Absolutely wrong though, RCC never taught that popes cannot deviate. Go look at the definition of infallibility and what it means. A pope can fall into heresy and if he does he is no longer the pope because heresy incurs an automatic excommunication. A person who is excommunicated cannot be the leader of that which he isn't even a member of.

If he's trying to work on reuniting the church on reformation day, this is good. If he's joining for literally any other reason then this is fucking horrid.
The catholic church is gone, it has been taken over by the marxist establishment, there is no catholic church right now.
The event's been a planned since before Francis. The point is to move forward in some reconciliation with Lutherans, and that involves engaging the largest Lutheran organization, the LWF. Female ordination and gay marriage are still considered new obstacles that these liberal churches have created to unity, but the only point is to not throw away the entire decades of effort.
The conservative churches in ILC just recently (within the last couple years) began a dialogue with the Catholic Church. That dialogue was opened with the public understanding that it might go a bit better than the RC-LWF dialogue since the ILC doesn't ordain women or marry gays, but the larger stumbling block there is that ILC doctrine explicitly holds the Pope to be the Antichrist. They're also further removed from the belief in the apostolic succession the Orthodox and Catholics share.
