too quiet

Not creepy enough.

Could have been better, but should have been a lot worse.

Haven't seen the sequel, and probably never will.

Is this the one with the bathroom scene where she gets raped?

Why did they adapt 1 and 3 but not 2?

the sequel is objectively the worst movie of all time

Ruined by the big CGI set piece at the end.

Laughable and needlessly flashy. Right from the very first seconds of the movie when it smacks you over the head with the original SH mandolin theme I knew it was destined to fail miserably.

Just managed to dodge being lumped in with all the other terrible video game adaptations by being entertaining and loyal enough to the source material.

Revelations was absolute fucking trash. Literally everybody involved with it would prefer to have never put their name to it. I had a drink with the writer/director once, and even he despises it.

actually really good

one of the best vidya game movie adaptations along with RE 1

How can you call Resident Evil a good adaptation when it's NOTHING like the games?

Blade Runner is the best book adaptation and it has barely anything from the book.

Holy god that scene was awful. CG blood is the worst thing ever.

I'll never understand why they didn't have Pyramid Head appear in the church and just slaughter everyone, that would have felt more in line with the movie than the stupid barbed wire shit

cause it didn't suck as a movie

I don't care that it was nothing like the game

In his defense, the games have become more like the movies nowadays. Even RE4 had a direct reference to the laser hallway from the first movie.

>writer/director once, and even he despises it.
too late now for that cunt, the abomination already exists

i liked it.

All RE movies are patrician entertainment, taking the best from two worlds (and from BASED Milla)

The accompanying monologues were awful, too. Really disappointing after some solid setup scenes. I seem to recall the director pinning it on studio fuckery, they had to have a "Hollywood" closer or something vs whatever was originally planned.

One of the better video game adaptations, although it is an incredible shame we'll never see a Director's Cut as the movie was butchered by the studio.

It has its flaws but unlike a lot of video game movies you can actually see a lot of love for the games shine through.

Only the 3rd one was watchable. The rest of them are lowest denominator trash.

>whenever the camera pulled out to showcase more of a location
>eg:
>the destroyed steets- you see a mile through that fog!
>when the children were attacking- again, suppose to be pitch black
>the armless things on the hill etc etc...

>that retarded close up of the bugs face haha

Because most video game franchise licenses are prohibitively expensive to purchase the rights to for anyone other than big movie studios looking to bank on kids and nerds to establish a quick and easy franchise.

SH2's plot doesn't lend itself to this model. It has a borderline unsympathetic protagonist and a meditative plot structure which would work as an indie psych horror over a more traditional big video game adaptation.

The 3rd one was by a landslide the worst in the series. It was so fucking awful I walked out of the theater and got my money back.

Good atmosphere, but it needed a better story. Alessa a cute.

...

they're nice flicks and Milla is a surprisngly good action actress

but yeah I can't say you're wrong

one flew over the cuckoos nest is

Love that gif. I was actually gonna post it, but couldn't find it on my computer.

yes

Solid for a vidya adaptation, too many people in the town though

Too right. I did tell him in no uncertain terms that just being involved was unforgivable. He agreed, but still.

>pyramid head
>nurses
groan

All you assholes posting "Its good" or "I liked it" defend this garbage.

bad:
-lazy writing- kid screaming "Silent Hill!" better take her there
-halfassed religious themes
-lazy cut and paste soundtrack
-needless explination of the snow
-needlessly flashy cgi presentation
-monsters come off like cameo apperences
-pyramid head reaching through the door doing "I'm gonna getcha!" finger wiggling
-goofy ass looking survivors adds a comical tone to the movie
-hospital sequence of her memorizing the map and running through it feels rushed and lazy
-the fucking nsync nurses
-the comical reveal of nurse Lisa

good:
-pyramid head actually looks cool, great sound work
-the miner outfits look cool, the canary was a nice creepy touch
-the reveal of the crucified miner was nicely executed

I've only seen the first three but out of that bunch the third was head and shoulders above the others.

Silent Hill is pure ludos

Most of it looks great but something about the mood feels wrong. It's fan shit but mixing music and monsters from the first three games into the first makes it off for me and I still don't understand unnecessarily padding out the cast by adding the Borg Queen's OC character instead of just having her play Dahlia. The first half is much better than the second half and its descent into a CGI mess is sad after the good setup work it does.

The second one is fucking abysmal though. Thank God they didn't make Silent Hill 2 3D instead.

Pyramid head has nothing to do with its story. It's a manifestation of the protagonists' guilt from silent Hill 2, it shouldn't have even been in the movie in the first place. Plus his redesign looked terrible.

Agreed but he was probably the most iconic monster in the series along with the nurses. It's shit that they put him in there for plebs but I wasn't surprised. Then we started seeing his shitty redesign popping up everywhere.

Yeah, like homecoming. It's just reee-inducing

So good I went in cinema 2 times. Adaptation of 3rd is just trash.

Obviously because 1 and 3 have a connected narrative and 2 is very isolated in that sense.

They wanted to but the budget wouldn't allow it, the barbed wire scene was inspired by Urotsokudoji.

>Lazy cut and paste soundtrack

Silent Hill without Akira Yamaoka's music isn't Silent Hill.

They even flew him to the US to work on new arrangements for the score.

I never played the game, so i had no context or expectation. That being said, it scared the crap out of me, even as an adult. That scene where the woman is burned alive stays in my memory as one of the most horrific in film history.

