So, since we're having at least 10 different threads about both the original and 2049 per hour, what about setting up a general where we can talk about this glorious series?
Blade Runner thread then, post criticisms, subtext interpretations, waifus, etc.

I hope someone manages to recreate K's jacket. It's pretty schway.

What was the point of Leto's character? It didn't go anywhere.

>Luv killing the coroner and police woman without repercussions
Just another similarity to the GOTS movie. Except in that one the cops fought back.
Lincoln Morales
I like it, good job.
Nolan Clark
Don't bother, negative reviews get dismissed by you being called a brainlet/pleb with no retort.
And this is coming from someone who didn't hate the film but the dickriding it's receiving around these parts is astounding
Liam Sanders
He was the catalyst for the plot. They obviously wanted to set up a sequel with how the movie just went away from him with no resolution.
Kevin Lee
Joi waifu when?
Elijah Gray
He was the bad guy with an interesting idea, needing more androids to settle the stars.
Justin Parker
Just got back, the theater was empty. I was all the way in the back and I had a group of die hard fans next to me. 20-30 people max. It was perfect.
Samuel Myers
Presumably the LAPD was bought off or forced into looking the other way when it came to Wallace Corps personnel, as the noir trope goes. This is somewhat hinted at by the establishing shot outside of the DNA sequencing lab/machine as those janitors were cleaning up a blood stain.
Hunter Richardson
The mood makes the film for me. The film breathes slowly and deeply instead of gasping for air like most modern movies.
It has a rhythm that pulsates like a slowly beating neon heart and hypnotizes you into a trance.
It’s a special film for sure.
Kevin Moore
ate mushrooms, went to see it.
other than the leto replicant birth ceiling vag scene, thought it was thoroughly enjoyable for the cinematography alone

so they did actually kept Rachael's role hidden before the release?
I was reading the trivia on IMDB a few weeks before release and the actress said she wasn't even contacted by Ridley

Wtf was up with the last 30 minutes? The rebellion shit then then the "it was all a part of the bigger plan" nonsense and then the replicant fist fight, what were they thinking...

I have to rewatch this. One time isn't enough lads, don't know if i'll be able to wait until the blu ray comes out.
Christopher Clark
Is this film actually worth seeing in IMAX or will just regular suffice? Will they still be playing it in IMAX in two weeks from now? That would be the soonest time a lot of IRL shit will clear up and it'll be convenient for me to see it, plus I want a clear mind so I can appreciate the kino.
Justin Brooks
This, the amount of plebs in this board is staggering.

>comes into blade runner general thread >complains about shilling ????? no one asked you for you buddy we are just discussing here, woosh woosh
Samuel Gonzalez
Dont you worry, this bunch of plebs will be shilling the new marvel Thor movie.
Brayden Jackson
maybe being passionate about a movie you fell in love with? how's that for a novel idea? life is short. sometimes people get excited and want to discuss a film they just saw because it lit up their imagination. doesn't always equal shilling.
Josiah Clark
apparently the original cut was almost 4 hours. But from what I can tell there's room for a sequel covering the replicant revolution and Wallace's replicant masterrace
Jose Parker
too many long scenes where it was just two characters talking to each other, nothing going on in the background. close on their faces or a medium shot of the two of them. made it feel very claustrophobic. jared leto was god awful. i hope this ends his career. gosling was underutilized. harrison ford felt way too much like a celebrity cameo. felt like it was too close to the original without bringing anything new to the table, either in the story or detail of the world. i didn't like the original so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
Adam Garcia

What a sad motherfucker.
Hunter Bennett
I really hated the last 30 minutes as well. I loved most everything before that.
Really, does it matter if Deckard meets his daughter or not? I felt like it was completely disconnected from all the themes involving wombs and being born to be considered human. For me it was a really out-of-place feel-good ending.
Jonathan James
Walking dead is gay and so are you, I just saw 2049 and im interested in seeing what others have to say, sad faggot.

