ITT: Movie Vaporwave
ITT: Movie Vaporwave
what the fuck does that even mean?
Why is there a horrific looking ghost face to the left of her head?
He wants aesthetic movies
...
I don't remember that shot from Lost in Translation
It's a promo pic but it captures the feel of the movie perfectly.
Drive had a kino soundtrack.
Well, more accurately, it had too great songs
...
le Refn flicks
le Nightcrawler
Drive and nightcrawler aren't vaporwave aesthetic. If anything theyre closer to retrowave
you're thinking of synthwave
what is the difference between vaporwave, retrowave and synthwave, anyway?
the a e s t h e t i c

...
How would one capture the vaporwave feel on film? Is it even possible?
That movie clearly shoegaze you fucking dumbass
...
Vaporwave is characterized by use of samples that are distorted in pitch and/or speed and is often coupled with imagery of retro computer graphics and snippets of random advertising/imagery from early 90s pop culture. Also it's usually lo-fi. Lost in Translation isn't remotely vaporwave and neither is drive.

I hate this vaporwave meme
...
Who came up with this retarded genre?
>OP is a teenaged faggot
Paris Texas
Neon Demon
Third was not me but looks like Knight of Cups?
What an utterly confused idea for a thread
It just kind of surfaced and gained traction in corners of the internet around 2012. You can't really attribute it to one artist or person.
memers
...
OK a e s t h e t i c films, whatever, it's an image board where people share images
thanks for you are input
>synthwave
neon grids, deloreans, blood dragon and synth, some overlapping with rave culture because of that
>retrowave
revival of the past, barely anything new from when it was effectively the current mainstream beside context and filters
>vaporwave
both of the above, layering the audio and collaging the pictures, influences of ambient, inclusion of noise (lots of it), more filters, hypnagogic drift
...
Yeah, those songs were too great weren't they?
Daniel Lopatin, James Ferrarro and Macintosh Plus were the big names in 2011 and 2012 when only basement dwellers listened to vaporwave. Then the normies got a hold of and the genre died with them ... just look at the comments for this video:
...
fuck tryhard vaporwave, post beautiful melancholic kino
>a e s t h e t i c
you're a normie faggot kid that needs to go back to plebbit.
manhunter
Fallen Angels always had that vibe for me
American Psycho fits vaporwave more than what you're posting and looking for.
retard
Drive isn't even retro wave
It isn't any wave
Blue Velvet
DARYL
Real Genius
Reminder to check out the Johnny Jewel project that started as the Drive score, it's excellent.
Shit I actually remember when this sort of music was around, can't think what motivated a musician to make this kind of thing, feels like early 80s
>Blue Velvet
vaporwave isn't even a true 80s thing. I want to strangle the kids who use that term.
just check any christopher doyle movie
Just like honey..
...
What did he mean by this?
...
He's right. One of the core characteristics of vaporwave is that it's extremely anachronistic
>isnt even a true 80s thing
What even is this argument? Ok. Just like every single other subgenera that grew out of the preceding couple decades? Clearly 80s synths and aesthetics, elevator muzak and commercialism inform the genre. But no, obviously it didnt exist then as it does now.
Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me
...
That's just Bill Murray
...
a shitty ass millenial meme

What is this movie about?
...
Dawn of the Dead has some thematic relevance, survivors are trapped in a mall and all the zombies / consumers are out to eat them
pretty good video on the topic
A tranny
Seems like they're the ones who influence Sup Forums culture the most
Patrician taste
dougie jones?
you know how rap was invented? dudes using older music from previous generations to make beats (now it's called sampling)
this is what this is. white boys making "new" music, aka slowing down 80s music. it's all part of the remix culture
and why it's popular, because people love the 80s. the older generations did the same thing, only with the 50s (see - literally every director from that era, spielberg, lucas, coppola etc)
Vaporwave is far more early 90s in terms of aesthetic
there's no such a thing as retrowave
synthwave (also known as outrun) is just synth based music, not slowed down. perturbator, carpenter brut, etc
vaporwave is just slowed down music from the 80s
there is also future funk, which is just like vaporwave only it's not slowed down, it's just 80s music "improved" in fl studio. more modern beats etc
Johnny Jewel is beyond based
His songs were extremely well utilized in the new Twin Peaks
Can anyone recommend some movies with an oceangrunge aesthetic?
this film is so underrated, one of Mann's best and it even rivals Silence of the Lambs
the filmmaking of Manhunter is better but the story and performances of SotL are better
Leviathan (2012)
Yeah what the fuck
all shoegaze
