Oh yeah that's a long shot of long shots, but the fact alone that he had green ears isn't why it's a long shot. It's Marty being smart enough to make that kind of fucking connection when he hasn't demonstrated that kind of investigative ability. Yes, he was able to get the taxes and patronage to find that one housekeeper, yes he used his connections to get to that one sheriff who used to be their colleague, but fuck off he did not have the intuition to connect green paint and ears. That's a Rust thing, easy.
