I do try to avoid bringing it up in conversation but when I do (and this is usually in the classroom) I preface with "Fascism as we know it means..."

I've read academic publications where people try to argue Japanese popular music in the 70s was bordering on fascism because it focused on nostalgia and the pre-war days.
