Though this is the first election cycle that I have personally been paying attention to, mainly because this is the first General Election that I am able to vote in. What I have been finding more and more during this election is trying to paint both candidates, as well as their supporters, in the same category as all of the other supporters. I have been following this election since around November and find something extremely interesting. If you look at some of the polls during the Primaries and during the General Election, at times they do not even release the methodology for their poll. As you mentioned, there are "No graphs, no hard data, no citations". Without this information, there is no way to know where these participants were surveyed, the age of the participants, or where they fall on the political spectrum.
A large issue with this study and a lot of studies, in general, are how you word the questions. If the individual giving the survey asks a question in a certain manner, the person giving the survey is more likely to give the answer that they wish. In my personal opinion, I believe that this survey was intended for Hillary Clinton supporters. If a supporter for each candidate read this article, I would assume that they would each have a very different view. The Donald Trump supporter would most likely say something like, "I am not an Authoritarian. I simply like his views"; while a Hillary Clinton supporter would say something along the lines of "All of his supporters are this. That's why they are voting for him." These type of surveys help validate the same conceived that an individual already has about the particular candidate, whether or not that is positive or negative.
