>tfw came up with definitive story arc

Not bad considering I've only been at it for a little over a week. I've got a direction, a general grasp of the world and lore, an ending in mind, a defined protagonist with planned other protagonists, and all that good shit.

Now to take a first jab at the script to refine things, then create a 20 to 30 page bible, and I'll be done with all the heavy lifting minus polishing.

Then the hard part comes: pitching the damn thing to artists in an interest to collab.

Artist here
How long were you thinking it would be?
What can you tell us about it?

The first comic would fall somewhere between 40 to 60 pages, depending on the visual pacing and logistics on the artists' part.

As for your pitch, in a magical post-post-apocalyptic world, different animals wield different elemental magics in the name of worshiping their gods.

A young rebellious wolf wielding shadow magic learns that strange creatures are near the entrance of her pack's sanctuary. When her home is attacked, she escapes with a mysterious talisman, ordered to bring it to the Northern taiga.

Eventually, it would develop into a magical quest with an ensemble cast, each wielding a different magic, discovering the past, their purpose, and eventually, saving the world.

>The first comic would fall somewhere between 40 to 60 pages, depending on the visual pacing and logistics on the artists' part.
By "first comic" do you mean that the shadow wolf has saved the world by page 60? Or is that just the end of the first chapter?

The first option sounds like the most convoluted kind of hell. I can't begin to imagine writing that.

This
>A young rebellious wolf wielding shadow magic learns that strange creatures are near the entrance of her pack's sanctuary. When her home is attacked, she escapes with a mysterious talisman, ordered to bring it to the Northern taiga.

is the first comic, first chapter, estimated first 40 to 60 pages. The next sentence is describing a very, very general overview of how it is going to move forward thematically. Sorry for any confusion.

>A young rebellious wolf wielding shadow magic
sounds gay af

>take on a third webcomic

I can't decide which is the more important question. Why I keep doing this to myself. Or how I'm managing to pull it off.

What kind of total pagecount do you estimate you'd end up at? Assuming there's more than two chapters in total it's a bigger commitment than I can sign up for right now, but I think any artist who does have the time would like to know.

You better believe it, baby.

I can't imagine it going longer than six chapters. So the absolute HELL maximum would be 360 pages long. Take that estimate with the smallest grain of salt you can find, however; until I sit down and define the entire story arc for every single chapter, and get a feel for the script and how it runs, there's no way of really knowing just yet.

On top of that, the creation of these pages would be distributed over a minimum of six years. Depending on how we decided to fund the comic, how successful it is, and a million other factors, would depend on the rate of creation, which makes a hell of a difference. That stuff would be decided between me and the artist, however.

In other words, a lot, but probably in moderate increments, probably stretched over a long period of time, and hopefully enjoyable (and profitable) for the artist, and maybe me too.

Hope that clears things up.

well done.
Yeah man, story arcs are hard. good job.
Good luck getting an artist.
did you seriously?

>Did you seriously?

yup

So, you writing or drawing?
If drawing, why start a new webcomic rather than get more updates on one of your previous ones?

I'm proud of you

Writing and drawing.

I'm updating all three. And reasonably consistently too.

post links

I'd rather stay anonymous, especially as a couple of them are banned on Sup Forums. Go figure.

I didn't get a response since the last thread died, so I'll try again.

I tried to make the backgrounds reflect the dark and angry feelings.
I wanted Mahder, the older lady, to defend Commisan, even though I'm dropping doubt about her abilities. That and I wanted to say that Mahder wasn't meant to be in the story much longer, until the other girl shows up.

Should I be more explicit about what's going on, or is there a way to be subtle and leave it open to the reader? It's obvious to me since I'm writing the story, but I'm not so sure if readers are gonna pick up on my secret things.

if you're western and you're drawing it, it's not banned on Sup Forums
if it's nsfw you can still LINK it

user, it's obviously horse

You should definitely be more explicit in general.

>it's OK to link western porn on Sup Forums

get a load of this newfag

ohhh
shit i'd like to see that.
links of any kind have never been banned, dude.
but if it's horse we can't discuss it and I can understand the desire for anonymity

what's horse?

colorful equines of a friendly nature

>links of any kind have never been banned.

Lies. I've been banned personally, simply for posting links, let alone had the post deleted.

Yes, we've all been banned for things that aren't against the rules. Doesn't make them banned. de facto vs de jure, dude.

Seeing Hino here makes me sad

page ten!

page nine

That just sounds like a bunch of flavor text instead of a plot, m8. No offense.

what would be an example of describing a plot?

