>The gems live in an isolated sanctuary that is the Earth >Made sure all the homeworld warps, the only way to get in or out, are completely inactive >Someone fixed it to Garnet had to destroy it to ensure that no one from anywhere else could ever come to the Earth >They tell Steven it's because the last time Homeworld sent gems it was a catastrophe and the violence was unbearable >More gems do manage to come to Earth, it's exactly what's expected, big problems and all the gems on our planet almost die >Homeworld sent more gems and they unsurprisingly caused MORE problems, Steven told them to leave the planet >They come back, obviously, and the Crystal Gems launch them into space forever >So far there's no reason to believe that Homeworld sending more gems would in any way be good
>Gem Harvest >Moral of the story is how it's wrong to try to keep immigrants out of America and that everyone has something to contribute
Daniel Davis
yeah it sucked wanna go to hollywood and beat the shit out of people who think wrong ways about things? because i'm not willing to do it alone, and I can't think of anything else to do about it besides shutting up and ignoring it
Robert Green
But brown people and muslims are not hulking space abominations.
Jaxson Lewis
>Moral of the story is how it's wrong to try to keep immigrants out of America and that everyone has something to contribute Isn't that the moral of every Thanksgiving episode?
Because... the pilgrims... you know, they immigrated....
Andrew Parker
It's kind of funny how they try to push this "there's nothing wrong with immigrants" plot despite the fact that pretty much the entirety of Homeworld are completely genocidal sociopaths who don't give a single shit about killing organic life.
Matthew Myers
>Muslims don't care about killing non muslims because they're heretics who defy Allah >Homeworld gems don't care about killing the Crystal Gems because they don't conform to the Diamond Authority There is no difference. This show just wants PC points for another Emmy nomination.
Aaron Stewart
And look what they did to the natives! Can't have people who are even half as bad as us. They'd kill us all!
Robert Cooper
but if they didn't let the first immigrants in they would have been unable to defend themselves from the future waves
Jason Scott
This would've never happened if Andy actually used his barn.
Jack Hughes
The episode made no point to that effect. Andy just tried shoving them into every box he could think of. Also the Gems were in the US long before any Europeans.
The real point was Andy trying to be angry at everything changing around him and ending up alone in the end because everyone but him changed over time. And he could have adapted easily, he has a plane after all. Also they make their general point of how family can be anyone, really. Andy sees how his cousin has this insane family going and is doing things with all the old junk. So in the end he allows them to just count him in because resisting changing situations has gotten him into his isolation in the first place.
And honestly I'm surprised nobody mentioned that talking point about subsidies for lesbian farmers.
Jaxon Ramirez
>equating invading soldiers with immigrants
Really makes you think...
Michael Robinson
>Also the Gems were in the US long before any Europeans.
Fuck off, the planet belongs to humans
Alexander Howard
Not according to Homeworld. I mean, Gems don't recognise human authority. And why would they? They are undying alien warriors and they fought to preserve us as part of the wildlife. From their perspective we are a feature of their rebel colony. That's a bit like Australians respecting the laws of platypi. If there were like half a dozen Australians.
Alexander Phillips
Probably off topic but why do I get the feeling that SU is going to start taking a lot of subtle digs at Trump?
Grayson Garcia
Well you say that...
Dominic Flores
Its less about mudslimes and more about mexicans and other immigrants i think.
Andrew Gonzalez
because you simplify the world in your own mind as a holdover from primitive neural aids to fight-or-flight judgments
David Gomez
>Because... the pilgrims... you know, they immigrated....
colonized mate big difference.
Dylan King
Not really.....its just like calling murder manslaughter
James Evans
And just like man slaughter, murder has a totally different meaning.
Not sure if you're just messing with me
Juan Sullivan
Gem Harvest was likely written long before whatever dumb political debate you're engaging with here was a hot issue.
It's not about immigration. It's about a dude reconnecting with family and accepting that things change. That's it.
Kevin Perez
the only difference is that white people did it
Charles Torres
what IS the difference?
Is it just a contextual difference? The Pilgrims came and eventually all the natives died from war or disease and herded into indian reservations.
Daniel Rogers
How long do you think it takes to write a 15 minute episode?
