look at twitter accounts for nate silver / nate cohn. both of them were aghast at a major network doing this.
you DON'T weigh by 2012 demogaphics, you weigh by the expected demographics of the 2016 electorate.
plus, the LV model used by each company is compltely different and in some cases proprietary. we don't know ORC's model. but they may be right, they are a good pollster. their screening process indicated to them the likely voter pool looked like a T+2 final lead.
the reason why people obsess over this is because its not a university that released this poll or an online poll. it was a high quality company, big 5 poll, done by live interviewers using a LV model. it was a big deal.