How's it

Going everyone?

there is important stuff to protect in the stomach area.

he's a little narrow-shoulders.. dude needs some lats at least. it would masculize him nicely and maybe decrease the fujobait?
then you could make the chest piece bigger, to stretch across the new broader chest, and then it wouldnt be .. the size of his head, which is a bit odd-looking.
are those pauldrons? they look like folded cloth. they also look kind of low, shouldn't they be adding more height to his shoulders?
in general though he's really cool and I like him.

this isnt the same dude, right? because i like his hair and i will shank you if he cuts it off.

I dislike the way the nose is stylized. Looks too symbol-y, like it has no actual form, especially on the drawings of him angling his face up.

now that you mention it, that's true
pippysqueaks, you need to work on the brow ridge and let that be your guide to the nose

Chainmail underneath his clothing, he's layer bro. Plus being a squire who dislike heavy armor and equipment he prefers flexible protection like phantom leather (you dont know what that is) or armor plates to protect parts of him that don't impede his movement.
Shoulders may need to be lengthened but he isn't a buff squire he does have a massive sword he uses a short sword and a buckler shield (when I get to his ark, his fights are gonna get super complicated and fun). His head might be to big? Maybe im not seeing it... might need more sketches of him just to fortify his design mentally... yes those are pauldron but their cover with cloth from the scarf (pure design), but they offer protection he thinks if they enemy does know your arsenal or protection that itself is one of your greatest advantages. He's the size of a average guy, he's not Hercules.
But thanks bro will show the end results in a bit dont worry.
He's hair will stay... for now.
Noted I did notice, the characters I made passed the silhouette test but appearance wise they need some tweaking...

Thanks for the tip guys

>His head might be to big?
that was going to be what I suggested if you said his shoulders look right to you. If he isn't a kid, his head should be smaller. to my eye anyway.
>pauldrons covered with cloth
then they should DEFINITELY be higher. if you draw the outline of his body under that, he'd have a super long neck
and now that I think of it, a THICK neck.
and his belts seem to be hanging quite low, going by the arms giving us the cue of where his ribcage and waist are.. maybe you wanna lengthen the arms.

Good lord man where are the trapizius in that outline that really does make him look odd. thank god this was just a sketch...

Now maybe I'm wrong here, but I can redraw this character again without the clothing just to see if these points are valid cause believe me Imma guy who tends to create characters from thin air before polishing them off for the final cut.

But again he's not gonna be a very buff knight...
>thick neck is a bit overboard... again when that sketch is made then we'll truly see bro. Neck will look differently when uncovered too.

>higher more defined shoulders

Your damn right friend them shoulders look a bit weak so you convinced me there.

It will be done! And to think I thought I had my anatomy on point, damn this must look awful compared to the characters I've seen here.

keep an eye on his chest too. unless he's a starving african child he should have more chest than that. I had to curve it inward to account for his far arm.

neck thickness is a difficult thing to handle in stylization... the fact is, a neck should be relatively flush with the head. if it's not, you run into a lot of problems integrating the head.. but if it IS, you kind of have to stick to realism, or you'll have what looks like too damn much neck. Which is why nearly all styles go with.. less neck.. and just hide it in the hairstyle and shadow
>this must look awful compared to the characters I've seen here.
not at all. In fact it's how good your art is that makes these little aspects stand out. You should feel good. Just keep workin on it

eugh, ive wanted to do a short comic for so long now, but i havent really felt "inspired" or have a strong drive to do so. so i just draw random stuff.

how to get motivation

git gud

your art's pretty cute. it looks really uncontrolled though.. you wanna do some geometric-shape-construction exercises and then try to draw over them with these features? I think we'd all enjoy that.

Or since you're a ToS fan, you could just go replay it and see how that inspires you. or fuck, just listen to the music. get really relaxed and start letting threads connect to each other in your head..

alternatively, give your imagination negative reinforcement: think about shit in entertainment media that pisses you off and vow to make a comic that avoids doing those things.

or if you're really really feeling tired and lazy, do what I did lo these 14 years ago and just come up with a comic simple enough that your low level of drive and penchant for drawing random stuff can still be called a 'comic'

i think im good enough

i want to make 4-panel comics like this, but even with these limited panels, with no colors, i feel so little drive. i guess its like, it doesn't really matter to the world if i do this or not, its just for myself, so its hard.

i wish there was an online group, like on discord or something, that i could join to maybe share my WIPs and get feedback and encouragement. i could do that here maybe, but i dunno

Oh hey, its Klonoa's outfit. I loved his games great puzzle / platformer with an amazingly mysterious ever changing world... the endings made me legit tear up as a kid.

