Bojack Horseman S4 was fucking god tier. This scene is absolute kino. God bless this show
What a fantastic way to end that episode.
It's probably my favorite episode of the entire series. Incredibly dark but relateable at the same time. Probably the first time the show really made you understand what drives bojack's self destructiveness.
Yeah, that was one of my favorite episodes.
Good season, but the diane episode was complete shit.
Which episode was that again?
Bullshit.
When it was revealed the entire future scenario was a made-up delusion, it saved the episode for me.
Fuck it, call me reddit if you want to, but this show actually reaches the emotional and philosophical heights that Rick and Morty only grasps at.
you have a dedicated board to talk about cartoons you know
I don't think you're reddit at all and I really agree with you completely. The reason being that Bojack has real, relateable, well written characters with interesting backgrounds and their own motivation and personality. Rick and Morty is all about telling random sci fi ish stories with the occasional shock value injection or obtuse family drama that comes out of nowhere and suddenly treats the show's 1 dimensional cardboard cut out characters like they're real people.
Season 4 made me realize something about this show.
I hate fucking everyone. Every single character in this is dreadful besides Bojack and Mr Peanutbutter. I liked Todd at first but the guy has no spine. Bojack fucked his love interest and after a season he just sort of shrugs it off.
Aw come on, how can you hate Princess Carolyn? Diane and Bojack are both shit people and Todd's just a shit character in general, but PC is just a really vulnerable woman who's truly caring and nurturing but just keeps getting handed bad straws in life.
>When it was revealed the entire future scenario was a made-up delusion, it saved the episode for me.
I think you're confusing Diane with Princess Caroline.
Sup Forums is for kid's cartoons, not adult cartoons.
mods have already established this.
The one with the guns
The Diane and Todd episodes are the worst, Bojack and PC are great though
Er...yes. Yes, I was.
Oh yeah that episode was fucking annoying. When Diane says like
>I can't believe america hates women more than they love guns
I wanted to fucking kick the dumb feminist retard writer who wrote that line. It's not one of those self aware self jabs at diane's hypocritical feminist views, it's just stated outright and nobody bats an eye. AWFUL writing. I wish they would take a step back from politics next season because it got really old.
Todd still isn't friends with Bojack nor living with him. And he didn't care about his "love interest", because he's an asexual manchild.
does the horseguy have a horse sized-penis and is this an important plot point in the show? otherwise im not interested
Never said explicitly and also it's not relevant to the plot because he can get more pussy than he could ever care for.
Princess Carolyn is a fucking monster. Pic related was extremely supportive and she just dumps him over a petty argument.
Diane is a cunt and Mr. Peanutbutter deserves better.
thx for saving me some time m8
She was having a total breakdown, her agency is collapsing, she lost trust in her faithful assistant, she miscarried, her childhood heirloom turned out to be fake, and she was desperately trying to cling on to whatever pride she had left. She's not a monster for doing that and I reckon they could still get back together if PC tried her best to fix the damage she caused.
>being this cynical is supposed to be philosophical
>cynical
What's cynical here?
This
>I liked Todd at first but the guy has no spine. Bojack fucked his love interest and after a season he just sort of shrugs it off.
>cuts off contact with him even after he returns
>literally tells him to his face that not seeing him is going well for him
>spineless
The issue, if anything, is that the writers just stopped trying with him in season 4. His clown dentist stuff was just kinda there and while some of the jokes worked many fell flat. His "doing random shit" shtick was in the foreground for far too long this season and while each previous season was subtly developing him into an actual character rather than the one-note sidekick he was created as, this season he was pretty much just that. Oh and also asexual I guess? Not that the asexual stuff didn't work it just really isn't enough to make him anything more than Bojack's wacky former roommate
>she miscarried
for the fifth goddamn time holy shit bitch may be crazy but she has good reason for it
Mate when your family is full of insanely fertile cats who have 12 kids and you can't have one, when society has it drilled into your head that your primary function as a person is to have kids, and when you're running out of time and you finally realize that that vision you've had of having YOUR kid is never going to come to fruition, you're going to go through some dark shit.
