If you have read anything about young people in recent years, you could be forgiven for believing that we are living through a cultural revolution, unprecedented in its destructiveness and self-regard. Millennials don’t just reject the music, art, or clothes of their parents; they also reject the older generation’s major sources of economic and spiritual well-being, like home ownership, cars, even sex. They’d rather pay to “access” music and movies than to buy them, and they don’t aspire to steady jobs (long live the gig economy!) or vacations. Their lifestyle choices are informed either by an admirable anti-consumerist streak or by a lazy reluctance to be weighed down by success and owning stuff. They’ve even killed the napkin industry.
None of this is true. The idea that these “trends” in consumption are driven primarily by cultural preferences, rather than a faltering economy and ever-rising costs of living, is difficult to believe, but that’s the prevailing narrative. Business Insider’s story blaming millennials for a slump in the sales of paper napkins is a perfect example of why that interpretation is absurd. The article contends that, like eating cereal, buying paper napkins is too much work for millennials. Similarly, The Washington Post has pointed out that young people have found ways to make the paper napkin’s rival, the paper towel, look chic on social media, the only thing they really care about. Neither article mentions that millennials are the first cohort in American history to enjoy lower living standards than their parents. Not buying napkins is a pretty painless way to save money.
The Myth of the Millennial as Cultural Rebel
It's hard to achieve anything when everything is a hate crime.
Staying home and masturbating is the only real safe space you have.
This. It's just like discussing the failure of masculinity without mentioning no-fault divorce, chemical castration or schools penalizing being a boy.
>chemical castration
Go on...
Boomers don't want to admite they are wrong. What else is new?
Spot on, it's just harder to have all of that shit now. Jobs are scarce, immigration, skilled and unskilled, is out of control, and benefits such as paid vacation are rarities even in full time work.
Yeah, no shit. You think I live in the nigger projects without a car eating chili mac for every other meal as a choice? I fucking hate boomers, I hate the fact that it'll take them 30+ more years to completely die off even more though.
Not only is math racist, it's ageist as well.
Anyone actually read the whole article? I thought it was pretty red-pilled for MSM coverage. What it didn't cover is that job turnover in high ranking positions is lower because boomers are living longer so the american dream is occupied until they die.
when only the top 2% of IQ people are required to run the world, what incentive do average people have to overproduce. we are living within our means and we owe you nothing.
we will not reproduce and bring more average lives into a world that demands only the expendables or the gifted.
the future has no use for people who are struggling to break free from slightly below the exact center of the hiearchy of needs. everything milienlais have been told is worth living for has been stripped of its facade by globalism and the internet.
all we have left to get out of bed in the morning for is our video games and our anime and you sure as fucked can believe non of those things are worth working more than the bare minimum for.
south korea, japan and singapore are setting the standard for people that know their own value and understand their place. you can't convince us that the carrots on sticks that motivated previous generations are worth it.
Top 2% IQ lonely NEET reporting in.
Huh. You know who else blames everyone but themselves for their lot in life?
Niggers.

Holy shit, how out of touch are those people?
shouldn't you be working on the automated systems that make my only value to society useless?
I'm too autistic/mentally ill for that. I live in an apartment building of mostly people my same age who are mostly tall white chads and stacies and the future holds nothing. My parents fund my existence and when they are gone, I have no idea what will happen to me.
HE HATES THAT THEIR PUTTING CHEMICALS IN THE WATER THAT TURN THE FROGS GAY
I am a lonely rich fag, ama
Difference is niggers don't work.
How hard was it to save the first 100k? 250k? 1mil?
Nigger detected
Millennials aren't rebels at all. They're slaves to the mainstream mass media culture if anything
Can I suck you off in exchange for food and housing?
Can I have some shekels
The first 100k took ten years and the million was pretty quick because I invested it well. I basically saw the demographic shift in Canada and bought lots of leveraged real estate that did well. However I am lonely as much and despise the rest of my generation.
Honestly I have spent a lot of money to have people essentially hang out with me. Nothing is depressing like looking around the table at a restaurant and realizing that everyone you are spending time with is on payroll.
Conservatism/Reactionist is the new counter-culture.
Prove me wrong.
I have paid whores more than that. I am sure that if you have a good mouth, you can make some decent coin.