No, fuck off you cunt. It's good that threads about this film are taking over this board. It pushes all the capeshit, star wars, GOT, e-celeb threads, cuckold porn spam off the front page and back to where it belongs
fuck off you twat. Legitimate discussion about this film is the best thing that can happen to this board and you want to bottle it up like an autistic little reddit cunt
Gavin Hall
God fuckin damn it it was so good. Like seriously after all these decades, goddamn it they actually did it. Whole thing was fuckin great and one of the best movies I've seen this decade, and I'm not even a science fiction guy. I saw the original back in highschool like 10 years ago and saw the other cuts when that final cut blu ray was released. Just fuckin great.
Leo Jenkins
To me the visuals were the biggest disappointment.
Not enough contrast or camera movement. The whole thing lacked to filmlike sheen of the original. The whole thing reminded me of the lo fi video cameras of the early 00's. before digital was perfected to be the equal of film.
Juan Gonzalez
This I get but the amount of threads that occupy the board compared to the usual is staggering.
And since /film/ is never going to take off guess these sort of flicks is what will fuel the discussion in the current age.
I guess I shouldn't complain since the alternative is blacked, sneed etc. so fire away. I was simply asking a question what will follow after this, no need to get your panties in a bunch Yeah it just didn't seem like it fit the spirit of what was seen in the previous hour of the film we've seen. I did like the staircase scene although it was riding on the predecessor's iconic moment but eh what the hell.
Isaac Stewart
Went in expecting it to be bad, and was pleasantly surprised. Only major issue I have with the movie isn't even so much an issue with the movie itself, but rather that it removes some of the ambiguity the original film had that made it so great.
Also, Mackenzie Davis needs to get more work.
Wyatt Brown
I know I shouldn't love that red-head replicant prostitute but goddamn it... I do
>no tsundere replicant prostitute to bully you into sex
James Thomas
It's not for the nu-ADHD crowd. It was made in a reverential and completely effective way to make it a legitimate sequel with integrity.
Owen Davis
I really like the luv character, really showcases the deadly efficiency angle of replicants. The first movie didn't really show off their physical capabilities very well.
I felt like they had to cut material for ana and the replicant rebellion angle. The rebels had barely any set up and were on screen for less than 2 or 3 minutes - they aren't even shown in the final fight.
I think the movie was too slow for alot of people, maybe a dozen people left my theater midway, and a black woman was literally snoring from midway to the end.
Henry Roberts
You fucking retards ALWAYS say this.
>There's TOO many IT threads, it must be shilling!! >Wow shills at least don't make it obvious, four Walking Dead threads on the front page?
People just wanna talk about this movie half because it's kino and half because it triggers people.
Colton Young
can someone explain this? not bait. i could barely even understand what he was saying. is it a reference to the original
Gabriel Myers
Pickle Rick/10
Nicholas Ortiz
I thought the movie was just "ok" but being slow was definitely NOT one of my complaints.
I do think it might be too slow for the pleb masses though.
John Howard
Replicants seem like nice people and very friendly we should have more of them
Charles Thomas
I saw a whole group of like 6 people leave during the showing I went to tonight. Couldn't believe it. Literally like society decaying before your eyes.
Henry Morales
i saw it in IMAX on thursday and just got back from seeing it again on a regular screen and it wasn't nearly as immersive. could also be because it was my second viewing but i had a much better experience the first time around. i'd recomment IMAX 100% if i go again im going to suck it up and shell out the extra $
Thomas Foster
>physical capabilities
That was one of the best parts of the movie. I loved the original but the restrictions are glaring. I don't think the most diehard fan would say the Pris fight is realistic or even makes sense. It's almost artistic in how bad it is.
Now they have the technology to make the fistfights look really great. Anyone who saw Indiana Jones 4 knows that even back then it's difficult to get Harrison Ford to not look like a crippled old elderly man. The fact that the Elvis Lounge fight looks half as good as it does is amazing.
Charles Scott

And you get off by calling other people retards while praising this flick? No user you are the retards

