This is actually THE massive flaw with capitalism.
You can apply this to literally every facet of our economy.
Initially company's sold their good based on quality, but now, they have realized that if their product is in too high a standard, then they will not sell more of those products unless the product in question is consumed upon use to begin with.
Tools, lawnmowers, cars, these all used to last decades, and now cars break down in maybe half a decade, one if your lucky.
The sheer amount of wastefulness of this is unfathomable. And it's an abusive system.
This is why healthcare should be socialized
I think it had more to do with planned obsolescence.
Why build a phone to last for 10 years when the majority are already going to buy a new one every year. You can out more into R&D for new features or even advertising and use parts that won't lay as long. Changing the market to become so solidly like that is considered one of Steve Jobs greatest feats at Apple.
Or they could just charge $5 million per pill for it. Capitalism is about profit, not bills.
I still don't believe that we have all this crazy technology but they still can't make batteries or bulbs that last more than a fucking week.
As an engineer, this problem is perpetuated by the consumer. We would make your washing machine last 30 years, but A) you wouldn't pay $1000 for a machine to use and B) you would need an upgrade in 5 years because you move, or you want more efficiency or you're redecorating.
Why make a long lasting product if you only need it to work for you for 5-8 years?
Quit having a need for convenience
The same is true of any economic model. A completely state-run system would still string the population along to increase their power over them.
lmao if you cured cancer you'd make more money than you could ever spend, even if you release it for free
Because if you have the cure you beat other companies to market.
>why would you design a car when you can sell people horses and hay their whole lives?
Except that's just retarded, If I have the cure for cancer, I'll sell it. and people will buy it. And big pharma will trip over themselves to make better and cheaper versions because they will want that green too.
It's not an issue with capitalism really, but rather the jews that abuse the patent system and monopolize over any potential competition. Capitalism's greatest achievement was during the mid-century, when Ford HAD to make the Mustang, or go bankrupt. Now they rely so much on the government that they can make 10,000 a year and sell them for twice the actual cost it takes to make it and pay the workers involved, and not have any risk. Same for Chevy.
Coke and Pepsi have this issue too.
>invent the cure for cancer
>can cure it in a day
>charge exorberant prices but cheaper than competitors
>every other company goes out of business if they don't adapt and offer a better deal
:^)
In a totally free market, competitor would be able to develop a cure for the sole purpose of undercutting your entire business and making a huge profit.
You could sell the pill for the same costs as a 5 year course of treatment, and people would pay it. The company trying to milk people would be fucked, and would have to lower the costs of treatment to remain competitive or risk losing clients to the cure permanently.
Free market works, but not with protectionist laws.
Why did they cure polio then?
At least they dont have massive famines because of stealing all the farmer's lands.
> thinking there is a "cure" that just makes cancer go away and never come back
> not knowing how cancer works
>make drug that can cure cancer in a day
>company that only cures it over a lifetime instantly goes out of business
Wow that was hard
Capitalism and Communism are both Jewish pieces of fucking shit, the only viable alternative is National Socialism.
also
>b-but cars break down
why do you think people buy Hondas and Toyotas? Why does a 10 year old Honda Accord with 250k miles still sell for $3400 when a comparable Chevy is half that?
viruses engineered to target cancer cells.
They'd need to be custom engineered to each specific case of cancer, but it would indeed cure cancer.
It would also costs millions for each person.
>Cars can be reused whenever needed over the course of many years
>Cancer cure is one time use and no longer necessary
Stop being retarded.
antibiotics cure at lot of diseases today though, like syphilis
No other company has it though. And even if they have it, they can't sell it because the creators have all rights over it.
In the US, the government has a patent system, a novel idea, protects inventors and businesses, but stifles competition, and creates monopolies on certain technologies, where you will have to pay original inventors of a cellphone battery to use it in a new model, or create a car using an engine invented by another company.
Basically, the patent system removes competition, but it's absence fucks over little guys.
We're fucked either way unless we completely rewrite the entire process.
Health care, energy/water and banks.
There is literally no reason why these fields are allowed to have so much profit.
And you can see that they are never trying to improve.
Holy shit, this.
>baseing your economics off of family goy
Kill yourself. Dumb ass.
