Great movie, really a 10/10. Doesn't get the credit it deserves. 100000x better than saving private ryan or apocolypse now.

Depends on the reason why you like it.
Usually entry level good films that are commonly known but not high brow
Or the really pretentious shit that if you pretend you like it you are really just trying to act sophisticated
Anybody with a Nolan film in their top ten.
I usually like watching his movies but anyone who likes them THAT much is always a pleb, guaranteed.

I didn't understand this kino when i was a kid. i had seen other ww2 movies and couldn't comprehend anything other than rugged americans charging heroically into machine gun fire. then i watched it as a grown man and was blown away by everything about it -- the philosophy, the subtlety, the refusal to adhere to cliche roles, the blatant lack of heroism. 10/10. bravo malick.
the National Geographic of war movies
thats a good thing tho

appreciation of capekino is what sets the true patricians apart from pseuds
You convinced me, this is genius.
>the philosophy, the subtlety, the refusal to adhere to cliche roles
Oh dear. The whole structure of the film was awful. the whole attempt at Biblical allegory was awful. The attempt at giving character dimension was awful; Ben Chaplin's character and the whole "Dear John" thing was forced and amateurish and clumsy. And don't get we started on the nonsense that was Jim Caviezel who goes missing for a huge portion of the film.
The technical aspects of this film were generally good, but the plot is really bad and kinda understandable when you think this this film's final form had been cut and cut and cut.
