Who is the best living director?
Who is the best living director?
Is it just me or is flicking from Tarentino to Scorsese just too much?
They're both incredibly grotesque in very different ways.
Martin Scorcese. This isn't even a debate.
I'm sure you're a real magazine cover.
>Tarantino even in that list
thats stupid
Neil Breen
both missing
nolan
Hirokazu Koreeda
Wong Kar-wai
>Listing a pleb like Cameron over Alejandro González Iñárritu
Jean-Luc Godard
Peter Weir
FINCH will be remembered as the greatest ever. Other than Zodiac, he's just fucked around so far, elevating pulp shit into great movies. Once he amasses enough money we'll get nothing but instant classics from him.
No one in that image
Finch is shit lad
PTA
Good choices. Koreeda especially
Clint Eastwood, easily. Not only are his movies as critically acclaimed as anyone else on the list, he actually has diversity as a director. He did a musical, Jersey Boys that swept the Tonys, he's done multiple Emmy-winning westerns like Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven, he's done war films like Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, he's done romances like Bridges of Madison County, crime films like Mystic River, biopics like J. Edgar and Sully, mysteries like Changeling, sports movies like Million Dollar Baby, et cetera.
Rocco Siffredi.
this guy right here
>Goodfellas
>Casino
>Gangs of New York
>The Departed
Scorcese is a one-note hack who can't direct a film without DeNiro or DiCaprio being in it.
>Nolan
Amazing director.
>Is that Villeneuve?
Overrated. Pretty movies... but pretty boring movies.
>Fincher
Technically proficient. Blackpilled as fuck. Clearly hates humanity.
>Scorsese
God-tier.
>Tarantino
Degenerate perv who clearly loves cinema & rips off 1,000 movies every time he does anything. Not my cup of tea.
>Cameron
Entertaining hollow thrill rides.
Brian De Palma
Edward Yang
Bela Tarr
Hirokazu Koreeda
Wong Kar-wai
Lav Diaz
Jean Luc Goddard
Francis Ford Coppola
>Scorcese is a one-note hack who can't direct a film without DeNiro or DiCaprio being in it.
After Hours
The Color of Money
The Age of Innocence
Bring Out the Dead
Checkmate atheists
Gore Verbinski
Why
Terrible picks
Your turn
Michael Bay
Scorsese can't even take credit for either of their careers. DeNiro had Godfather II, Deer Hunter, Once Upon a Time in America, and a few other hits in his early career. And DiCaprio had already starred in films for Spielberg, Woody Allen, Sam Raimi, James Cameron, etc. He was a household name long before Gangs of New York.
me
Jerry Bruckheimer with Michael Bay or Gore Verbinski will always result in epic movies.
Your choices are hilarious!
>Nolan
>Amazing director.
>Is that Villeneuve?
>Overrated. Pretty movies... but pretty boring movies.
>Cameron
>Entertaining hollow thrill rides.
lmao i would literally beat the shit out of you with such plebshit opinion *spit*
You're all disgusting drifters from reddit.
See The first Pirates of the Caribbean was great. A Cure For Welness is one of my favorite movies. It's a marvelous trainwreck.
Tarankino
No
If we are going for mainstream directors, it's probably David Lynch.
I'd crack your skull open if you actually say that irl but of course you won't like the worthless movie nerd you are, go masturbate to ozu you genetic dead end
>Lynch
>Mainstream
Fuck off pretentious whore.
this. Me.
Lynch is pretty mainstream
Villeneuve is overrated.
He is great with visuals, but his movies are fucking slogs.
Yang is dead Mr Bond
Lynch is not mainstream. He did one mainstream movie (Dune) which tanked & one mainstream TV show (Twin Peaks) which didn't. Everything else has been pretty under the radar. Most people on the street wouldn't know who the fuck he is.
the one with the most hair on his head
Can't believe nobody's mentioned Malick yet, to be honest
People on the street probably wouldn't be able to identify who Michael Bay is either. Lynch is entry level, let it go.
>Directors
>Good
Every good films is build on the work of actors, directors just luck out when they find perfect casting
From your pic, I'd go: Scorsese > Cameron > Fincher > mr. black prostitute's feet in mouth > Nolan > some hack
None of these guys are close to the best.
