I have a weird fascination with Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. I've read everything in English I could find and about half of what I've been able to obtain in French.

Just a few of the oddities:

1. The world never heard of him until well after the Khmer Rouge took power. He managed to exist completely behind the scenes.

2. Most CAMBODIANS had also never heard of him until the Khmer Rouge began a crude personality cult to try to whip up nationalist frenzy against the Vietnamese.

3. American, Australian, British and French intellectuals were utterly charmed by the Khmer Rouge and you can find tons of articles they wrote about the Khmer Rouge's "brilliant" plans for an agricultural state. Most of them still have careers to this day, it hasn't hurt their reputation at all.

4. For some reason, all of the especially VICIOUS communist parties were lead by teachers. The Cambodians probably had even more teachers than the others, which makes their persecution of the educated class even more astonishing.

5. You can read all of these books about him and still not have the vaguest idea of what he was like. Until his "trial" at the end of his life, he was just always slightly out of focus in photographs and it was that way in his life too.

1. They split the country up into fiefdoms after the war, so the "ruralization" was carried out very unevenly in different places.

2. It's not really clear that starving your own population actually meets the criteria of "genocide" as it's been defined in international law. For this reason foreigners tend to focus on the Khmer Rouge's persecution of minorities, most of whom are still pretty much hated in Cambodia.

3. Like Enver Hoxha, time in France and connections with the (Stalinist) French Communist Party kind of fucked up Pol Pot even more. It's weird that so many nasty piece of shit communists floated through France, whose communist party was always sort of a joke.

4. Without Chinese support, the Khmer Rouge wouldn't have amounted to much. The Gang of Four though the Khmer Rouge were wonderful, they both hated the Vietnamese but more importantly the Chinese imported tons of "exotic goods" from Khmer Rouge-controlled Cambodia.

The "exotic goods" were often parts of endangered animals used in traditional Chinese medicine -- things like Tiger penises used to cure impotence.

Literally millions of Cambodians starved so Chairman Mao's cronies could eat tiger dicks.

5. His wife went insane at the height of the mass murder campaign. Pretty much all of the Khmer Rouge heavies were intermarried with each other, so this was a massive problem, because she was sister in law to another member of the inner circle, Ieng Sary (aka "Brother Number Three"). It just adds to the obscurity about him because while she outlived him, she spent almost all of it locked in rooms in the jungle, raving mad.

Yeah but acknowledging a "genocide" is happening triggers all kinds of things in international treaties. In Cambodia, they badly wanted it to be "genocide" because they didn't believe the Hun Sen government (he was an ex-Khmer Rouge who defected very early to the Vietnamese & participated in the invasion that deposed the KR) wouldn't prosecute it effectively. "Genocide" would be how they would move in to claim jurisdiction and prosecute the surviving leaders themselves.

For some reason, globalists get hard ons at the thought of prosecuting "genocide." It's like virtue signaling on steroids.