Science, nerd culture, and all that sort of shit are just accessories these days. I know plenty of women who are "totally cool just one of the guy gamer, science, nerd girls" who would fucking HATE this movie. It doesn't accessorize well. If you are stupid, it's going to make you feel stupid and discussion of any of its themes are going to make you really uncomfortable. Throw in the fact that you have perfect A.I. cyber waifus and you're going to upset women viewers on a visceral level which will cause them to hate other aspects of the movie that are unrelated to that. I know a lot of guys as well that are "totally down with nerdy stuff bro" so they can get in the pants of the girls mentioned above. They will actually probably like this movie in some cases, but because they aren't utterly clueless they aren't going to be bringing one of the girls they're sleeping with to see it. I haven't said whether it's a good or bad movie, just that as a product, it doesn't and won't sell well.
Justin Lewis
>If you are stupid, it's going to make you feel stupid and discussion of any of its themes are going to make you really uncomfortable. There is nothing intellectual about this movie. It just spoon feeds you the themes from the original
Nolan Bennett
Yeah, I felt some scenes were a bit too long or just very slow, not that it was a bad decision, but I think that if certain shots were left out or cut earlier the movie would flow way better. Like the encounter with the bees or the reveal with the furnace being a real memory. I think Denis did that because he thought audiences would get lost you wouldn't believe how many people suck at paying attention to films, I've seen people get lost during comedies
Xavier Hill
>I really like the luv character, really showcases the deadly efficiency angle of replicants
Did it? She needlessly left K alive knowing that he knew who she was, who she worked for and that being a cop he most likely would have had people looking for him. That was so fucking dumb and such poor writing. Hell, all they had to do was not have him in the same room as Deckard when she breaks in and takes Deckard. That way, we don't have the contrived instance of her not killing him, and then we dont have the lead up to these stupid fucking robot rebels planning their uprising
My main gripe with this film was that everything felt so contrived. Things I expected a payoff for I didn't get, ESPECIALLY K's only memory being the wooden horse. You expected it to be planted there for a reason, instead it seems like the film didn't imply that and it was just a lucky coincidence. Might need to see it again to pick up anything I missed
Robert Ortiz
You've got a good attitude and mindset my dude.
Nolan Walker
>K's only memory being the wooden horse. It was to add to the authenticity of him being a red herring or possibly even confuse audiences to question whether K is the fake or Ana is, but that's just my theory
Owen Collins
I've been wondering, exactly how have lowest common denominator normies been reacting to this film? It's funny because yesterday there were a couple of kids seating next to me in the cinema, maybe on the 10 to 14 age range, and to my surprise they all seemed to be having a great time with the film, commenting with each other how cool everything looked and making up all sorts of theories on what was going on and stuff. If literal kids are capable of at the very least grasping the level of abstraction required to enjoy an aesthetically elegant film and a very slightly vague story then how can it be this isn't resonating well with general audiences?
Hunter Carter
>k being left alive
He was about to die, she couldn't have predicted a random rebel group to come up 40 stories and rescue him.
>K's coincidental memory
I did not mind that twist since it seemed like Dennis was trying to emphasize the idea that actions are what make you human and have a soul - not just a memory.
Matthew Nelson
Thank you for your input goldman hebrewstein. I'll never forget the 200 to 300 thousand.
Easton Cook
lol... if you legitimately enjoy listening to uninteresting and drawn out scenes of expository dialogue then you must belong to the nu-youtube-vlogging crowd. you can be reverential to your source material and still do something new with it to make it feel fresh and worth watching for people who've seen the original. scarface and its remake are good examples of what i'm talking about.
yeah... it felt like i'd been watching a super long music video or something. and the holograms got super repetitive. lots of wasted potential visually.
Connor Rivera
>kids 10 to 14
It's no surprise they liked the film. Gen Z is the most racist, conservative, and intellectually curious generation yet.
Matthew Wilson
The first thing I heard out of the person I went with after the film ended was "God, that was so boring."
Jeremiah Collins
Nobody was looking for him, lmao, he's a replicant. Most people hate him.
Tyler Ramirez
>racist, conservative >intellectually curious
Christian Wright
>he was about to die
she could have predicted the LAPD would soon be there. literally no reason not to kill him, it's poor writing and no amount of dumb fan theories will make up for it
Christian Jones