Sucks. Anyone saying otherwise is just a casual movie goer, therefore, you agreeing with their opinion just goes to show your own "casualness"

damn youre a fucking pussy

What a faggot. Jesus Christ.

it's true. but im a girl so its okay.

That's no excuse.
Equality and all that shit right?
So, you're still a faggot.

Not having played the games yet, I loved it as a kid. I really liked the idea behing the town of SH.

Watching it today, it's a pretty avarage horror move and didn't do the game justice.

yea but when you call a girl a pussy, it doesn't really have the same affect, does it? So yea, equality and all that shit, but at the same time, society has set the standards, and i adhere to them. i paint my toenails and wear skirts and every now and again i force myself to puke after overeating so i don't get fat. but that's just how the world is. i act girly and i expect my man to be manly. deal with it, loser.

I enjoyed it and liked the barb wire monster at the end

It's a very pretty film and at least LOOKS like the games, and doesn't butcher beloved characters or monsters as badly as other adaptations. It's a fun, well-paced watch.

But if you stop and think about it for a second, it starts to look really stupid and plot holes appear everywhere. Far from the worst entry to the franchise.

Hey bitch, I don't give a fuck about equality, but seeing as you're inferior and I'm not power hungry, in an infinitely generous gesture I extended my hand. That was all you trashy cunt.

And I didn't call you a pussy. I called you a faggot.

I know you're ability pay attention is diminished from countless hours of pointless phone bullshit you're unable to follow whom you're actually talking to, but come on...

At least pretend you're trying not to look like a complete waste of space.

pls be in london

Game>movie

Oh come the fuck on. Bitches like this are a dime a dozen, get the fuck out of the internet and you'll see.

Pathetic.

The games are good, but people are too blind to their flaws. It's frustrating when other titles from the same area can be criticized for doing the same things SH was praised for.

As much as I like old resi and silent hill, tank controls are awful. Still the game is great, if you liked the movie, check out the game.

hello newfriend

I'm the newfriend? Sure.
When did trolls became the minority. What's wrong 2017.
You maniacs, you've ruined it.

i want a silent hill webm thread

Good Aesthetics.
Shit writing.
Average in every other respect.
I only showed up for visuals.

This might actually be true.

What's weird is its only 90 minutes long but feels like a fucking eternity.

I loved that they took the time to *try* and explain the lore of the town and did some world building there. Very easily could have ripped a couple of monster designs from the games and had a couple of jump scares. As a horror movie it's nothing flash but as a gothic adventure movie it's great.

I'm about to watch the 2nd one
What am I in for

i want an asshole to respond

don't watch it. I loved the first movie and can't enjoy anything about the second. Actually maybe the mannequin monster is cool but the rest is painful. Do yourself a favour and watch something else, I am quite happy to recommend something, anything.

Feminist shit. DROPPED.

Can you recommend a movie that has someone trapped in a town where they can't get out, physically, like moving in circles kind of thing, supernatural shit I don't know

As above, so below.
30 days of night.
The mist.
Darkness falls.
Mouth of madness.
Dark City.

Oh and obviously Blair Witch Project. Maybe Children of the corn as well?

that girl was so qt, what happened to her

Oh I think you misunderstood, when I said trapped in a town, moving in circles, I meant if you go out from one end you come in from another end, so you can't leave the town.
Fringe I think had an episode where that happened

Definitely Mouth of Madness then, that's literally the plot.

I'll never tell.

Fuck, I wasn't prepared for the feels my little statement would bring out in myself...

she got T H I C C

Shoot yourself in the face with a massive gun.

Cool I'll check that one out later, any more recs for similar things?

Fantastic, probably one of the better videogame to movie adaptations. The sequel was super disappointing.

>I had a drink with the writer/director once, and even he despises it.

Yeah I was fucking the lead actress once and couldn't stop talking about how she regretted it.

Silent Hill is underrated.

It's not as good as the original games, but it's as good a film as we could have hoped for. It wasn't a remake of a single game, it wasn't a stupid cabin in the woods style slasher with teenagers, it wasn't Silent Hill Revelations in 3D.

The biggest complaint that I will concede is they got the cult wrong. But the cult leader was a fantastic villain.

The second one wasn't that bad man, it was pretty good and exciting

>Hot busty nurses!

What? She is asian now?

Not enough sex and nudity

great movie. the best video game adaptation and also objectively the best horror movie of the century. the only people who disagree are weebs complaining about muh lore, or christians who don't like it when they are accurately portayed on film

Gross, sh'e's ruined

Actually, you are 100% correct.
It was so bad I just stared at the tv confused and didn't even turn it off. I just couldn't stop watching. It's so bad your brain just kind of freezes up and can't comprehend the absolute shit it is seeing.

Just so you know, you've convinced me to watch it, I want to experience that

....well, I guess suit yourself. Just don't say that i didn't warn you about Street Fighter style last boss battle.

Grave Encounters was alright. It's pretty much like that.

Pretty much this.
Movie is alright. Plot is pretty silly but it looks very nice. Pyramid head and nurses look great, great atmosphere, love the look of the buildings and costumes are excellent.
It's pretty good for a horror movie.

I always hear the first movie is surprisingly good to the extent that even Silent Hill fans enjoyed it, but that the second somehow then proceeds to be completely terrible. Never watched it though because I haven't played Silent Hill.

It's an experience. A confusing one.

i think its great. very comfy film. I dunno if this is relevant...but... Silent Hill > It (2017). Its out there now haha
