This came to me when I was wondering why critics and audiences alike were creaming themselves over all the "strange" stuff in this movie. As a nerd I was only mildly impressed by all the visual effects because I've seen all this stuff in some form before. I've seen even stranger. I can imagine this movie being mind blowing to someone who doesn't normally dabble into this stuff.
I finally realized the MCU movies are for normies now

Hold on. You're trying to tell me that multi-million dollar productions are meant to be for general audiences so they can make as much money as possible? What a startling revelation.
Shh, let OP have his little dellusion of superiority. It's Christmas.
>Too smart to enjoy 80% of the MCU
>Not smart enough to get a well paying job
fml
Being too smart to enjoy things is a meme.
No u are a meme.
No it's not, my genius friend couldn't be arsed to see a marvel movie because he's busy thinking about higher level shit and that base nonsense doesn't interest him. I love stupid shit though. Basically, if you have to say "I'm too smart to enjoy this." you're not. My friend has never claimed this.
It took you this long?
I enjoyed antman, I thought civil war was okay, then I saw doctor strange and felt like mcu movies burned out.
The "woah" factor is gone, maybe it's time to let capeshit rest for a decade or two?
That's called being an uptight asshole, user.
They always were, kiddo. Parroting shit you heard on youtube doesn't somehow make you deeper either.
Either way, the movie was enjoyable. I liked it better than the animated one.
I was expecting them to shoot colored beams at each other like Harry Potter. The way this movie did magic was a million times cooler than that though.
When you say "dabble into this stuff" what stuff are we talkin?
LSD
Examples?
Strange is my favourite MCU movie to date but have a seen a fair number of SFX movies.
NOT UNTIL SECRET WARS DAMMIT
>Movies made for the general public actually wow the general public.
Surprise surprise.
Also I know you typed that with the attempt of feeling superior to the people impressed by it...but you really aren't.
I want these 13 year old newfags to leave co already. Like fuck the holidays for inviting them in this board thinking they have figured life out already when really they got an emotional maturity of a teaspoon.
>now
The physical magic-fights were still fairly limited. Glowing whips and shields, glass spears, astral bodies, plus real weapons like his sentient cape.
>Let's spend a fortune making a movie that caters to the hardcore LCS crowd, and fuck the normies
>Surely nothing will go wrong and we'll make a fortune!
Watchmen was GOAT.
But Sin City and, dare I say it, 300 were fine.
Were you expecting Jodorowsky?
>People want a relatable Superman who's unhappy and has a life filled with problems
>This will surely kickstart the franchise again!
>Oh and let's let everybody and their brother-in-law meddle in the production
I was really impressed with how Strange handled Dormammu. That shit was way better than the standard "bad guy sends an army and hero shoots beams" that I've come to expect out of a movie like this.
What surprises me is the fact that people are praising the "magic" effects in the trailer.
Havent we seen that in Inception already?
Normies love Watchmen. Way more than hardcore comic readers do.
Neither of those films were about Superheroes.
Almost noone outside of LCS denizens even associated 300 with comic book expectations, it was perceived as a sandle-and-toga epic.
Sin City was an over-the-top crime noir, again totally outside the cape genre, like History of Violence.
...
And then they did it again.
The death montage just needed to be longer, or else have them say it
There was a cut line where it was revealed to be years or something
that was like 20 years ago grandpa
It was done better than Inception.
I'm not a big fan of the Watchmen movie, but it does have moments of brilliance.
>the little boy is impressed with sfx from 20 years ago
With the guy at the helm that drove Watchmen to a loss.
>WB fell for the kino meme
No one has ever denied Snyder's ability to create an impressive sequence. It's his ability to stitch it together into a movie, with decent character dialogue that is the problem.
inception only had one scene that was more than clever camera trickery and it ultimately just a blueball because no one ever actually uses the ability to fold the city to accomplish anything
That's something that really bugs me about BvS. It is, for the most part, a gorgeous movie. I just wish those visuals were put to good use.
I can't even say "I'm glad the movie exists because of this and that scene" like I can do with Watchmen.
It's not even as good as MoS.
Goyer can't into story.
Snyder is deeply uncomfortable directing dialogue between people in hero costumes.
