The first Pacific rim was fun, but it took itself way too seriously for another generic giant monster vs giant robot movie. At least the new one seems to be upping the energy and is actually a pretty unique plot being some new military branch fighting the monsters. I have never seen that before except in maybe one Godzilla movie

I don't know if you remember but the first Pacific Rim only had like 3 big kaiju fights.
Rest was the lead convincing Idris Elba to let the Asian woman be his partner.
And that went on for a good portion of the movie.
