You can wear the same shoes every day. Compare paying $170 for pic related to paying $40 for a pair of khakis that you'll wear once or twice a month. The value is obvious when compared to buying name brand clothes.

Also, it's a status symbol. People know how much your shoes cost, and that you invested that money in your image. It's attractive to the bitches, and isn't that all that matters?

Looks good, feel good. Comfortable enough to wear all day. Only problem is that they're a no-go with shorts. I could never wear Jordans really. For one, I have yet to find a pair that I think actually look good, and secondly I would be constantly afraid of damaging them and screwing myself out of an "investment". Even with a $250 pair of boots I don't really have to worry about them getting scuffed up and ruined. I have one pair of white AF1s that I never wear because I'm too autistic about them getting dirty.

It's not about shoes, but that reminded me of a conversation I overheard one morning.

Two girls walk up, talking to each other about how they haven't heard from some third girl in like a month.
As the conversation continues, I discover that girl #1 paid girl #3 1000 DKK (about 150 USD) for a scarf, and the second girl says to the first girl that she should demand her money back.
Girl #1 defends her purchase, saying that she's reluctant to because "it was such a good deal", and that "usually it costs 2500" (375 USD).
Girl #1 then says to girl #2 that she'll talk to girl #3 but won't cancel the deal since she's short on money.

I was amused at the way she defended spending 1000 kroner on a damn scarf if she needs money, just because it's not AS ridiculously expensive as getting the scarf elsewhere.

I'll agree with house to some extent but not a car. I'll keep going with flat out buying used cars and keeping my insurance premiums very low. A car is more often than not a depreciating asset, just gotta be careful to not buy junkers that you have sink a shitload of money into.
