I don't care much about USA history but after watching Apocalypse Now I was wondering what the fuck Vietnam could have done to threaten Murrica.

>muh communism domino effect
They wanted to remove communism
THOSE GODDAMED COMMIES WANTED TO KEEP US OUT OF THE BEST SURFING PLACES IN THE WORLD, SO WE HAD TO RAIN NAPALM ON THEIR HEADS!
making a decision
Why did it matter to USA if Vietnam was communist?
Who the hell knows.
Maybe it was being used as a political propaganda for votes, maybe it was scare tactics to prevent communism from spreading, maybe they wanted to create a state puppet to have some operation grounds in asia.
>what the fuck Vietnam could have done to threaten Murrica
Absolutely nothing, of course. It was all about the hard-on against communism. Communism was seen as an unholy evil.
It was a proxy war with Commie Russia and China.
If the US backed down they would have looked weak.
Needed also to maintain army with combat experience and intel on jungle warfare.
Good shit;

> what is domino effect
Those battlefield series ones are sick
Of course.
Funny the old commies were still less cucked than the modern left that is running our countries now. I dont like communism either but you have to give credit where its due.
It was to stop communism spreading further into parts of SEA.
Vietnam the country was inconsequential.
amateurs by usa standards
>Funny the old commies were still less cucked than the modern left
Because the Commies switched tactics.
it wasnt the commies who switched tactics
because we all must remember (((who))) was behind the commies and capitalists and todays left and right
(((they))) control both sides. Dont be fooled. Ever wonder why a third position always ends up falling part mysteriously?
Exactly.
People don't really understand the Cold War and modern geopolitics.

It's depressing how much Vietnam is whitewashed. It was an absolute feast for the Military Industrial Complex and it was a powermove on the global chessboard, but nowadays you're considered "weird" if you know things and try to find out about the world and what's going on and who's in charge and why.
why does everyone have a subjective view on the number of victims? this numbers aren't true,at least for yugoslavia
Militarily, absolutely nothing.
It's essentially the same as the Soviet-Afghan War: a superpower went in with a mere fraction of its total armed forces that had incredible amounts of defence spending, had exceedingly more advanced equipment and had better tactical doctrines and training than the enemy.
The Viet Cong lost almost every major pitched battle they fought against the US, and yet they (just like the Afghan mujahideen) successfully beat one of the world's strongest superpowers. Why? Because they stayed alive for long enough that the greater power gave up.
It's asymmetric warfare.
As for the reason the US went in, it was geopolitics in the game against the USSR. If you lose somewhere in your sphere of influence, chances are the enemy will benefit there. Plus everywhere you keep from communism and memetic state capitalist systems is a new market to (((invest))) and (((export into))).
Lots of good video links in here. It was said that if Vietnam fell all of South East Asia and beyond would turn communist.
It was also sold as a numbers game to the American people. "Sure we lost a 100 troops today, but they lost 1000. That's a ten to one ratio, so we are winning!" Except it didn't work out that way.
If you want to see another movie that's a perfect example of this, check out "We were Soldiers." Their mission was to find and kill the enemy not to capture real estate. After the fight was over, we just left, and they came back. Total waste of life (on both sides.) But that was the politics of the time.
This
If South Vietnam would have been a thing still they would have probably been better off though desu
Because US was messing with other countries politics since their independency, that's why.
People call it war against, communism, war against drugs, war against nazis, war against terrorism or wathever that float their boats.
The facts are clear, US is always promoting wars and instability for their own interests.
Control of a certain drug trade
" french vietnam heroin " in jewgel.
I just saw Apocalypse Now Redux yesterday. And today this thread pops out, the hivemind is real.

Stop being so stupid. Life/reality is not like a kike movie. Don't put them on the same plane.
It was called the domino theory. The idea was that the spread of communism had to be stopped wherever it sprang up, no matter how insignificant the country, or, like falling dominoes one country after the other would start falling toward communism....first Vietnam, then Laos, then Cambodia, then Indonesia, then the Phillipines, eventually all of Asia.
Why don't people seem to understand that we had an ally in South Vietnam? We didn't invade Vietnam we were supporting our ally because when the North took over they would have had all of them killed.
>The Vietnam War was an imperialist act
I'm sick of this meme. It was an invasion. Merely support for our ally until we said fuck you guys this is your war.