Then the government will be doing the same thing
Typical libtard who can't think past "The government will be trustworthy"
>I come out with the cure for cancer
>I suddenly can make billions and steal away all the money away from other companies
>I have no incentive to do this
This is why communist are stupid
So in essence capitalism isn't the issue, but crony capitalism? Honestly not sure what the solution is to your patent issue.
Get "silenced" by big pharma. Never heard from again. In the end, the government is just an advanced coropration and the coropration is a low teir tyrant. It all depends on whose running the show, not nessecairly the show itself.
Big government and corporate lobbyists were a mistake. Socialists have to leave
Because governments made up of corrupt people are even better, right?
This is just a fundamental problem with humanity that nobody seems to want to address. We're an incredibly flawed species, and it's hard to think about that when being said species has been your entire existence.
the patent system does not prevent you from independently developing a medicine.
Additionally, patents are public knowledge. If a company patented the cure for a virulent disease and refused to release it, the public would never stand for it, and the company would lose public trust AND all their customers.
Just look at that guy who jacked up the price of a T. Gondii treatment, and promptly lost huge amounts of stock in his company and had like 6 competitors release alternative drugs to undercut him.
So your solution is to grant the people causing the problem even more power. That seems like it will backfire, the govt is in collusion with the corporations to enable this sort of thing, with even more power they will abuse it further. Unless they magically can grow a concious over night.
>literally have the monopoly on the cure for the plague of the 20th century until the stature on your patent runs out.
>Make more money then you can ever dream of selling it to the world.
yes getting a monopoly on something every country would kill for is totally not the way to go there.
It's not real capitalism
It is not possible to have a cure for cancer until we have total control over the human genome. Only capitalist countries are working towards that. Cancer is a stupid example, since it would be impossible to develop a "cure" but if it were possible capitalism would bring it about as a function of competition.
The guy who found the cure gave it away. He also donated his nobel prize money. Not a good example to defend capitalism, user.
>So in essence capitalism isn't the issue, but crony capitalism?
Very much so.
>Solution
Hard to say.
All sound like valid problems.
Who's going to pay that much, dipshit? 0 cutomers = 0 profit
>This is actually THE massive flaw with capitalism.
Wrong. This is only a problem when the government gets involved.
Let's use cancer for an example.
CompanyA fights cancer, they charge you an arm and a leg (sometimes literally) and help you get rid of your cancer, they make billions of dollars a year.
CompanyB comes along, fuck they found a cure. A simple injection directly into the cancer cells that costs $100 to make and administer (charged for $100,000+ of course goy), CompanyB makes billions, CompanyA is fucked.
CompanyB has a reason to cure cancer, CompanyA doesn't.
In our current society CompanyA just bribes some government guy to place so much red tape CompanyB will either never get the cure off the ground or it will take so long CompanyA makes a fuckton of profit in the meantime.
Because if the market was free someone could just sell the cure to undercut your "treatment"
But the medical economy is far far far free.
>Be competitor
>Have actual cure
>Put out on the market, stealing all the customers of the company trying to milk patients
Capitalism wins again you economically illiterate commies.
Those are industries that are the most heavily regulated and protected by governments is Western countries.
That's why they are so screwed up. No competition. Too many regulations and red tape preclude new competition.
Free market would indeed fix it.
Charity comes much easier when you have an abundance of goods and services. And the system that does that better than anything else so far is capitalism.
came here to post this
one of the first lightbulbs ever made is literally still working.
was it corporations holding back the internet from the general public?
Planned obsolescence, goy. Governments and corporations working together to undercut competitors and the free market.
Good points, seriously made me think.
Also a good point, fucking shit made me extra think.
Even further, who is to say that the cancer doesn't occur again? Not necessarily a relapse.
Cancer is a very broad statement. Cancer can form if exposure to various conditions and elements occurs, or if general health, and genetics allows for Cancer to occur.
Some people may only ever need the cure once. Some may need it more than once.
>put massive regulations on drug development
>takes millions of dollars and 15 years to get a drug out in the market
>DUDE, FREE MARKETS R DUM
>Family Guy
Instantly dropped.
Yes, since they did not invest in it's creation at first.
I don't think you can call someone retarded when your opening image is from Family Guy.