Follow your dreams bro, if you need help art wise dont be afraid to ask, hell I'll even contact privately if you need tips.

Not directly related to comics, but I'm planning on murdering Stjepan Šejić. Should I? Y/N

I hear that, you're having trouble pouring yourself into it without some push. We could do that, but be warned, people have their own opinions and there's going to be discouragement to go with that encouragement, yknow?
even better'n that, Unless I'm mistaken that's Presea Combatir wearing it

>i think im good enough
Of course you'd say that.

No.

son this is america. we have no idea who that is and we don't care.

>No
Why not though? He's a degenerate and I live 4 hours away from his city.

He's that guy that makes comics and a lot seem to have lesbians in them.

Is it possible to make a comic with fantastic fights and amazing story telling?

>Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?

I want to make an online portfolio that will be around for 10 years. What should I use? Blogspot?

Nothing wrong with that.

Stupid question, go away.

because you ain't doin shit and you're just here roleplaying you faggot, fuck off

His artist name is Nebezial. I thought he was semi popular here?

paper

probably anything would be better than nothing. right now i just draw stuff and comics and put it out into the void, getting only silence.

even if i just got a blank "this shit sucks" then i could change directions until it changes

Hey dudes, West Tree Academy of heroes has been on hiatus because I'm working on a much bigger animation for school, so for now it is on a short hiatus.

Enjoy Suzy's new design for now.

well basically i've said most of what I have to say at this point. cute, likeable, interesting style, only the loose nature of the lineart bugs me and then only a bit. it's more that it's going to hold YOU back
I like it, but I can't remember who that is

just give up, none of us are gonna make it anyway. why bother?

Just rubbed one out thanks and good luck man

i'm flattered, thank you!

hopefully it never starts up again and you just phase out of existence

Here's the new Monster Lands page. Don't steal ice cream from dictators, they take it badly.

monster-lands.com/

I forgot how great your coloring is. but that wax cave is coming back to mind now. holy shit that thing was nice. and so creative. other fantasy comics put me so very much to shame sometimes. It's my own fault for being too rigid and uninspired about locales and buildings. all I can focus on is creatures.

Thoughts regarding armor:
1: Why isn't he wearing a helmet? Helmets are literally the most important piece of a suit of armor. It doesn't have to be a big face-obscuring thing, just a metal skull cap or something.

2: That thing projecting out from his sternum looks like it won't stop anything. If anything hits it, it would just slide off and hit him in the face or the stomach.

3: the cloth hugs his body way too tightly for me to buy that he's wearing armor underneath. It looks like he's a pretty slim guy wearing a thin cotton shirt that's tight against his body, rather than the triple layer of padding-mail-overshirt that you want. Also, try giving him a mail collar sticking out from below his shirt so people will think "oh, he must be wearing mail under that thing".

4: Gauntlet design is bad. I think a fingerless version of pic related would fit your idea pretty well.

5: the scales on his chest are too thin and don't go down far enough. Right now the cut is more reminiscent of a crop-top shirt than something that's cut to allow for natural movement. Try taking it down so the sides are basically resting on his hip bones.

...

I just finished my second chapter today.
If you guys get a chance, I'd love to hear some feedback of what you think.

boysland.thewebcomic.com/archive/#ch_95344

I've definitely seen projecting ship-stern chestplates before, but I couldn't tell you if it was something historical or fantasy.
I've also seen gauntlets like his before but i KNOW those are fantasy style. Nausicaa I think.
I've never seen those ribscales before but I freaking like them. You sound savvy, is there anything like that in authentic history? and if so, what would it be called / what would a whole coat look like? I feel like copying it

anyway pips give this person a listen, it is probably carriongirlsguy and he knows his shit. alternatively might be spacepirate, who also knows. and they both have enough perspective to get if you're trying to go fantastic with it, and how to make it more plausible

ooh, lore time. It feels like you only just finished your first chapter
maybe that's because you are apparently updating one chapter at a time.. yeah that seems to be the case. Means now I have to sit and binge instead of enjoying it a page every day, buuut I understand too if that keeps the plot going along more smoothly. Some comics don't work a piece at a time.

well okay that didn't take that long to binge
nice stuff man, getting solid Monster Farm vibes here. Everything's done with just the right amount of seriousness so the adventure doesn't feel like a kiddy ride, but is still fun.
It's interesting because there are still little telltale signs here and there that this is a webcomic I'm reading, not a manga.. little obviously-stabilized lines that should probably be more zigzaggy here, little mild proportion issues there.. I can't wait to see your art grow and become more polished over time, because you have the tone DOWN.