Isaiah Adams
Only whites with good lawyers.
Unless you're still on about colonization, and you're still wrong. Check the entire south of america.
Robert James
Bite your tounge you shit flinging ape. Superior races then our own are entitled to the planet.
Zachary King
Mate we've had the episode title of Gem Harvest for roughly a year now. It's been written, or at least in concept phase, for at least a year and a half, probably longer.
Sebastian Rivera
>south america >not colonized by white people
Cooper Rivera
Colonization is making land and law out of something, with or without people.
immigration is assimilating to the law of the land.
inb4 sad indians.
Brayden Garcia
The difference is that the pilgrims actively went about killing off the prior inhabitants of the land. It wasn't something that just happened on its own.
When you immigrate somewhere you don't supplant that nation with your own laws and customs, you are worked into the existing society.
Austin Morris
>The difference is that the pilgrims actively went about killing off the prior inhabitants of the land.
shiny beads
John Cruz
I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if this episode wasn't made at least a year and a half ago
Kevin Jenkins
Immigration is still moving to a new land Murder is killing someone
Colonization and manslaughter are just glorified sugarcoatings of said terms
Owen Ward
Nah senpai, more like smallpox blankets. Disease was the real killer, the trail of tears doesn't have shit on the death toll of newly introduced diseases. >inb4 we dindu nuffin
Noah Hill
Why do people just suddenly assume its abou syrian refugees? Cant something just be a nice special about acceptance without some layerd political message you fags have to pick apart and then hate due to some assumed meaning?
Hudson Smith
thats /p*l/ for you, they're literally reverse sjws that need to find something offensive in every cultural product.
Hunter Morris
>Colonization and manslaughter are just glorified sugarcoatings of said terms
If you can't understand how those terms work you're just proving yourself wrong.
>I accidently killed someone I'm still a functioning member of society >I murdered someone I killed someone on purpose or due to my choices that cause me to be a detriment to society
>colonization making a society and set of rules in a new land >immigration Following said rules and letting go of my rules that I originally followed in my old land
They're like day and night, just because the sun and in the moon are both in the sky don't make them the same thing.
Jeremiah Perry
Shit flinging aside, can anyone spoile me about the leaks? Was this half an hour of filler or did the plot advance at least an inch?
Joseph Turner
Yet the pilgrims took over the indians land and trash their own rules. That may mean colonized, but its certainly not justified.
Michael Sanchez
>Yet the pilgrims took over the indians land and trash their own rules do you mean the indians? yes that's true because they're not immigrants. >That may mean colonized, but its certainly not justified.
who said anything about justification. Sure the gas huffers are right, whatever?
Brody Barnes
Steven met his uncle. Greg was originally named DeMayo, but legally changed it to Universe. Lapis jokes about her torment now. Gems are shit at human customs.
Lincoln Cooper
>gas huffers What the fuck are you blabbering about?
Ayden Gutierrez
So filler. Thanks, I'll wait until it actually airs.
Jace Green
>implying So taking land that wasn't settled from nomads' vast territories is the same as draining resources from a fully established society while screaming at them every chance they get and occasionally stabbing someone to death?
Henry Baker
however, they also show that they can be brought around to the Crystal Gem's point of view just by not being dicks to them.
Except the dedicated soldier classes, anyways.
So I guess they're fine with immigrants, as long as they assimilate and abandon the insanity of Homeworld?
Evan Cruz
Immigrants =/= conquering empires. Someone who wants to join a society is inherently different with someone who wants to destroy a society and replace it with their own.
Brandon Walker
>Lapis jokes about her torment now. as always, best girl.
Aiden Edwards
True, Aliens can contribute to society through technology
Cameron Rivera
Its equally bad desu. Thing about american coloinization is its too late to change it, but we have enough power to stop shira law monsters before they REALLY fuck things up.
Jayden Reyes
>people think colonization and illegal immigration are the same
Adrian Taylor
>liberals
Jonathan Peterson
That's gross
Thomas Moore
>Title has been released for a year but not the story. >What is South Park Steven Universe probably has more of a budget than South Park and reworking a script to be topical sounds exactly like Sucrose, especially since the bomb format is made so she can release stuff at her leisure. At the very best/worst Crewinverse made two versions of the ep for Trump winning/losing.
