I think in the case of Reagan, the guy was a golden boy for America's obsession with the Leave it to Beaver type of character. A goodie-two-shoes who can make them smile. I've never heard him say anything remotely intelligent about politics. The deepest thing the guy could say was TAXES TOO HIGH, and that's all I think he knew of politics. The guy's brain was also fried by the time his second term happened, so his staff probably did most of the stupid shit he was responsible for.
