But postcommunist countries tend to have a fuckhuge home ownership rate and it has led them to have people who live decent lives, afford shit and such while getting the wage the bad african countries get.

So, Sup Forums, why shouldn't states provide homes?

Obviously very basic ones, but there could be a state program for giving actual houses to people who have more than 1 kid. That would sure as fuck boost birthrates.

I'm not advocating communism here, I want to have an intelligent discussion about home ownersihp.

Romania and Bulgaria have like a 90% home ownership rate. People there can somehow survive with 200ish euros a month and a large part of that is the home ownership.

Also a reason only the majority imigrate and not fucking everyone is also that.

True, land value counts, but what if the state was obliged to offer you A home if you had none and were, let's say, 21 and employed. Or in higher education (which in my opinion should count as of a postgrad specialization). And then the state was only obliged to fullfil certain criteria - within a commuting distance of a city/your workplace, more than 50 square meters of living space and a separate bedroom. If married, more. If with a child, more.

Yeah, one fifth the size of a regular apartment. And you'd be lucky if you got a shared bathroom. Many people didn't even get that, they had to shit in outhouses.
There's still a deficiency of toilets in Romania because communist housing was built without them.

It's nice to have a safety net desu. I live alone, on rent and am employed, but if shit hits the fan, I know I'll always have a place to go back to, in my hometown with my parents. But this:

Is just false. is more correct. I "survive" on the 200 or so Euro I have left over after utilites and rent, sure. But most of that money goes towards food. I can afford to order food from a pizza place or a sushi place once a week, and that's what I consider luxurious living.

If I go to a restaurant or to the movies or for beers, it's a big hit to my budget. I've purchased a full priced game only once in my life. I don't own any movies or music albums. I only get books as gifts or I order from the book depository. It has free delivery, but I have to wait for a month to get it. Since I got an e-reader, I don't even do that anymore.

My parents' apartment really is just a safety net at this point, but it's damn nice to have it. With that said, even if you take my previous paragraph into account, I still consider myself luckier than some westerners

I'm from the Ukraine. These free houses were so bad you could barely live in them. Families of 7 would have to stay in one bedroom flats. There was so much corruption when it came to officials being bribed to give out better housing. Ridiculous scheme, should not be implemented. Fuck off you commie cunt.

I am against communism, but I do like a state-capitalist system like China has, with 4 year plans and such. They have all kinds of cool projects, mega-structures and deep-sea bases. They are surpassing us. I think the next 4 year plans will have a moonbase.

I know of some cases where factory workers would get housing if they move to a new town to work in a new plant, or be allowed to purchase/rent an appartment at a huge discount. But giving away homes to everybody? Never heard of that.
