Gomorrah is a great show but it's almost too realistic. Everyone in it is so evil that there are no sympathetic characters. They're so compelling but it's hard to root for any of them.

It's a lot like The Wire in that they're selling drugs outta ghetto apartment blocks, but it's a Mafia show based in Naples. Really hardcore show and there are some great characters in it. It's a must watch if you like the genre.

Genny is not the sympathetic character. None of them are. Genny was a complete ass to Ciro in the first season and in the secodn even though he mellowed down a bit, he still betrayed his father and was willing to play both sides when it suited him.

The sympathetic characters are the small side characters like Prince, that kid Ciro manipulated and killed in the first season. And maybe even Salvatore Conte. The rest are despicable people who all have some decent qualities in them nevertheless.

Genny is sympathetic in that he's the MC, was pretty innocent when the show started, and was less shitty than others by comparison. The only really fucked up thing he did was kill that guy when he stole his car.

and her and tony have chemistry. carm is sharp like he is and has the same sense of humor. her materialism meant she loved being taken care of by tony, and she took care of him in turn, which fed into tony's mama's boy-ism. tony's whores aren't exactly the kind of women he could come home to, crack wise with, be served a delicious home-cooked by, and snuggle up to while watching some old WC Fields movie.

They were each other's first real love, married young, and basically back then marriage was final and permanent until one party died.