It's a serious problem, particularly for a film like Justice League which you would think would rely on a lot of character interaction in costumes.
I do. Snyder's sequences are obnoxious and juvenile. There's nothing impressive about them.
It might have worked better if it was a bit longer. But then again, these movies can unfortunately only be so long.
Let me refine that;
Goyer can come up with separately intriguing plot elements or story turns.
He's utterly incapable of stitching them together into a larger, cohesive narrative. And he sets up overriding themes and then abruptly abandons them later when shit starts getting actiony, never revisiting them, resolving them, or even remembering to say anything memorable about them at the end.
There's no payoff to a tough scene like this one at all. It just hangs out there as "the reason he's reluctant to display his powers for two decades, except when he isn't".
Then it falls to Internet Autists to headcanon it in to some sort of sensibility.
There's no resolution in the final act of MoS for Clark vs. his father's cynical despair, his distrust of his neighbors and the government and humanity in general's ability to cope or do the right thing.
There's just cackling Evil Aliens with a moronic plot to flatten the planet for No Raisin and a neck snappering
Hope is promised, but the story delivers Full Metal Jacket with prolonged CGI destruction porn.
And no one really enjoyed Full Metal Jacket's ending, either.
It at least had more significance than MoS' ending.
>my friend
>genius
Pick one.
What is really sad is that Superman/Clark never really develops an ability to resolve conflicts more complex than this early scene.
He gets pissed and Hulks on stuff and that's enough. Even in BvS he's bullying Batman from moment one, and only even makes a feeble attempt to talk when his Mommy is in danger.
Goyer and Snyder have turned Superman into a developmentally challenged superhero.
>uptight
I notice this is a word morons use to describe humans arent mindless pleasure seeking stupid animals.
*this early scene
"Superman No Like You Harass Girl."
"Whatcha gonna do about it?"
"....."
Later
"RARRR ME DESTROY TRUCK, OUT OF FRUSTRATION!"
I mean, he could have literally called the truck driver a punk bitch and let the guy break his knuckles on him. Worst case he loses his busboy job (but probably not). And it's displaying less of Daddy's Forbidden Powers than this shit.
Why even have scenes like this?
Not to mention, when he was fighting Batman, he didn't know Kryptonite would weaken him that much.
When he was going to punch Batman in the head, then Batman blocked him, he didn't know it would weaken. He knew he could punch Batman's head off.
Why are you framing "pleasure seeking" like it's a bad thing, user?
No, it's when people have become jaded and squeamish about publicly enjoying things they aren't commited fanboys for.
"I'm going to see this movie, but I don't expect to enjoy it."
Every time Superman was recovered enough to toss Batman around, it never occurred to him to just disable the damn suit he was wearing.
Then Batman is trapped in a several hundred pounds of metal junk. But again, the point is that Goyer plot progression relies on characters doing the 12th smartest thing they are capable of almost constantly. Even Batman becomes a brute-force response to every challenge.
Jodo has his own comics
EM AI SEE KAY EEE WAI EM OH YOO ESS EEE
that ending actually really struck a chord with me the first time I watched FMJ
get out of the basement
How would Snyder and Goyer be received today if their last comicbook movies were Watchmen and TDKR?
Especially Snyder, let's say he goes full fantasy or sci-fi instead
Just wait til OP finds out we had a black president
Both of them seem impervious to the effects of making terrible movies in a way Shamalamadingdong must surely envy.
M. Knight was brought down by much better movies than Sucker Punch or Blade 3.
The MCU is fucking awful and everyone knows it.
I'm not a fan of the film, but goddamn that title sequence is one of the best things to come from any cape movie ever.
>yfw Snyder, Goyer and Shamwow team up to make Avatar Book 2
Shymalan making one Blade 3 or even Avatar wouldn't have hurt him as much as what he did. Shymalan went over a decade without anything good; then he made his most recent movie and people accepted him right back into the fold. People wanted him to make a comeback but he just kept fucking up. Goyer, coming off of the acclaimed Dark Knight movies makes MoS and suddenly everyone on Sup Forums "always" hated Goyer.
lol no
but keep on being a contrarian faggot cause muh sekret club
The Last Airbender?
>JUST realized high-budget, mass marketed Disney movies are for normies
Woah
Did you just see Iron Man 2?
