On August 24th, a page on Facebook was established by a Mr. Teeth under the ‘Thank Mr. Teeth’ URL handle. It is speculated that this is an anagram for “Mark the Tenth”, specifically a reference to the return of Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ to Spain in 1981. This is significant due to the painting’s symbolic relationship with the end of the Franco regime, as well as its depiction of the rebelling Republicans – a mixture of Anarchists, Communists, Socialists, etc. – who were bombed by Germans in support of the Nationalist regime in Spain. There is also a second reference to Guernica in the imagery of the bill itself.
Bills bearing this image with Clinton and Trump sharing the presidential place of honor on the front began turning up all around the country. Notes on their origin and meaning started collecting in Reddit’s BadSelfEater subreddit.
The imagery refers constantly to several themes: the glut, greed, and power of the Federal Government (BadSelfEater => Federal Beast), the collusion of those in power to further consolidate and reinforce that power (references to the Bohemian Club’s motto “Weaving Spiders Come Not Here”), and the tantalizing notion that someone holds the weapons to bust this filthy nest of rot and purge it with the light of truth.