Also I got the feeling that for all her wisdom, Garnet should have understood why Andy was mad at first about the engine and could have done some character building for both of them. Especially since Andy called it an abomination because it was something he cherished being fused and mangled into something else without permission (inb4 but tools can consent).
Austin Gray
Just because the definitions arent exactly the same, theyre similar enough.
Grayson Roberts
>taking land until they are reduced to live in reservoirs >breaking literally every treaty you made with them at multiple chance >i-it's fine! look at these people coming here to work! they are the bad ones because some of them are criminals!
white people are hilarious always ready to claim something isn't fair while doing worse
Xavier Morris
Just like sugar and corn syrup
Ayden Barnes
No, shit doesn't work like that, stop being stupid.
Adrian Fisher
>it's not rape, it's just sexual abuse!
James Williams
...
Brayden Adams
>>i-it's fine! look at these people coming here to work! they are the bad ones because some of them are criminals!
You do know that legal immigrants willing to work are welcomed with open arms in the US? Like that's why immigration is so succesful. It's just this romantization of it, that we need to open the flood gates and let everyone in, that's ruining things right?
Lincoln Wright
>world still majorly unclaimed. Great swathes of unused and unattended land >affects geopolitics as such
>modern world has everything claimed, even has laws for space >this standard should be used on older times Kek you're a retard moralist my friend. At least you know Sharia has to be stopped.
>coming here to worl Care to show me the statistics on that one? I have them from my country and I can tell you a VAST majority sit on their ass getting welfare. Worse once they're in they can force the nation to accept their family too.
Further, those events weren't colonisation. They were after colonies had been made. What the people of that continent decided to do geopolitically after colonising is irrelevant to that action. Funny how you aren't talking about the tribal genocides in Aus or Africa. Funny how you aren't talking about the brutal territory wars in South America. Suck my dick faggot. The pendulum swings.
Ryder Lopez
>So taking land that wasn't settled from nomads' vast territories >implying
The Natives were pretty thick on the ground til' those diseases rolled around and got about 90% of the population. And nomads were more a thing out West.
Unruly Immigrants are vastly preferable than being shoved off your land while your society collapses around you. Immigrants are way easier to deal with than advanced conquerors.
They're fairly similar, but there's some distinction.
If immigrants or refugees or whatever start forming their own communities outside of the settlements of the locals, not subject to local law, I'd be cool with calling that colonization.
I'd also be fucking pissed at any nation that just lets that happen, because that's pretty fucked up.
Lucas Barnes
>Comparing a slice-of-life sci-fi made months before airing is the same as a show designed to be topical
Luis Peterson
Native Americans will always be asspained because they got conquered by a patently superior force.
Matthew Jones
is Sup Forums really this out of touch?
Joshua Morales
>The Natives were pretty thick on the ground what
>Immigrants are way easier to deal with than advanced conquerors. we still haven't fixed it
Carson Moore
For things like taking over land that isnt yours it does
Alexander Allen
you're basically saying socialism and capitalism are the same things because they're both ways to run things.
Christopher Rivera
You fucking retarded ape, natives were everywhere when the brits started taking it over. Nice try though.
Easton Myers
>Immigrants are way easier to deal with than advanced conquerors. Only when you're in a society that deems it acceptable to do so. The west on the other hand is using them like a sad teen girl with a razor blade.
a) disease was unintentional b) thick on the ground doesn't make a society or a civilisation. A geographical large spread is not inherent of a societally unified culture and people. c) Colonisation stops after the colonies. It's just that the colonies were invasive after that, and not just to natives, mind, but to each other. Hence all the fucking wars.
Tyler Allen
it did
Julian Brooks
>retarded ape I enjoy the irony here; Also proof.
Luke Robinson
>white settlers >generally try to give native americans a reasonable (from white perspective) deal >have a concept of honor and being merciful to their enemies when they lose >allows natives to exist and live however they please even when decimated by disease and war
>native americans >recorded incidents of sabotaging white settler attempts to survive, even before warring >recorded incidents of theft, typically alcohol or guns >regularly killed, scalped and even cannibalized those they defeated including women and children >complain endlessly about how their reservations are shitholes >when they make tons off money off casinos, dont have to pay taxes, receive government support and their rampant alcoholism and drug use is swept under the rug
Don't feel bad for Native Americans this holiday season. Just invite them over for dinner and hope colonization isn't brought up.
