What is there to redpill? Its a test. Either a piece of media passes it or it doesn't. Its completely objective.

? It's simple. A movie passes if two female characters have a discussion where the focus isn't about a male character.
It's promoting writing women as actual characters, rather than plot devices used to hype up the MC.

It's arbitrary shit.
is a faggot.

the only movies that pass it are weird art movies with no plot.

many feminist movies don't pass it.

the person who made it is a cunt.

It's something a woman came up with to have something else to whine about. Your teacher sounds like a cunt. What movies is she making you watch?

If there's a conversation between two women talking about something other than a man, pass.

If not, fail.

What's arbitrary?

Shit that should remain in its gender studies containment course.

You can have two female characters in a movie, and have them have a conversation about make-up and then no other conversation. Boom. Just passed the Becdel test.

What's arbitrary is that it doesn't matter. You might as well have a Camel test, if the movie has a camel, it passes, if not, it doesn't.

>I don't want icky GIRLS in my movies XD

get laid and grow up you fags

>types like a redditor
>wants to argue about irrelevant faggot shit
Why did you even come here? You know we don't like you or want you here?

But women talk about a male character all the time in real life. Are you sure it isn't just some feminist delusion created to blame something that doesn't really exist and this thing that doesn't exist is hurting women in some way?

...

Plenty of.filns with progressive or string female orotaga fail the bechdel test. It's a meme

i have to watch Fruitvale Station for a race discussion and pick a gender movie from a list and choose one of these options to write about

Option #1. Examine one of the films listed under Module #3 on the M3 Gender Performances Movie Selections page and write a short (1000 words) essay focused on the following question: Can you identify and describe gender bias in the performance? You may use the Bechdel test or any other indicator. Select a film and describe how the actors perform as masculine, feminine or neutral gender. You might examine elements such as the portrayal of women, the number of characters who are male or female, how their relationships are shown, or the number of scenes with sex or violence. Consider whether the film passes the Bechdel Test.

Option #2. Examine one of the films listed in the LGBTQ database on Kanopy in the Library on the M3 Gender Performances Movie Selections page and write a short (1000 words) essay focused on the following question: How does the actor's performance challenge essentialist ideas of fixed gender identities, heteronormativity and sexual orientation? Select a film and describe how the actors perform gender within (or beyond) the diverse LGBTQ spectrum. You might examine elements such as identity and difference; community, political engagement and social change. Consider whether the film turns away from negative stereotypes. Lesbian porn passes it, though it seems to violate the the spirit of the test. A conversation between a (female) crime boss and a (female) assassin about killing a (male) witness to a crime committed by said crime boss fails the the test, yet it seems to pass the spirit of it.

It just highlights how male-centric movies are. You'd be a fool to use it to actually judge a movie's quality.

The Bechdel Test is more of a tool to measure the quality of female characters more than anything else.

Oh yeah, I can agree with that. The actual structure of the test is objective in that you can very clearly define pass/fail, but like says the result doesn't really matter.

Sorry but this isn't a safe space where you can hide from opinions you dislike.

Here's a (you) I'm feeling quite generous today.

its literally a joke from a comic that people have come to take seriously because of how fucking retarded everyone is

The obvious answer is to pick a feminist movie that doesn't pass the bechdel test and point out that it's a stupid fucking test that only exists so "feminists" can feel smug and or condone censorship. Don't say "feminists" though.

Zombie strippers passes the Becdel test.

A lot of films, especially war films cannot pass it without forcing it to the extreme. Saving Private Ryan could not pass it in any meaningful way.

Why are you typing like someone who doesn't belong here? Don't you realize you're not welcome here? Aren't you white enough to respect the wishes of people who collectively don't want you around? Are you really that niggerish and childish?

what makes you think anyone is welcome here?

what the actual fuck is this slide from.

>Movie has two women talking about inane shit nobody cares about
>PASS WHAT A MASTERPIECE

Because I got here before you did and my thoughts and feelings trump yours, tourist. Now answer your superior's questions, Jamal.

There's a movie called The Women, which features an entirely female cast, but does not pass the Becdel test.

How did you get here before the site went live?

