A gold backed currency for a country (Libya) let alone the African Union is a direct threat to not only the US dollar, but to the fiat currency system globally (fiat currency is basically currency backed by nothing, ie full faith and credit of such and such government/central bank, lol).
A currency backed by gold is infinitely more stable and secure than fiat currency. Investors LOVE gold backed currencies because it means more stability and less risk of the local central bank manipulating the currency willy-nilly. This would have caused an unbelievable amount of money flowing into Africa and would make them a virtual over night power house.
Why can't a gold backed currency be allowed to happen? In a nut shell it SEVERELY limits the profitability and reach of the global banking behemoths (think Goldman Sachs, Citi Group, Bank of America, JP Morgan, Deutche Bank, etc). Our current fractional reserve system gives banks the power to make money out of thin air. If there is a gold standard, banks are severely limited in the amount of money they can create because it has to be tied to the amount of gold available. Not enough gold? Too bad, can't make any more derivatives to bet on while giving yourself FAT bonuses.
How does this tie to the Clintons? We already know the banks have donated fuck tons of money to the Clintons including 'speaking' fees. In 1999 Bill Clinton repealed the law that prevented banks from merging investment banking (crazy complicated derivatives bets, think financial crisis) and commercial banking (loans to mom and pop and regular mortgages, etc). This law single handedly allowed the banks to become wildly profitable by creating and betting on derivatives (literally the value of something is derived from something else).
