Humans like repition, and now that the focus groups have been replaced by algorithms people with money can make even more money of that behavior. Or in the case of reddit, get upvotes.

The whole becoming rich story arc was roseannes character's giving the family a happy ending thru her writing; when in the shows canon they were always poor and things didnt turn out as well.
Also Dan never survived his heart attack and was actually dead for the entire last season.

That was acceptable since everyone was still involved. Outside of that, if they tried, they would run the characters into the ground.
They'd probably force Jerry and Larry out of the writing room.

home improvement had this weird ABC family going on but the dad was kind of a real piece of shit. just outright telling them to shut up when the kids or mom interrupted him and regularly called them names like idiot. pretty sure he even raised his backhand, albeit jokingly.. but if that laugh track wasn't there it'd be kinda dark