It's true, but
>Family Guy
>what are patents?
This is bullshit. The richest people WANT a cancer cure because cancer doesn't discriminate. We can all get wake up one day with cancer and rich people want the cure for it so that they don't have to go through that hell.
To be fair, patents etc. are an invention of the government.
Patents are the only problem here. Most regulations are basically written by drug companies anyway these days.
Socialized institutions are destined for stagnation. What is the motive for improvement if you have no competition and bare-minimum funding?
Also not every breakthrough gets a patent, didn't the guy who cured polio hand it out for free?
mhm But whos corrupting them? THE CORPORATIONS
Whoever discovers a cure for cancer will become the richest individual of all time.
>Socialized institutions are destined for stagnation
So are capitalist institutions.
>implying one hasn't already been found
You don't see Rothschilds or that Rockefeller fellow getting cancer. That's not a coincidence.
I agree. Its still not a good individual example in context.
we can see how catastrophically fucked up Slick Willy and HRC is to see that whatever miracle cures exist have yuuuuuge limits on them
>This is why healthcare should be socialized
It should be purged first.
So let me get this straight.
You believe Capitalists have the patience to milk a lifetime of medical bills out of a individual..... But that they can't be trusted for sustainable forestry practices, or other environmental long game proposals?
You're retarded. A cure for cancer would make any single big pharma, so fucking rich, they'd have a monopoly on medical research for the next 100 years.
Companies only react to what the consumer buys.
As for tools, you'd be surprised, they have improve a lot in the last decade. Even Horrid Freight stuff isn't tea bag anymore.
Seriously dude?
I don't imagine them resenting the massive amounts of money that fly their way. Not even sure if I would either.
Wake up faggot.
>cure cancer
>literally have an exclusive 20 year patent on the CURE TO CANCER
>possibly longer if nobody else can reverse engineer the manufacturing process well enough to create a similarly effective generic after the patent expires (you're not required to reveal your manufacturing process)
You'd make more money off this in a year than you would off a hundred years of selling chemo drugs.
Also, anyone who talks about "curing" cancer this way is a fucking retard who doesn't understand the basis of cancer or how drugs function.
People need to stop looking at economic systems as ends in themselves. Are capitalism/communism etc. really that important as institutions? Like, is capitalism so important that you should ignore people getting melted unnoticed into meat grinders? Is socialism so important that you should ignore mass starvation?
If you do act in that way then there isn't really much anyone can do to change your mind except that you move your aim.
Instead it's important to look at what the aim of these systems is supposed to be. They are supposed to create prosperity and strength for the people right? People have forgotten the very core of what arguments about the economy are posed for.
Economic systems are tools that are supposed to work for the benefit of people. What is not beneficial is being dogmatic about them, especially when economics study isn't even a particularly hard fact based area of study.
>Who's going to pay that much, dipshit? 0 cutomers = 0 profit
You see it all the time where a pill that was being sold for spare change gets on medicare and the price hikes 3000%.
Which is a problem because
A) Customers are mindless
B)Capitalism is broken
C)Govt overreach
D)Other
Hey user, this might be a huge shocker to you, but guess what? There are many, many, many countries in the world with socialized medicine, and not a single one of them has discovered the cure for cancer. In fact, The USA has made more contributions towards the curing of cancer than any other country on the planet.
And how would you propose we fix this Vladof? Make it so that government forces companies to build the best products they can? How would you even enforce that? Like Ford comes out with a car and then if the test drivers don't rate it 10/10 they have to trash it and make a new one?
youtube.com
What a tricky jew.
this, and because it (the truth) appeared on TV, on an animated series, which is known for its gore and bullshit...
will be ignored and dismissed.
it's easy to ignore or discredit someone, even if they're telling you the truth, if you never liked or respected them in the first place.
It's not capitalisms fault people with cancer can't fix themselves.
There would have to be a massive conspiracy against the cure for cancer.
The first person to find the cure for cancer and patents it for the market will completely dominate the market. All the symptom treatments would collapse as everyone give their money to the group that developed the cure for cancer.
Fuck off
Capitalism is fueled by consumer choice.