Good pick.
this, his last four kinos were all ground breaking.
>Implying Goddard isn't patrician taste.
Quit being an elitist prick. Lynch is not mainstream. He's too weird.
Nolan is shit, this meme needs to end
Lynch isn't exactly Tim Burton, but he's a kind of weird that has a pretty broad audience nowadays. He's certainly more mainstream than most notable living directors and he's a household name.
Films are good
Denis is the best
Coen Bros. Obviously.
kek
No
John Woo
Lynch, Malick and Snyder are the top 3.
>Vellenueve
>boring
How's adhd treating you?
>snyder
what is the joke?
That user is a capeshitter that has no idea about cinema, don't even bother to start an argument.
>Tarantino is on the list
Obvious answer is Marty btw
Either Martin Scorsese or Werner Herzog.
No one else really comes close.
/thread
probably Godard.
Snyder
The only great film he's ever done was American Graffiti. The rest are shit.
>He's never seen Raging Bull
>He's never seen Silence
>He's never seen Taxi Driver
>He's never seen The King Of Comedy
>He's still allowed to post here
Why
>i'm a capeshitter because i don't like snyder
That doesn't make any sense.
fuck I forgot to mention Lynch.. oh well.
I was going to pick him too but he really doesn't work anymore
he's dead...professionally
Kiarostami would be number 1 if he was still alive
After Hours is the most underrated film of all time
Scorsese on that pic.
...
After Hours is fucking garbage, a movie can't be underrated if it's dog shit. And Goodfellas is horrendous. Ray Liotta's voice is absolutely grating and the only interesting part of the movie is Joe Pesci.
Martin Scorsese is a bitch.
(You)
Alfonso Cuarón
Children of Men and Gravity are amazing directorial accomplishments.
Amazing on a technical level but they are not the greatest films of all time
>Halloween
>The Thing
>Big Trouble in Little China
>Escape From New York
>In The Mouth of Madness
>They Live
>Assault on Precinct 13
>Christine
>Starman
Yes, Carpenter has some misses on his belt, but his hit's are quite important in the world of cinema. So...he's my pick for best living director
Y tu mama tambien is also pretty good
I laughed irl
but I am also quite dumb, so keep feeling bad about yourself
>Halloween
overrated slasher garbage
>The Thing
Arguably the greatest science fiction of all time. One of the best horror films ever created.
>Big Trouble in Little China
It was okay.
>Escape From New York
It was okay but Snake is honestly the epitome of a generic 80's action "fight the establishment" antihero.
>In The Mouth of Madness
Cool concept with a lot of potential. Turned out not to be great as it should have been.
>They Live
Arguably his second best film. Great casting and concept.
>Assault on Precinct 13
fun little flick.
>Christine
Dumb concept. Was pretty good.
>Starman
Didn't care for it.
You didn't even mention The Fog or Prince of Darkness which are both... okay..
>all these redditors are arguing over plebshit directors while ignoring the only good post in the thread.
Anyways I'm going to throw some other names out there:
Hou Hsiao Hsien
Kim Ki-duk
Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Olivier Assayas
Apicathpong Weerskathul
Miguel Gomes
Michael Haneke
Agnes Varda
Jafar Panahi
No director has ever been good
...
His first wave of films were great ending with Clerks 2.
Everything since has been purposely shit.. Although Tusk is underrated.
I'm sure Jay & Silent Bob Reboot will be awesome since the guy is great at writing good comedies.
These t b h. Four very important fellas.
>foreignshit
dropped
We haven't have a decent active director in 10 years
I unironically cannot decide between zach snyder and nicolas winding refn
scorsese is also top tier
chris nolans only good movies are first half of batman begins and the dark knight and thats only because his brother was involved
nolan is a photographer that thinks hes a genius mastermind because he can over-complicate retarded stories as if its a science
get high and make up some retarded plot puzzle and film it using the most expensive equipment with every actor in a tuxedo while wearing a fancy overcoat with your hair combed to the side, congrats youre a genius filmmaker