I feel bad for the kids. They're ultimately the product of globalization - lowered living standards, massive debt, useless educations, bleak prospects. Can't really blame them for dropping out of the system. It doesn't have much to offer them, or much use for them apart from paying for those gold-plated pensions.
I'd be pissed too.
Thanks.
Do you have any interest in getting into other sectors besides real estate, if not why? Have you tried to do so in the past?
I ask because I've been thinking about moving into real estate first then moving on into other areas that are my primary goals. Do you see anything wrong with this or perhaps why it wouldn't work?
>mfw greek life member at my college
>mfw greek life has now become counter culture
wew
Ah well, hope you find some people so you arent lonely richfag.
>The article contends that, like eating cereal, buying paper napkins is too much work for millennials.
What the FUCK.
Eating cereal takes almost no work. That's why it constitutes 80℅ of my diet.
Complete and utter bullshit.
The Internet has caused this. It is the endoplasmic reticulum of the human race-cell. We are undergoing a paradigm shift and AI / androids are next. We have wheat and chaff, and all of us can be either.
Will humanity get cancer or survive?
>Some 50 yr old WP journalist tried to analyze millennial behavior and all they got was that paper towels look better on the internet
Allahu Akbar!
The U.S. must take Monroe Doctrine now.
The U.S. must withdraw American Forces from all Foreign Countries now.
Stop America's doing its all wars now!
I love American99% and the U.S.
Japan, Germany and China are evil empires.
Islamists' true enemies are Japan, Germany, China, top1%, Wall-Street, American-Military-Industry and DOD!
Allahu Akbar!
Found the one refugee that made it to Japan
Why do you blame the Internet and not the elites who set this up long before the Internet existed? The Internet freed is from the tyranny of gatekeepers
neoliberals and globalists have destroyed the economy of the west
of course all the millennials are poor now.
The only """""""people""""" who don't understand this are the shit sucking boomers who are eternally stuck in 1968
Kek
Not exactly blaming, just cause and effect.
We are entering a new era where individuals will become more helpless and unintelligent and rely on the hive for their very survival.
I am not saying this is a good (or bad) thing, it is simply the next step in our macroevolution.
Personally I will be camping, BBQing and sailing, and humanity at large can stuff it.
Maybe in the future but I want to turn this business into 'a gusher' before I expand into anything else. I understand real estate so I will probably stand in this area to some capacity.
They don't want to admit that the 60's and every law and policy that came about as a result of our "cultural revolution" has stripped this country and its people of everything that made us proud and prosperous in the past.
Every industrialised nation being bombed to shit after WW2 helped, but we could have kept up our standards above where they are now, but globalization was more important to them
tl:dr Our society valued "tolerance" and short-term gains at the expense of long-term prosperity, and is now wondering why they're losing both, so they blame the generations that now have to live in standards below their own.
That's pretty sad.
But at least you have the money to pay for people to accompany you to a restaurant. Many do not have that and are in your position as far as being lonely. Count your blessing in that regard, and keep your head up, rich fag.
Millennials are as slavish as they come. The only rebellious thing about them is their incessant need to draw attention to themselves.
Christ, finding a millennial who has an independent though is like finding a goddamn unicorn. Most of the ones that do are too afraid to discuss it.
i think everytime there is an article blaming men or millennials it means someone is losing money
millenials are way more consumer aware than boomers, they started the trend of buying shit from china and 2nd hand stuff. advertising is beggining to lose its power on millenials because they can do research to find out what is good or cheap.
so instead of advertising they attack millennials directly, saying they have to buy more and work more.
very nice article OP i appreciated every word, it encompasses every wrong the baby boomer has done to us, business wise, culturally, and politically and millennials aren't having any of it.
If Donald trump wins presidency and brings business and labor back to the US you can expect the millennials to be the generation comparable to the GI generation.
>so instead of advertising they attack millennials directly, saying they have to buy more and work more.
baby boomers will go to their graves never admitting their mistakes, better to let them die than to ruin our economy further
My jewish mother sent it to me.
I have no idea how to interpret this statement
AUTISM: BEHIND THE TENDIES
It's like the wise man says
You can't make a molotov outta champagne
This article is extremely shortsighted and basically says nothing
Unless the message is its all going according to the plan
