Watching People of Earth and The Expanse right now.
American Gods is kind of a sci-fi/fantasy mix but it's not spaceships/aliens etc which is what I think you're looking for

You mean, the one wort seeing out a couple Star Treck and Battlestar Galattica?

> The Expanse (space opera, good rithms, even if full of stereotyped characters and cliches)

Anime that you might not know
> Planetes

That's all I can do. Bump for interest also

How are you finding season 2 user? Looks like cgi improved a bit, but it got far away politicall, and many characters started to be uninteresting.

>The Expanse

lol

Only just finished S1, kind of disappointed that they introduced some 'magic' tech bullshit from what started out as quite a grounded setting but I'll keep going

Battlestar Galactica
Farscape
Continuum
Dark Matter
The Expanse
Space: Above and Beyond

I know

The Orville is bretty gud

youtube.com/watch?v=FV2ojHR40TQ
I dont know how this was able to go so far under everyone's radar.

Its kino.
I loved it.
all 13 episodes of it

You like lovecraftian sci fi?

buck rogers.
i remember fapping to markie.

Babylon 5
Battlestar Galactica
Blake’s 7
Farscape
Star Trek

Stargate SG-1
Stargate Universe

>will be pretty good
After just one episode it looks like it has potential but it's hardly a classic out of the gate. Mind you Encounter at Farpoint and the first season of TNG was godawful hippy trash but look at how that show pulled it together.

Red Dwarf
The BBC Hitchhiker's TV show
UFO
Space 1999
Firefly
Childhood's End (based on the Arthur C. Clark book)

SGU would have survived if they moved it to Netflix. Same with Caprica.

Killjoys
Dark Matter
V

Watched the expanse. Probably one of the best sci fi's ive seen.

Not into anime but I'll give it a look.

That show was fucking great. Shame it got cancelled

Seen both like 3 times

Seen all

Watching killjoys atm. it's nothing special but it gives me my fix. seen the others

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

It's an anime, but adapted from actual books (instead of from manga or YA light novels like most anime) so it's missing most of the cringeworthy shit that other anime has.

Also it's available on YouTube.

i feel like its supposed to be a comedy but i didnt laugh once. unironically better story than voyager though

Seth has said that the marketing is not right, he sees it as a sci-fi show with comedy elements rather than a comedy show with some sci-fi.

Travelers

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and SAC 2nd Gig are very decent science fiction stories, if you can stomach watching Japanese cartoons.

Ascension was a pretty decent mini series, even though it was supposed to be the pilot of some non-comissioned show.

Im not into anime either, but can agree that Planetes was decent.

I didn't laugh because literally all of the jokes from that episode were shown in the trailer.

Journeyman - 1 season show about Kevin McKidd time travelling at random.

Space Precinct - Puppet future sci fi cop show from the 90s with awesome looking aliens.

Charlie Jade - South African show about universe jumping.

The Lost Room - Show about objects with cool powers.

I could list weird cool forgotten shows all day. Seven Days, Seaquest, Outer Limits, Hyperdrive, Threshold, Early Edition, so many.

Stargate SG 1
Dark matter
Lexx
Farscape
The expanse
Star trek
Red dwarf
Hyperdrive
Firefly
The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
Blakes 7
Battlestar galactica
Black mirror
Babylon 5

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. The Expanse
3. Firefly
4. Dollhouse
5. Dark Matter
6. Killjoys

The Expanse and Cowboy Bebop are the best ones on the list. The Expanse has the best worldbuilding and plot while Cowboy Bebop doesn't really have a plot that ties the series together. Bebop's more a "case of the week" format that has some recurring elements and characters that are tied to the past of the crew. It's got a melancholy undercurrent to it.

Seeing as no one has said it yet, Utopia.

I like The Expanse because they keep things somewhat hard.
of course that goes of the window later on and physics stop applying

>See list
>No Person of Interest
Plebs

Also my list goes with
Battlestar Galactica
Caprica
The Expanse
Continuum
Firefly
Dark Matter
Stargate (All of them)
Babylon 5

>Person of Interest

Piss off. Its barely a cyber show

OP here. Oh man I can't watch this killjoys anymore 4 episodes in the "breeding" episode.

Dat acting

I miss comfy startgate type shows :(

Anime. More sci-fi than western television has.

Start with 80s OVAs and late 90s series and move from there.

From the definition of Science fiction
>Science fiction often explores the potential consequences of scientific and other innovations, and has been called a "literature of ideas"
From POI description in genres:
>Crime drama
>Action
>Science fiction

Didn't know that existed, please post if you know of any.

name me some anime that isnt mecha bullshit.
and dont bother with bebop because everyone has seen that by now.

>The Expanse
Well, just to pick the easy one: Ghost in the Shell

If you want something trippy on top of your scifi then you can always go with Serial Experiments Lain.

disregard "the expanse"
had it highlighted cuz I looked it up, didn't realize it was in my post

Problem Child 2
It's kino.

I mean if you're worried about me naming bebop you haven't seen fuckin nothing yet. Off the top of my head:

Armitage III
MD Geist
Blame!
Dead Leaves
Genocyber
Gunnm
Orgel
Shin Hurricane Polymar
LoGH
Key the Metal Idol
Ghost Urn
Twintail ni Narimasu
Texhnoshit

And this is ignoring sci-fi that has mecha elements which are not intrinsically bad. Tip of the iceberg, western television is an embarrassment to the genre.

LoGH & Texhnolyze are the only ones worth watching here.

Just watch Stargate(except for Universe) and Farscape. Everything else will look like boring edgy shit written by and for teenagers.

>western television is an embarrassment to the genre

how can you tell if a show is from western japan or from eastern japan?

Texhnolyze is literally the worst thing I listed hence the "shit".

>Key
>Not worth watching

Serial Experiments Lain. Great sci-fi anime that avoids all mecha shit (I can't watch anything that features mechas, no matter how good it is).

Absolute pleb.

Sup Forums is screaming right now and they don't know why

The irony being that you've watched less than fifty series if you think Texh is good.

The only reason I mention it is because Yoshii is a well-above average character and unfortunately the series doesn't bank on this.

Dead Leaves is great.

Give LoGH a shot.

>LoGH opening sequence 1

>LoGH episodes 1-7 (the first story arc)

LoGH might be the manliest thing ever made in the visual medium.

If you want to pretend like you have a clue and roleplay a PHD in physics, quantum physics, orbital mechanics and chemistry, Expanse should be good enough for you. Despite the fact that the writers of the books as well as the showrunners outright dismiss the claim that the show is hard sci-fi or intended to be hard sci-fi.

There's only as much realism to be found here as serves the tone and themes of the story. It's not intended for masturbatory purposes of autists.

Also, protomolecule is absolutely not "we need an excuse for physics to stop mattering so we can introduce space magic". Its role in the plot is not what you think it is.
