Seconding this. Atmospheric and unique. I really wish there were more medieval horror movies out there - and in that vein, I'd recommend Black Death (2010) as well.

If you want something of genuine artistic quality, Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky is beautifully shot and scored.

Came here to post this. HTBAG really captured the bleak filthiness of the middle ages

Hard to Be a God is the perfect movie for people who always end up having their suspension of disbelief shattered by everything not being disgusting and covered witb excrement in movies set during the middle ages.

this
film of the decade so far

based on a book by the authors of stalker

but it's a science fiction

THIS AND ALSO

this and Marketa Lazarova

the name of the rose

Andrei Rublev

It's not perfect, or even that great but I've seen Black Death 4-5 times.

Patricians choice

>Dude everyone's retarded and everything is covered in shit lmao
Really didn't like this movie, and you're retarded for actually thinking medieval Europe was that filthy

just finished it on tv.
started pretty cringey, but turned out fine

No one cares but I have to comment on the fact that plague doctors come from 17th century.

Ironclad is a pretty good, it has some great combat scenes
there's a lot of good recommendations in this thread btw

this.

i feel the same way about this movie

The ECW is just as "medieval" as Le Plague Doctor in OP's image.

>chasemore doctor

7th Seal

>really captured the bleak filthiness of the middle ages
And you know it really captured it because you were there and experienced it yourself, I suppose?

Even as a kid I was like "wtf is this shit"
I love the movie but that part was just weird

it was meant to be alien and confusing dont just just chalk it all up to gross

I care, user. I care.

the pic starting a thread hasnt necesarilly to be related with the subject of said thread, smartass.

What are some good movies about 18th century Europe besides Barry Lyndon?

there are these things called words
little shapes people draw on paper
they can be used to to send messages to people in the future, messages like, oh I don't know, a description of the writers surroundings, a chronicle of the writer's daily life, and a myriad of observations the writer makes about the world he or she lives in

Am I a pleb for liking this?

also there's this thing called 'inference'
in layman's terms it's the reason you don't need to eat shit to know it won't taste good

Is that from Perfume? That movie was alright but the orgy at the end was weird as fuck

>Is that from Perfume?
Uh no

The Princess Bride
