Y'know, even though the Lion King is my favorite Disney movie I'm actually not all that worried. The mediocre Jungle Book remake didn't ruin the original for me, and the auto-tuned Emma Watson Beauty and the Beast didn't ruin the original. Maybe this will be good, but even if it's not, I'll forget it exists and still have my collector's edition of the original on both Blu-Ray and DVD.

When I said "a new story" I didn't mean a new story in the Lion King universe, I meant like an entirely new concept that they haven't already done, sequelized, and shipped off to Broadway.

The animated version still exists and it's as good as it ever was, you could show that to your son, but anyway I'm wasting my breath. You've answered my question, there really is an audience for this shit.

If you've seen Rick and Morty, it's the Dan Harmon half with the attention to continuity no matter how meaningless without all the goofy poopoo peepee pepes and googas.
Of course it has its own shit. Harmon can definitely be a Beth, in that he takes every little competition way too seriously. Chevy Chase of course goes for the gold biggest prick on set medal, which Dan then decides he needs. Takes it out on Chase by taking his comments and opinions out of context to get fans mad and ultimately just spites him.
Backstage shit aside, the show has a real heart. A handful of great episodes that shows a lot of the characters humanity.
Hardcore fans will tell you it turns to shit after season 3 but truth is that the vibe does take a drastically different turn... Halfway through the first season.
It's not a bad thing, though. It's a show about change, adapting, accepting.

If you're curious, the obvious suggestion is to watch the first episode.
If you want to see some real meat that doesn't give a lot away, check out the chicken tenders episode, the one where Jack Black guest stars, or 304 Remedial Chaos Theory. That's one of their biggest ones.

Avoid the paintball episodes unless you watch the show in order.
