say about that? Also, Bill could've called an ambulance, just in case.
