A certain level of average intelligence is required for a democratic society to function. The Middle East is below that threshold, and our style of democracy could never function.
Our style of democracy sort of functions here. Perhaps we aren't intelligent enough to be truly stable. It has certainly failed in Europe, which has a slightly higher average IQ because it is more white. There, they have elected to follow whimsical thinking about equality and multiculturalism and it's proving to be disastrous.
For unintelligent societies to be stable a top-down style of leadership is required. Something like an oligarchy, one-party republic, or a monarchy. Dictatorships don't seem to have long-term stability because of outside intervention, except in the special case of North Korea which has very special circumstances.
I think almost any system can work in a very intelligent AND homogeneous society. But when there are disparate levels of intelligence and abrasive cultures there will be injustice and dysfunction in any system. Wealth seems to be the only thing propping up the US, it's actually quite a failed system that will not sustain itself much longer as automation replaces bottom tier workers yet they continue to be "entitled" to some arbitrary QOL standard.