Why are you acting like someone who doesn't belong here? Don't you realize you're not welcome here? Aren't you empathetic enough to respect the wishes of people who collectively don't want you around? Are you really that cis and white male?

presentation from the class

Why are you pretending you're not post 2012 redditor trash, Jamal?
You're not in a position to be questioning me, queer. I just went over this. Get an extension that updates more often, tourist.

its not objective because what constitutes 'talking about the main character' is subjective

>class is "Great Performances on Film"
>it's just leftist propaganda

Drop out of class, and consider burning the school down.

Switch classes.

Better yet drop out. Any art class is a scam.

woah hold the fuck on "correct and wrong entertainment"

Oh, you're that one guy who assumes everyone who types what he doesn't like is a black guy. You've barely been on this site a few years.

Back to your hugbox, faggot

Hey hey, if everyone doesn't want people like me around, and you hate having your safe space full of like minded people violated, why not ban people like me?

I doubt you'll achieve much success telling people like me to leave. After all, its not like cis white males telling trans only clubs to stop existing works either.

Sex and the City passes the Bechdel test, that should say enough.

>watching films that have dialogue
>watching films that have characters
Stay pleb

...

can you post the presentation? I feel I need to see this thing in full context.

what's arbitrary?

the selection of the criteria for pass fail is what's arbitrary you autistic, failing at point making , asshole.

>a thousand words

this is what amerifat education has boiled down to

>that one guy
Look at the uppity non white pretending he's not universally despised.
>whiteknighting for another man because raised by single mommy
>more reddit spacing from someone no one wants here
It's just like real life. No one at the party wants you to be there and they're all just wishing you'd leave. Why is that so hard for post 2012 reddit refugees to understand? Oh yeah, the autism.

Do you have some difficulty understanding if a conversation between two women is about a man or not? Seems pretty objective to me.

This.

Either that or complain to someone that you signed up for a film class and not a gender studies class, as she has given you a gender studies and not a film assignment.

the bechdel test isn't a "film thing" its a "gender-studies" thing because its criteria is totally irrelevant to film.

>faggot spacing

i think this will work
usfweb.usf.edu/courseresources/arts/the2252/m3/race-gender/story_html5.html

Well, its too bad for you that I have absolutely no incentive to fulfill your wish that I should leave.

Also, why 2012 specifically? What happened over at Reddit that caused the alleged exodus?

you clearly have some difficulty understanding regular human being and the meaning of arbitrary

People stop replying to you because it only takes one or two posts before they realize you're a complete idiot and utterly incapable of anything resembling discourse, not because you've successfully shamed/outed them.

this sounds like a recepy on how to make propaganda...

its one year after he got here.

I think its pretty easy to understand if a conversation is about a man or not. If you're saying the test as a whole is arbitrary and doesn't impact the quality of a piece of media, sure I agree with you. But the test itself is just a simple pass/fail test with discrete criteria, I don't see how its arbitrary in that aspect.

>Well, its too bad for you that I have absolutely no incentive to fulfill your wish that I should leave.
A straight white person would. Makes sense.
>reply from a subhuman about people not replying
What a moron. I'd kick the shit out of your faggot ass irl.

Wow america is fucked, can the propaganda be any more blatant?
What do snowflake minorities have to do anything with great movies?

>i have to watch Fruitvale Station for a race discussion and pick a gender movie from a list and choose one of these options to write about

White cop dun goofs and pulls his gun instead of a tazer, shooting a handcuffed unarmed black guy in the head from behind. Cop gets like 2 years.

Take race out of it, Cop shoots unarmed handcuffed person and gets off with a slap on the wrist because "being a cop is hard and I was scared". There are two colors that mater in the american justice system Blue and Green. GO.

>usfweb.usf.edu/courseresources/arts/the2252/m3/race-gender/story_html5.html
thats awfully well produced. Is that your instructors voice? I get the feeling this was provided as part of a course pack from some text book company.

We have been here since before the fire and the wheel. We are eternal.

Let's say you take a Charlie Chaplin movie, (let's pretend in this scenario that this movie never existed) and film it but with a woman in the role Charlie Chaplin played.

