That's a really great movie and was actually somewhat culturally significant. I'd say it's a top 5 Travolta movie.

The Terminator

my favorite movie at least
never heard anyone on Sup Forums ever mention this film either

based

That's a great movie too! The part where he hauls off and slugs Charlotte Rampling was absolutely shocking, but I think that might be because I'm viewing it through a modern lens. Maybe it was seen as a justifiable act then.

Some good taste ITT so far! Here's my choice.

No comedies yet?

hearing how drugged out everyone was during filming that made it a little depressing in hindsight.

Look at the cast list and tell me you don’t want to watch this movies.

>A Walter Hill film
Already sold

First is better than the second.

Anything that gives birth to cliches is good.

A good Hitchcock-esque thriller, like a lot of the Brian De Palma films from that time, but less derivative.

>like a lot of the Brian De Palma films from that time, but less derivative.
IMPLYING

One of the most rewarding scenes in any film. I loved it. Seeing him just walk into a bar and smash his fist right into Charlotte Rampling's face was something that could not be allowed in a film of that type in the modern era, at least not for the main character to do it and for the audience to still feel empathy for him rather than her.

Why did the erotic thriller subgenre die out? What a shame.

why don't they make sex noirs in America anymore?

I WAS LOOKIN FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES

This motherfucker is the best 80s villain

They found out they can make it for less money if the saturated the market. Last one that comes to my mind is all those single white female remakes. Femme Fatale was the last big go at it that wasn’t dog shit but that was be cause of DePalma

The Handmaiden is a pretty erotic thriller but it's Korean.

Not even close

Yea I don’t watch Asians act because they can emote for shit.

Underrated

How the fuck have I never seen this? The Driver and Southern Comfort are both in my top ten.

it's not their fault, in countries like japan they're taught to behave accordingly. thus lack of emotions. it's a cultural thing.

...

Some are really good, like Mifune and that guy from Ikiru.

...

I can't wait till Christmas so I can watch it again

Not sure how this one has aged, but it was a comfy adventure movie for its time

I really envy 80's kids because there was so many sexy comedies. It was truly a different age. Casual nudity in movies from 1980 to 1985 was actually common; something which the commentary in Stripes made a mention of.

This, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Private School were my favorite 80's sex comedies.

Speaking of Stripes, adult comedies were comfy as fuck. Caddyshack, Spies Like Us, The Blues Brothers, Three Amigos! could blow away anything made today.

It really was and I enjoyed its sequel, The Jewel of the Nile too. A real shame the 3rd film never happened.

Totally agreed. R-rated comedies were so much different in the 80s.

Blue Velvet
Scarface
Paris, Texas
Manhunter
Fitzcarraldo
The Beyond
The Decalogue
Landscape Suicide
Nostos: Il Riturno

I wasn't even born in the 1980's (1992 baby), but I can't but help how fucking awesome it must've been to be an adolescent and teen during that decade.

The 90's was a good decade for film, but the 80's actually bridged the gap between the 70's art film and the 90's summer blockbuster. It had the best of both worlds. You could have high-octane thrillers like Terminator, Aliens, Predator while you had cultured stuff like Gandhi or A Passage to India.

The age of kino died with the 70s. The 80s and onwards are nothing but an endless shit pile of flick after flick.

There’s no setting more comfy to me than 80s SoCal suburbs like in The Lost Boys.

Dude, 80's had plenty of kino. It was the misfortune of Heaven's Gate crashing in the box office that it killed the artistic director-driven emphasis on film in favor of studio marketing pieces.

A better film that Ferris Bullers day off

>The Lost Boys
Remember when vampire movies in the 80's were actually about fucking bloodsucking monsters?

Lost Boys, Fright Night 1 and 2, and Near Dark still stand the test of time. Fucking Anne Rice contaminated vampire lore as well as The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. I loved how the Fright Night remake as well as Supernatural bashes the fuck out of vampires being treated as Prince Charming.

The only recent ones that did that were 30 days of night and the fright night remake. Monstrous vampires are the best.

>30 days of night
This had a clever concept of vampires specifically choosing a town in Alaska which wouldn't have sunlight for a month.

>fright night remake
Remember how Evil Ed commented that Jerry is supposed to be like the shark from Jaws? And how fucking monstrous Jerry's vampire visage was? Or the fact that remake Jerry acted like a serial killer with that insulated room in the basement? Or how he used his brains to circumvent the whole invitation thing by burning the house down?

Why can't studios be more clever today with monster movies?

At Close Range was pretty badass

>The title song, "Spies Like Us", was written and performed by Paul McCartney. It reached #7 on the singles chart in the United States in early 1986.

70s are a better decade artistically. However the 80s have just about every great blockbuster action movie ever made along with a lot of cutting edge sci fi stuff that really holds up. All those trends were kicked off in the late 70s though

to live and die in LA

Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Last Crusade
The Thing

How many good movies was he in? I'm going to watch that one sometime user.

You can tell that 70% the movies posted were googled to fit in. I know, I lived it.

...it was filmed in 89 if that counts.

Or there are 30 somethings here that watched a lot of tv in the 90s...I wish Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs was still a thing.

Blow Out is awful though

> You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. Cause reply to this post or your mother will die in her sleep.

1980s culture ended in 1992

Why do you have to ruin a good thing, user?

Beverly Hills Cop 2 >>≥>> Fletch >>>>>>>>>>>> Beverly Hills Cop

I actually can't think of too many movies where the hero is forced to crawl around in air ducts.