I mean I agree with you completely, did you misread my point or were you just agreeing further?
i'm assuming the former because the latter isn't very common here
I misread what you said, so the former.
How long before this show gets good? Ive watched like 4 forgettable episodes so far that were a real chore to get through.
at the end, diane is still the same bitch.
poor mr. peanut butter
about five or six episodes in, just get through the first few
I never had that problem on my end but from what I gather the first half of the first season starts off slow, but the second half is much better. I can't tell you when it'll hit you, but at around the end of the second season it started becoming one of my favorite shows ever.
>implying Todd being asexual isn't a coping mechanism because Bojack fucked the only girl that ever looked in his general direction
>implying that being "asexual" is even a real thing
Did you forget the fact that he didn't want to fuck that girl in the first place when they were a couple back in 2007? Todd's been asexual ever since we see him.
I sure am glad that Bojack has a cult following and isn't as popular or memed about as rick and morty. This show is great and having it get popular would make talking about it next to impossible. It's strange how this cartoon about talking animals managed to have more of an emotional impact on me than most live action shows I've seen this year, but I guess that's kind of the point of the character design in Bojack.
Dark, good shit, I really recommend everyone who sees this thread to give it a genuine shot and push through the slow start. It's a wild, sad, touching ride.
He was probably just nervous since asexuality isn't actually a real thing
just started the season 1 yesterday: 10 episodes in, and it's still kinda boring... does it get better?!
> It's strange how this cartoon about talking animals managed to have more of an emotional impact on me than most live action shows I've seen this year, but I guess that's kind of the point of the character design in Bojack.
The dark stuff only works BECAUSE they're talking animals. You need the humor and in a live action show it would be way more difficult to balance if out since you'd need to be more explicit about it. In Bojack's world you can have animal gags in the background that don't take up any time but still balance out the depressing parts. Also, the darker parts like his mom getting a lobotomy would be way harder to watch if you were looking at an actual human.
We feel less empathy for a cartoon character and therefore they can go further. It's the same reason that Peter Griffin can make horribly racist jokes that a real-life sitcom counterpart of his could never get away with.
mr. peanut butter sucks too though, especially as a significant other. he only gives a shit about other people for his own sake, if that makes any sense. he doesn't care about diane any further than he needs to to feel good about himself, and doesn't even seem to really know her despite dating her for so long. diane's way worse though.
Honestly, I'm torn between this show.
On one hand the drama in this show really hits close to home. You can tell the writers really do understand issues like depression and struggling. It's the only reason I even watch this show to be honest.
On the other hand this show promotes awful and disgusting ideologies. "Always believe rape victims!" and "Men literally never have to fear for their lives! Only women!"
Call me Sup Forums all you want, but this show really does promote horrible ideologies. Don't even get me started on the "the troops aren't heroes" nonsense. It doesn't matter if you're kind of an asshole in civilian life, the fact that you're willing to lay your life on the line to protect the west automatically means you're a hero. You can be a huge piece of shit but if you're in the army you are literally a fucking hero.
Them implying that everyone has a loud criticizing voice in them that never goes away.
That's a huge stretch. By that logic everyone is a terrible person who is only doing things for their own sake.
on episode 2, so fucking awful I can't even get through it. its so painful does it get better?
how is it hollyhock has the diamond pattern if butterscotch is her father. we've only seen the diamond pattern on beatrice's side of the family
This fucking scene made me so sad that I called my mom and told her I loved her.
What scene got to you the most, Sup Forums?
agreed, I can' hardly sit through this piece of shit
it gets better. i had to ask my friend if it got any better during the first episode too. starts off weak but there are some good episodes towards the middle.
First season or 4rth?
If first, yeah, 5 first episodes sucks ass. Then it takes a Huge writing direction to Kinotown
Not everyone. It's heavily hinted that Bojack's depression is heretical. The whole season involves his grandmother, his mother, and his daughter all suffering from the same signs of depression.