It fails the test, because most Charlie Chaplin movies people think of have little in terms of dialogue, and yet the protagonist is portrayed to be participating in very human situations with real concerns.

This means you have a movie that fulfills what the Becdel test is trying to test for, and yet according to the Becdel test it fails.

Similarly, there are a ton of movies with only one human character (Moon for example). Making anything like them but with a female lead would fail the test. Does that mean that Moon and other movies like it are objectifying men?

I beg to differ. Retarded clowns needed the apple revolution to get internet access.

yeah the instructor is an old guy
youtube.com/watch?v=vXfvDYeHd7M

this is what happens when libaral arts majors try to write logic tests.

In addendum: The Joke is that Moon is literally criticising the idea of people, or rather clones if you care about that distrinction being objectified.

The lesbian that came up with it made it as a joke in a comic she did and even she claims its bullshit.

GOSH ITS ALMOST AS IF THE BECHDEL TEST WAS WRITTEN AS A JOKE FOR A COMIC IN THE 80S AND ANYONE TAKING IT SERIOUSLY IS FUCKING BRAIN DAMAGED

Your so fucking cucked by reddit that you need to come up with useless meme bullshit to handwave an argument. You post post post gaia swarm faggot are the worst.

I know a lot of people are gonna freak out about watching movies with Gay people and films that challenge views on race, but personally if your views are reasonably sound, would watching a movie with a different point of view really hurt you in any way shape or form. The whole point of film is to see a story from someone's perspective, I actually got a lot out of seeing movies I wasn't predisposed to watch. Some of those are my favorite movies just because of how they made me feel watching them. Bamboozled, which was kinda panned at the time is actually a really effective movie, and while it is over the top, it was released a year before Dave Chapelle walked away from comedy central and millions of dollars. I think it deserves a critical reevaluation honestly, the thing is deeply unsettling for sure, but it discusses race in a pretty engaging way. I like do the right thing, but I think Bamboozled is a stronger film. Similarly, I really liked seeing Short Bus. I'm never gonna watch it again because it's a pretty boring sex comedy, but it has this scene where three guys are fucking each other and one starts shouting the national anthem into another guys butthole and it's just incredibly funny. Kind of think it's a shame that people are so ready to dismiss stuff as propoganda, and to say academia is all about censorship while also encouraging people to not watch art with a different POV. It's just art, you'll be okay I promise.

whoa people talk about people who are relevant to the film
Imagine being asshurt two men talk about a woman who is relevant to the plot

>getting butthurt because someone dare say faggot in your reddit colony on Sup Forums
You realize gays aren't people, right? You realize the "cuck" meme you're regurgitating is old and stale, right? You realize that being outed as a foreign element doesn't mean you get to claim others are the foreigners, right? Think before replying next time.

AN OPEN MIND IS A FORTRESS WITH IT'S GATES OPEN AND IT'S WALLS UNGUARDED

we're literally living in a goddamn meme reality

>The whole point of film is to see a story from someone's perspective
>he thinks films are about stories
How quaint. Is that what your coworkers at McD's told you?

>Performance of Race and Gender on Film
>Pictures of pre-LGBT LGBT rally about sexual orinentation
>Race and/or Gender is the same as sexuality
What? Am I missing something here?

the Becdel test is just a joke and it makes no sense when applied to 1 movie, it's just gives a sense if you apply it to many movies and see which % passes, and you apply the same with the sexes reversed and see what % passes, so you can say in a sense that "women" are underrepresented in movies or whatever. it's pretty simple

not that i care if women are underrepresented in movies because i am not a woman. also i believe if this is actually an "issue" it will solve itself when women start buying movies that "pass the test" and it makes sense to make that kind of movies so it's a non-issue for me

still the test makes perfect sense even if i consider this to be a non-issue

>Does kino have Felicia Day?
>IF Yes, Camel=true
>IF No, just jews

you're missing how identity politics intentionally took all concepts related to how people feel about themselves and threw them into a fucking blender in order to keep people as confused and divided as possible.

jesus christ that's not objectification. Moon makes its subject the main character. the film is from his point of view. Maybe this example will help you understand. Twin Peaks the series objectifies Laura Palmer. Fire Walk With Me turns her into subject. We experience the world of twin peaks through her eyes. The problem with some writing about women is that they have no character, they're just objects that other characters interact with and have no defining traits, desires, flaws. They just exist as plot points, such as Lois Lane in the BVS movie.

