it's good but not that good, a lot of the photography is ugly and it's a little sparse on action

soundtrack and audio effects don't get enough love imo, really got the heart pumping and set the perfect mood.

Because it's Judge Dredd.

Because it was Anderson: the movie feat. Dredd.

Seriously, Dredd isn't supposed to be the relatable audience insert character and most movies only spend time with the MC so if audiences don't relate then they have a hard time liking the story so shit gets changed because focus groups.

DREDD had a story to tell and didn't dumb shit down to do it, like stuff with that deception bit at the end where andy susses out a faker instantly and just drops em. That was great, it didn't need a ten minute intro exposition.

Also they kept their scope within reason. I don't need huge sweeping shots of CGI environments, if you setup the world is shit and now we're in a tower block sure. let's do it.

pretty much this. dredd as a character isn't meant to be a main character or a protagonist because the character is absolute: he has no arc. by inserting anderson as an anchor for the audience they have a means to tell a great story while still maintaining the integrity of the character of dredd.

other than that, the film was narrow in scope, brutal and uncompromising, and stayed on the right side of the trope/cliche divide. didn't get too preachy or bloated and didn't insult the audience's intelligence or try their patience.

good sets, good effects, and played it straight with the acting. solid flick, too bad we don't get a sequel.

Because everything else is shit

That new series better keep Karl Urban and raise the budget a bit.

What would you say is Dredd's thematic purpose then in relation to Anderson -- excusing the fact that the film is based on HIS comic and world.

I realize that might not make enough sense.. In other words, what is the purpose of an absolute and unchanging character like Dredd in relation to Anderson and her purpose as you said?

Because that pajeet produced it, get him on everything

>Simple story
>Good actors
>Great action
>Cops stuck in a tower and have to escape

mentor/student relationship trope. gets played with and subverted in different ways to keep things interesting. their different personalities play off of each other and you learn things about each of them by the way they interact with each other. you learn about dredd through how he deals with anderson and anderson's character arc is driven by how dredd influences her. she becomes more like him and less like her naive, eager to please former self as the movie goes on.

characters don't have to have an arc to be engaging, but characters without arcs should not be the main protagonist. a similar character relationship to anderson/dredd would be luke/obi wan in ANH.

>tfw no Dredd movie where judges are portrayed as terminator-like villains

Because it was reddit

life is reddit

Pretty much, yeah. Jake Gyllenhaal is a reddit actor.

dredd represents justice: uncompromising, relentless, brutal, fair, wise and unbiased. complete totality. everything in black and white. he's a human embodiment of law.

anderson is the opposite, uncertain, frail, hesitant, sympathetic, naive, biased. she has the heart to pursue justice but because of her inexperience sees everything in shades of grey. the progression of her character is her losing innocence and the separation of grey into black and white; she becomes more like dredd throughout her ordeal.

Bike. Crowd Control

Pan. Nice and hot.

Read the Dredd story called America

I actually really enjoyed that about the film, I'm used to seeing the uncompromising characters becoming more compassionate, so to see the opposite, and it not feel like a cheap "flip" on the theme, was nice.

Would you have passed her?

You gotta !!!! It’s the crime not to (*¯艸¯)

>that face