He thought it was because of his success and the film business, but it's just him. He would be depressed if he was rich or poor.
Wait, that's not normal?
>Just tell me I'm a good person
Poor Bojack. He really is a piece of shit but at least he knows it.
They aren't heroes. They signed on, and they're doing their duty. The deserve respect. Not to be called heroes.
You are throwing your life on the line to defend your country. You are automatically a hero by definition.
I liked this show alot, 4th season seems like its written by film school freshman
This so fucking normal, it's unbelievable. This isn't real. This isn't good wrting. This is for normies who want to larp as depressives. Christ that was hard to watch...so trite.
>You are throwing your life on the line to defend your country.
Most of those guys need a job, want to become U.S. citizens, have nothing else going on, or they want to defend the country. I wouldn't even call the last guy a hero, but I'd fucking respect him utterly and completely. Just the same you don't call firefighters heroes. They have a job to do, a duty to fulfill. That duty incidentally may require them to defend their country. They may die. They deserve respect. Not heroes. Idolatry makes you lose sight of the person that they really are. I'm not saying they may be a monster, or a rapist, or whatever. Just treat them as human beings.
>My depression is the only real depression
>Season 1 had Bojack's old friend dying. It also had drama between him and Diane
>Season 2 had Bojack stooping to a new low and trying to fuck his friends daughter
>Season 3 had Sarah Lynn dying in Bojack's arms from an overdose.
>Season 4 had...uhh...a weird Lobotomy? And Bojack's daughter Overdosed. But she's fine though...
God, season 4 sucked ass.
Just about every scene in which he realizes what a piece of shit he is and how much of an alcoholic
The ending of Time“s Arrow hit hardest I think
That even though he really despises his mother, for good reasons at that, he can't bring himself to be a monster when she realizes he is Bojack and she is afraid of her whereabouts, and so he lies to her about being in Michigan and all
It doesn't matter what reason they're doing it, if you're putting your life on the line to save people then you are a hero.
In your eyes what does somebody have to do to be considered a hero?
>My life's a little difficult sometimes so I'm gonna go ahead and use that as an excuse to indulge in some self flagilation.
>I have no real idea what faulty neurochemistry actually entails or feels like, but brooding allows me to delude myself into thinking I'm a deeper person than I actually am so I'll keep up the act.
Fuck off. Bojack is ultimately very normal - painfully so. That's why normals love this show. It's confirmation bias (bs) for their romanticized neuroses.
>Heretical
I assume you mean hereditary, but is it really hinted?
I might very well have missed it, but when is it hinted that his depression is something that runs in the family
Nobody said it was supposed to be philosophical.
>My depression is the only real depression
>My life's a little difficult
Stopped reading. Clearly didn't watch the show. Or you probably did and you're just downplaying the drama to seem "mature".
Watch Beatrice's episode, he mentions that his mother has a diamond like hers when they meet.
>It doesn't matter what reason they're doing it
It does. Because you'd rather erase the person they are label them as a concept than respect them as a person.
>In your eyes what does somebody have to do to be considered a hero?
I don't think like that. I hold a great respect for people who put their lives on the line. I don't force idolatry onto them.
Good thing he ended up leaving her in the worst room of that nursing home at the end anyway right?
But isn't a hero someone you hold great respect for?
Mr. Peanutbutter is selfish but puts on a kind face. Hes far worse
Season 4 was bad and everything in it was bad, every character's story. Either it was new and bland, or it was retreading old ground more poorly.
I decided to rewatch some of season 1 and it's incredible how much better the show is. There's a Princess Carolyn episode there where she has a hard day too only it's more interesting, especially the bittersweet balance between her failures/sufferings and her successes. Then there's the Diane episode where they go see her family and that was miles above the Diane episodes this season. Seems like everything this time went in a bland direction, like the writing talent has been depleted or something.
