Mate, this has been happening for awhile.

They like to call everything and everyone who somewhat disagrees with or even questions their narrative some form of racist/fascist/Islamophobic/Homophobic/Xenophobic/Misogynistic, which used to work quite well on a small scale. However, when these phrases are used on a mass scale, they lose all meaning. The problem with using terms such as the above on a mass scale is that, these words are in practicality, hollow and meaningless. They have not been reserved for people truly hateful, but anyone opposing the narrative. And when they were used, it was never to defeat a point in debate or highlight illogical arguments, it was simply to make the person of the receiving end of the label become a social pariah, so as to prevent their ideas and beliefs for gaining traction.

The trouble they have run into with the usage of these words is that when you call 17 million people who voted for Brexit racist, or tens of millions of Trump supporters Islamophobic, these hollow phrases lose the only sting they had, as one cannot be a social pariah if they are among tens of millions of like minded people.