>the LAPD would venture off to find a lost replicant unit when most humans hate them >when K didn't tell anyone where he was going >and it's in fucking Vegas
did you watch the movie?
Jose Edwards
Watch Blade Runner 2049 so you can spout CELLS, INTERLOCKED, A WHITE FOUNTAIN PLAYED.
Evan Butler
wow this movie was hot shit. first i get suckered into mad max because of glowing reviews and now this. the "soundtrack" was audible diarrhea and it could've been literally 30 mins shorter without losing anything
Jayden Hall
ive seen it twice already.
Jace Nelson
Was it intentional that most of the people that were openly against replicants resembled Neo-Nazis? DESU.
Blake Mitchell
I thought it was good how they handled him. another movie would give him double the screen time without actually adding anything else to the plot just because he's the main "bad guy"
Jonathan Gonzalez
It's basically meant to gauge how mentally stable/mentally focused a Replicant blade runner is being out in the field for some time. If they fail their test, they have to be retired ere they let a replicant with a gun walk out.
Elijah Baker
I'm just saying dude it was better than I could have ever expected it to be having seen the original 10 years ago at my age. It's got to be one of the most worthy successors I've ever seen being made that far apart. I didn't think any scene was uninteresting either with dialogue or with visuals. They played on the light and shadow thing that made the original such a visual masterpiece. As far as dialogue it seemed right to me, but you can contest me on that if there is something you think I'm not seeing in that regard.
Bentley Morales
I saw it at BFI IMAX (biggest screen in europe). yes, it was worth it, and for the sound as much as anything
regular is shit and a ripoff, may as well just watch on a decently sized tv
Josiah Taylor
Those were the two absolute weakest aspects of the movie. The fact that the machine of ultimate efficiency left K alive is a hole in the movie.
The other glaring weak spot is Villeneuve's irresistible thirst for pottery in his movies lately. "the person he is hunting is...HIMSELF!!! BRRRRMMMMMMM.......
Evan Brooks
>she only found K's whereabouts from breaking into the LAPD and seeing that his movements were being observed by his superior >she then proceeds to murder his superior in her office and chase K down >somehow you have surmised this means the LAPD will have no interest in K, her or either of their whereabouts
are you sure that you watched the movie, you utter fucking retard?
Blake Johnson
Kids in certain instances can be pretty smart and pure. That's rare though. My mom was a music teacher and I've heard stories about kids for decades. Also I know I was more like that when I was young growing up with a small friend group in the 90s. Internet ruined everything and then you bring in smartphones and social media and it's just completely fucked now.
Jaxon Howard
>machine of ultimate efficiency
Who ever said this? One of the running themes of the movie is how human the replicants are. She clearly enjoys making Police Chief suffer, how was that efficient? If she was a cold calculating killer she would have figured out they didn't have the info she wanted, and left. Probably not even killed anyone.
She was making K suffer. There was no point in smashing JOI, either, but she did it. She also kissed everyone she killed and screamed a lot. Are you retarded?
Benjamin Jones
Anybody here watch it in Dolby Cinema? The fucking subwoofer chairs were incredible. Actual immersive rumble. I can't believe it.
Nathaniel Bell
I'm glad we didn't get a typical bad guy gets what's coming to him climax. Wallace continued to use his replicants as slaves and he suffered no consequences.
Blake Ross
That literally never happened you fucking moron, did you imagine it? She killed his superior because she wouldn't tell her where K was.
Jack Sanders
*Sniiiffffff* Quite pungent my dear
Hunter Lewis
What? Did you not notice her crying when Wallace killed the new born replicant. Or how she brighten up when K called her special. Despite her appearance, it was clear she had a soft spot for K. She followed her orders but that is it.
Samuel Miller
Wallace is the true hero of Blade Runner >Gives Replicants the ability to procreate >Only wishes to spread humanity throughout the reaches of space >Treats the Replicants like his own children >Looks like Jesus he's literally /ourguy/
Luis Gutierrez
>She killed his superior because she wouldn't tell her where K was
umm no she killed bosslady because she knew about the child and that luv stole the bones
Christian Jackson
I'll have to see it again to decide whether I like it or not. Off the bat
1. What is with the location hand holding? Adding "California 2049" added nothing to the film. 2. It lacked the "aliveness" of the first film. You never really got to see the streets like you did in the first film. Anyone who got any screentime had speaking lines - in the first there were scenes that just panned the streets. 3. The last act seemed really hamfisted. In the original, Deckard felt like a "cog in a big machine", K feels like the chosen one. I think it takes away from the uncaring, brutalist, design of the movie.