Aroubd episode 6. And on rewatches the first 5 get really better once you understand the characters
I hold great respect for my father but I wouldn't say he's a hero. I hold great respect for those young men, now old and many homeless, who went off to fight in Vietnam but I wouldn't call them heroes for killing gooks in the bush.
Even though she is senile, she does deserves it
She really was a terrible, terrible mother
>I'm punishing you for being alive
That's just horrible to say to your child
He's not selfish at all.
Agreed. Hes extremely selfish. Look at the hotel scene, Diane asks him not to take too long so she can surprise him romantically and he comes in so late shes passed out
Dumb show for pseudo adults.
my biggest problem with this show is how unrealistic the abuse that Bojack received is.
I had parents that resented me. They never would flat out say stuff like that. Most parents that resent their children usually try their best to ignore them altogether instead of just flat out insulting them.
I understand that it's a comedy, but if they really wanted this show to be dark then they should have made it so Bojacks mother ignored him most of his life and THEN tell him she hates him when he grows up.
No you arent. A hero would be if they jumped on a grenade or saved a baby. Not just lol im a soldier
He really is
So who is Henrietta?
He rewards people with grandiose gestures in the most superficial way. He's motivated purely by a need to make people like him in a way far more successful and unbalanced than Bojack, he doesn't do things out of sincere kindness. He's a fairweather friend that tries to coerce others into feeling better rather than trying to understand them, and because he's "so nice" nobody ever calls him on this shit. He's a perennial sycophant.
>be Beatrice
>My mother had a lobotomy after suffering from severe grief from losing her son
>end up marrying some stud who ends up being a bum
>he ends up cheating on me and getting the maid pregnant
>Try to raise a son
>He turns out to be a loser who doesn't want to live a successful life. Instead he wants to be a part of some mediocre TV show.
>realize everyone has failed me
>slowly dementia is creeping up on me
>I am slowly forgetting the world around me
>but apparently I'm the bad guy
>implying there's a difference
Yes, I am.
Show peaked here. Didn't really care for Bojack's daughter, and while season 4 was still pretty decent I felt like it wasn't as funny or emotionally hitting as season 2 and 3.
I can see them either go very dark next season or make it even lighter and end it the next season.
I actually really liked Bojacks daughter. They could have taken the lazy route and just made her a reflection of Bojack. She has her own personality and is the exact opposite of Bojack.
Beatrice had it very rough, no denying that, but does that give her a reason to be that horrid to Bojack as a child
You're right, it's strange, but I guess they needed to show how much of a shitty parent she was in the short amount of time they had for her
Yeah, Hollyhock is done really well
Loved the scene when Bojack went on and on about all he quirks in the hospital
Wait, I'm confused. How did Hollyhock overdose again? I know they mentioned something about the coffee that Beatrice made but what exactly did she put in the coffee and Why? Was it just because of her dementia?
his mother was putting speed in the coffee
To give it some credit, I watched up until the end of season 3 so obviously it's not totally irredeemable trash. Certainly a step up from R&M.
However it's pinnacle of babies first "complex adult themes" cartoon/show. The animation is utter dogshit and the show itself is riddled with unlikeable characters and pointless filler.
Okay what other cartoon has even more complex themes?
Where did she get the speed? Was it Bojacks?
Nah my best friend's parents were almost exactly like that and I was a firsthand witness to that kind of shit. It was CONSTANT until he moved out at 18. Every scene with Beatrice and Butterscotch hit way too close to him for me because I saw that kind of depraved parenting myself, and the effects it had on my friend. He cut them out of his life entirely the day he moved except for his wedding day, when he sent them the wrong address on purpose and they spent hundreds of dollars on plane tickets to the wrong state, just as a final "fuck you."
I can totally buy that level of shitty parenting in Bojack, it's honestly not that unrealistic and that's the saddest part of the whole thing, really.
>He's a fairweather friend that tries to coerce others into feeling better rather than trying to understand them
Trips speak the truth.