I'm doing a thing and so far, does anybody else in here feel the way I do when I say that drawing ''action'' is much simpler and quicker to do than simple story pages?

I mean, they're just standing and walking around, why is that so time consuming?

in a way. At the same time though, action panels seem to grow and spread until you've done twice as many panels as normal, to represent a tiny few seconds.. whereas a page of talking lets you relax and put a bunch of words in to make a single panel look like it took forever, and load the background up with some detail to facilitate that, unlike action where the background is usually a blur or even absent.
I don't think drawing people standing around takes longer, I think it just stimulates you less, so you work more slowly.

er, ship-bow*

Oh man you've read the first chapter already? Haha that means a lot thank you!

Yeah personally, I don't like the format for page-at-time comics. Not that they don't work, but I think Boys Land would suffer. If I had to, I could concede to smaller amounts of pages at a time.

But we'll see in the future. There's gonna be a lot of changes by time this first arc ends. After it finishes (which should be in another 3 arcs or so). We could change up the formula.

All of this. Thank you

I can agree to that in a way.

with dialogue panels, its easier to keep the action and framing closer to the characters so you dont have to show as much. BUT it can be mundane and you have to focus on keeping characters and environments more on model.

whereas doing action sequences are hella fun and you experiment and push the scenes to maximize solid and fun action. BUT the drawback is knowing your anatomy and have a good enough art skill to sell certain action sequences you're planning out.

It's a toss up haha

I should correct myself
"(which should be in another 3 arcs or so)"
I meant 3 chapters or so.

You could probably get away with breaking it up a little. the prison part, then the cave part, for example. just a thought.
but if you ever do do that, make sure readers checking the site are able to get to the beginning of the new chunk easily.

What are you doing with those gradients and soft rounds? These don't look good. I feel like I'm back in 2000 looking at some wapanese webcomics. I can't help but feel it would look better in solid black and white ala Bone if you're not going to dedicate to shading characters. The gradients are very unflattering.

Yeah I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for the advice. If I can figure out the website better, I'll try to make sure the readers can read the new chunks easier.

Ok I'll look at some Bone comics sometime during the next chapter. I've honestly been uncomfortable with my toning anyway. I originally took inspiration from Oda's style in the earlier volumes of One Piece since they seem finished without any use of screen tones.

Does this page look better without my gradients?

You're right about the bullet-esque breastplate being a thing in at least Dragon Age 2 (and it's based on an exaggeration of a real world principle used in tournament armor(and modern tanks)), but they don't have the problem of having the blow slip to an unarmored area like this guy's. They look like they'd either guide the blow all the way off of the body, or stop it in a heavily armored area.

>You sound savvy, is there anything like that in authentic history?
Nothing exactly like it that I know of, but the idea of mostly-horizontal overlapping lames is used in suits of plated mail or brigandine. The lames there would be fixed to a mail backing or a fabric covering though, rather than being supported by each other.

>it is probably carriongirlsguy
Ahh, ya got me.

man, no way. it's a lot easier to read with the tones. totally keep those.
I don't know what 'soft rounds' means, but I do think gradients are unnecessary in most scenes. This one would be an example to the contrary, since a cave rather demands them. But at the same time, it goes right over the stalactites and thus makes them look flat

neat. I learn so much in these threads

Time to practice my lighting then. That would help for the stalactites anyway.

I think I'll try and ease up on the heavy use of the gradients regardless.

I wonder if by 'soft rounds' that guy meant what I said earlier about the pen obviously having the stabilizer on.. how everything's kind of round-edged when some things should have sharp points. that can be tough when you're not used to fixing it as you go.

Looks better with no gradients than with them. Your mind fills in the blanks. Pic related takes a little more time and looks a lot better. This is because the gray of the gradient becomes the most contrasting color and draws the eye away from the characters (who are all white) and the border (also white).

Update on "TWO GIRLS ONE COMIC" art.

Pangari head chart is pretty much done, made the model a croquis so I make different fashions for her.

SFW brabie body

I have a lot of thumbnails to scan, I decided on going through with the remakes. Not mainly because of the art of the original, but because the story is just everywhere and confusing. I'm not gonna focus hard on super quality, but I think I can get everything completed in a good time, and even maybe still work on new up to date stuff

Crap I hope the writer is ok with me posting this.

Ideas for Pangari

>a young wolf wielding shadow magic

I'm perfectly fine with it, don't worry.
Feel free to post WIPs of pages here, too.

I like the ideas here, but it seems like a lot of it depends on fine detail that would be hard to implement when your lines are as thick as

It should be able to work....and I can just make the pen smaller.

Just posting more art to make people like me.

Bump.