Everyone knows where cheap clothes are but they still buy them, and everyone knows they will release a new phone next year and they still buy one
You can whine and bitch all you want, but it's got nothing to do with the free market if people are going to spend poorly - if anything it's due to a shitty upbringing
Moreover, you can apply how 'wasteful' capitalism has been, but compare the likes of phones and computers in 2016 and 2006. There has been a HUGE technological leap and will get better and better. In the meantime, you can whine and bitch about how giving a massive government limitless violence and power would fix everything
You socialists make me sick to my stomach, 100% braindead
Your statement is so simple-minded that it will take decades before you realize how it's wrong.
Patents are public. So if a cure exists under patent people would be able to know what the cure is.
this is most laughable argument in existance.
Cancers are not ONE cancer. There has never been a do all drug, therapy, or surgery for multiple ailments.
It cost hundreds of millions of dollars to develop a working drug for anything, how much do you think it's going to take to develop advanced, DNA- specific targeting and godlike manipulation of specific genome targeting? you'd literally need to rewrite someones DNA and thats excluding the vast and nearly infinite differences in cancerous ailments.
I swear these ideas are perpetuated just to create an ideology of "difference" in common sense. The guys on the top are only as greedy as you are.
you're a fucking idiot. Cars today last far longer than they used to. It used to be you had to do constant maintenance on cars to keep them working and at 100k miles you had to rebuild the engine. This is why gas stations used to have attached garages; you had to do maintenance on them once a month or more.Modern cars will all last at least 200k miles, even more if you take good care of it. The '97 ford I used to drive still gets my neighbor to work everyday even at 250k miles, and the 1990 oldmobile I had after that I donated at 210k miles. It still ran just fine. If your cars are dying after five years then you aren't taking care of them.
Is "the family guy shrug" acknowledged as a thing? Because it's fucking annoying.
All it takes is one breakthrough and the whole thing comes crumbling down which is why OPs image is misleading. Of course finding the cure for cancer isn't easy. But there are many universities all over the world working on it. There is nothing stopping all of them from not looking for it.
Until then what we have now is the best we have.
This is exactly why OP is a massive faggot.
>There would have to be a massive conspiracy
Have you heard of Monsanto?
They make many substances, from agent orange to roundup. One of their greatest accomplishments is roundup ready corn.
>How is corn an accomplishment?
>Roundup ready corn is a living thing.
>Roundup ready corn can mate with "standard" corn
"Standard" corn is what we eat. Known as non gmo
>"Standard" corn that has been pollinated by roundup ready corn is now, "legally", property of Monsanto.
>Monsanto can, has, and will sue for damages against anyone who "possesses" their (((intellectual property)))
>Trans Pacific Partnership extends Monsanto's reach to any country involved in the agreement.
Conspiracies don't exits lol
>Only one person can ever find the cure for cancer
In a actual, pure capitalist society where government cannot protect shitty business practices, other companies could also come up with their own cures and sell it for billions to compete. As long as government is big enough for big pharmacy companies to go in and have enough power to change laws in their favor, they will do it. Stop giving the government so much power and allow these companies to compete freely.
That's messed up f@m
The treatment industry takes a lot of infrastructure. The curing industry does not. Someone will undercut the treatment industry by offering cures, and society will advance.
Having a poor understanding of the free market is not a flaw of the free market. It's a flaw of yourself.
I bet you believe in the Mandela Effect, too.
Or alternatively
CompanyA approaches CompanyB with offer of susbstantial amounts of money, buying the rights to the patent and distribution of CompanyB's cure.
CompanyA remains with a monopoly which continues to make more money while CompanyB sells out and goes home
YouJew Monsanto, its fucking mad man.
I didn't even mention the US Senators or House Members who have worked for Monsanto before.
This is known to be incorrect. The farmers who have claimed to have been sued in this way have all been proven to have purposefully grown monsanto seeds without paying royalties. Stop buying into the lies told by leftist Greenpeace faggots. GMO crops have been a big boon to agriculture and anyone who says otherwise is a stupid luddite.
>government outlaws competition and free markets in healthcare, forming an oligarchy of waste
>libtard complains about the wastefulness of the system while completing ignoring government's role in it
Idiots, the health care system is like 80% controlled by the government, at least...
That's literally what he was talking about retard