Michael Nguyen
>Trump doesn't pay taxes what a smart man for cheating the system and finding loopholes >natives don't pay taxes because they don't have to FUCKING SCUM! THEY SHOULD PAY THEM LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!
also lol, Europeans and whites are the masters of atrocities
Nathaniel Thompson
>Sup Forumstards can't stay on their board and have to go and bitch at anything that doesn't agree with them
Adrian Jones
To be fair, who wouldn't be? The Irish are still mad at the Brits, the Greeks are eternally incensed about Constantinople, and I can hear the anguished cries of "revise Trianon" from across the Atlantic.
Being assmad about the past isn't something unique to the natives.
Yeah, the West isn't really handling it well. I stand by that the West will end up way better than the Natives will, if only because 90% of the population isn't keeling over from Arab Pox or some shit.
a) I didn't think it was. Not like anyone really understood how disease worked at the time, I mentioned it because, again, 90% wiped out. Wrecks a society. b) You're right about that. They were a fairly complex, but not technologically advanced, set of societies. Trade routes spanning the continent, complex (if barbaric) systems of ritual and leadership, fairly rich cultural traditions, and all he hallmarks of Human societies. Not the equal of Europe or the other civilizations across Eurasia, but they had their merits. c) Colonization does stop after the colonies, but the colonies didn't stop til' the frontier was closed.
Ian Harris
but trump isn't using a loophole for those taxes, unless deductibles are now a loophole?
and the loophole hes using he admits to and says that he wants to close.
Chase Clark
How does he come into play in the show?
Chase Butler
Trump does pay taxes, he pays less taxes because he hires an accountant who finds loopholes in our terrible tax system.
Matthew Cruz
hes dead in canada.
Liam Ortiz
The moral of Thanksgiving is to learn from the indians' mistake. The indians should have protected their borders. They didn't. Their population and way of life was decimated. Now they live on reservations.
William Brown
Andy's a Donald Trump supporter
Dylan Myers
the moral is to never trusts anglos
Evan Mitchell
But Anglos are your greatest ally and protecter
Grayson Butler
>loopholes Not a conservative but please stop using emotional fearmongering terms like this. They're deductibles written purposely into the tax code for the rich to abuse.
Ryan Phillips
The moral is to never trust someone more powerful than you
Ian Stewart
I think we watched totally different episodes.
Uncle's accusations of them being weirdo space hippie immigrants were entirely secondary to them taking over his barn and messing with his family's shit.
You're just trying to stir up retard anger.
Chill my Brobalogna.
Brayden Perry
>masters of atrocities And society, civilisation, art, culture, violence, romance, philosophy, science and technology.
Daniel Lee
asians got you beaten in all those things
Landon Price
>The troubling gems were all officials from a military invading force >The Crystal Gems are all actual aliens as well with the exception of Amethyst >Also all the hostile gems were allowed to explain their situation and those cooperative enough were allowed on the planet and after some time adapting they even got positive productive roles as Crystal Gems I think the episode fits the message well.
Colton Perez
Anyone else hate that they don't have holidays in SU?
Kevin Wright
>asians got you beaten in all those things
stop Sup Forums
Bentley Roberts
Well I'm glad for once that its Sup Forums reading politics into places where none exist. A quick browse on tumblr shows that there are only like one or two people making posts saying this is a political message, and those are the normal crazies.
Justin Morgan
Who the hell is that guy in the middle.
Caleb Cox
>guy that's Bismuth, she showed up for one of the rare half-hour episodes
Zachary Kelly
>she
gems don't have genders
Chase Anderson
He was the bad crazy gem that only wanted violence against your enemy, that's why it looks more like a man than a woman
Landon Gray
hah hope this isn't actually the reason.
Nicholas Watson
No they don't. They can sort of compete in philosophy and technology. They are better in intelligence but we still roll them in science and all else.
Thomas Gonzalez
Completely forgot about the episode. Should I watch it or is it just MELODRAMA INCARNATE?