I pointing out that spacing is now a trigger point for newfags like you, good deflection but you failed regardless.

I don't care about fags at all, and you are the literal definition of a cuck. Your giving up a better way to text because to too scared to be seen as a reddit user.

if your movie passes the Bechdel Test you know you got yourself a shit movie

>jesus christ that's not objectification
Did you honestly read that and think that the post was implying the Moon is actual objectifying the protagonist?

>I pointing out
No one cares what a foreigner is pointing out. Leave. This isn't your home. Go back to where ever you were before you showed up uninvited in 2012.

I mean, all film, even without dialogue or character tells a story. Great film does this mostly through composition and editing. Are you 4 years old?

you never said why you think you're welcome here. Much less anyone else.

>I mean, all film, even without dialogue or character tells a story.
Tell me more about art, fast food employee.

>citizens owe foreigners explanations for why they're being deported
How mexican are you exactly, subhuman?

It's not supposed to be about whether or not any individual movie passes the test. The idea was that how few movies overall pass the test says something about how female characters are written. Unfortunately feminists are retarded.

I know you're saying that moon is objectifying people, and I agree. But the reason it doesn't is on how the language of film is used. The Bechdel is a joke, but like good jokes it points out a very real discrepancy in the world of film. It triggers people because it challenges their understanding of the world. Bechdel says it is a joke yes, but just because there are exceptions to the rule that don't make for good portrayals of women, doesn't mean that for the most part films are guilty of objectifying women. You could retool the test and make it that the character has to interact with any other character to make a desire known to the audience that isn't involving a man and even fewer films would pass. The problem with people saying, it's just a joke, is that they miss the point the joke is making. Film is by and large made for men, and for people to experience it from a man's pov. That's not inherently bad, but if you're not conscious of it while watching a movie you aren't being very critical of the media you enjoy and how you view other people.

>It's not about the validity of the test, it's about how many movies pass an invalid test.

Why would I tell you? You don't even want to participate in anything but Ad Hominem. Are you okay? Did your therapist cancel on you? New meds not working out?

See I can do it too, but it's not really like productive at all and really just makes us both look immature. I mean you can walk away with ironic detachment and say, "haha I got someone to get upset and care about something when I didn't" but I mean ask yourself, "why am I doing this?"

I think your life seems pretty sad famalam, consider a hobby outside the internet broski. You might make a friend and enjoy interacting sincerely with folks. I was like you once, but it's really thrilling to go outside.

fuck I mean not, shit. my bad

>Going to an actual film school
M8 I signed up for a two year course at my community college and I got to do fun, practical shit and not be taught by "MUH WOMXN" faggots.

It's politically motivated garbage that is exploited by Hollywood to get as many seats in the cinema as possible.

>Why would I tell you?
So I can laugh at you some more due to your childish understanding of what the art of film pertains to. You're basically what people make fun of when they talk about GoT fans and Michael Bay fans. You don't understand film at all. You have a toddler's understanding of what it is as an art form. Now you're trying to hide these facts behind what you consider a cutting display of "wit". Leave that to the adults, you low-brow early twenty something.

>the person who made it is a cunt.
go on?

Whilst I agree with the bechdel test in some points where the focus is not romance I don't find her a cunt. I read her auto-bio comic and it read like that because her dad was a closeted homosexual she become one, but that's my interpretation.

well sweetie that's why you'll never make it in Hollywood, you weren't taught the basics ;)

By all means my friend tell me in what ways my incredibly purposefully short definition of film is actually wrong. I mean shit man, we could discuss film theory if you like, I dont get why you assume I know nothing about it other than you legitimately only can climax from jerking off to negativity. People like you need this sort of thing though so Im glad youre not hurting yourself and instead engaging in some rick and morty tier edgelord wit.

I'll learn how to be a sanctimonious hypocrite when I get to Hollywood :)
