So I just watched Rogue 1 with my old man and man, was that movie a hundred times better than Force Awakens. Don't know why, but even with the blatant fanservice scenes (which I loathed in TFA), it just seemed to be a much better movie on its own. Genuinely liked the characters, Jyn didn't seem like a Mary Sue which I feared after Rey, and a lot of it just seemed more interesting. Probably a bit of bias from being a prequel which just has a great deal of interest for me compared to post VI. At least the movie didn't end with a romance, or anyone surviving as they were the suicide squad.
The only cons I could think of while watching it was -Final battle took a bit too long, often rotating around characters twice before they actually do something that made the plot excel. -Mad's character. which was pretty much the standard "reluctant scientist dad dies in offspring's arms" kind of character. I would've preferred it if Cassian had shot him, even if it was non-lethal, just to add to the characterization of the latter. -Tarkin's CG wasn't too good, felt like something out of an EA Games cutscene.
Easton Allen

Because chances are that padawan and my manly urges would result in expulsion from the Jedi Order, unless there is an underground history of sexual abuse of juniors ala the Catholic Church.
This point aside, there is always the next generation of VR with tactile feedback to look forward to.

Yes, you heard that Aayla and Shaak Ti!
Elijah Williams
I didn't think Tarkin's CG was too bad, just the way his mouth moved. It was pretty janky in that first scene when he was introduced but I thought it was a lot better later on
Owen Bailey
maybe I was just too used to CG. Didn't mind it too much, it probably wasn't noticeable for the other audiences. As for the mouth, that's the tell mostly. Like it moved smoother, 40fps on him vs 29fps on everyone else, something like that.

>Sheev Palpitine (Danny Devito) is a galactic chancellor leading an idyllic, peaceful life on Courcucant
>Sheev also happens to be the star of the most popular live show in holovision history. The only problem is, he doesn't know it! In fact, the entire planet of Courcucant is a complete fabrication; a massive set surrounded by a protective dome that produces the most sophisticated effects and imagery to mimic the sky, weather, and temperature of the real world. Set just off of what appears to be the core systens, the dome is run by a massive staff hidden just beyond its barriers and managed by the artistically eccentric Director, Jar Jar Binks (Ed Harris). Jar Jar has filmed Sheev since just before his birth and sees the project as a ray of hope; a way to truthfully portray a person's life nonstop while maintaining their innocence.

I thought Tarkin and Fisher CG was fine. People really complain too much about pointless things. The movies constant jumping in the beginning was more of a problem. I understand the justification of it but it should've been a little more grounded.
I'm more upset a lot of critics have slammed the movie for things they praised in TFA. but then again, a lot of them hated ESB when it was released. Prehaps after all the episodes and spinoffs are finished people will be kinder.
Camden Myers
I like to think that padawans are for sexual, and that is part of why Shaak'Ti is on the Jedi Council; she climbed her way on the sweaty backs and chests of shotas/horny teenagers.
Charles Gutierrez
I think the issue with Tarkin in the movie is that we go in knowing Cushings is dead. So seeing any real kind of likeness is off putting in a deep way. As time goes on we get used to it, which is why theres so many comments that go "but it got better as the movie went on". I was much the same. Tarkins first appearance in the movie made him look, to me, a little rubbery, and his voice was just not right. But by the end the voice and the modle were much better.
Now while the VA may have gotten more comfortable in the role, the modle didnt change between start and finish. So I'd say its all to do with our brains getting used to the sight of a dead man.
Hunter Watson
>Prehaps after all the episodes and spinoffs are finished people will be kinder.
By that time it'll be too late. Opinion will be cemented in the public eye and turning away from it will make you look like a controversial contrarian in the minority trying to go against the grain because it's no longer cool to like TFA but hate RO

Just had a thought. I can imagine the aesthetic for buildings in the Old Republic era would be similar to the wild west. I know that sounds weird but imagine this: in a time before you had advanced technology to mine durasteel or when ships big enough to carry building materials were extremely rare and expensive I can imagine people went to planets and made settlements out of wood or built places out it caves. I imagine most planet settlements looked like towns in a western and only really important buildings like the Old Republic Senate building or the main Jedi temple looked like the castle on Takodana. Then Jedi temples on other planets were probably caves and catacombs similar to the Lothal temple (and to sort of parallel early Christians in Rome sharing bibles in underground catacombs and whatnot).
They could even parallel the Roman Empire and have the Old Republic spread because the government is spreading around huge capital ships to planets to build them proper cities out of mined materials.

I remember how I hated her design at first. Then I discovered how she was raised in an Imperial controlled Mandalore and had to attend the Imperial Academy there.
All that repressed creativity and art had to come out when she escaped.
Honestly I like Sabine, I know she doesn't get to do much which stifles a lot of her development at times and that most people just see her as "the artsy girl with crazy hair colors, how original!", but I think its rather unique for a Star Wars character honestly, at least a major one in canon.
I mean the Clones themselves also did it, originally us believing and maybe even some of them themselves that they weer Mandalorians, they loved decorating their armor when they got the chance and giving them distinct personalities. Mostly because they were all Clones and needed a way to distinguish themselves, but it fits well with Sabine.
She was raised in a Mandalorian culture where as you said, all that was stifled, you're just another faceless grunt/pilot in the Empire, you're nothing beyond that, and Mandalorian culture has that a lot with their Armor, especially Death Watch, you're expendable for the cause, here is your armor, you are nothing but this.
Its actually really nice.

I can't argue that sadly.
My only real problem with Sabine is her armor, and not the coloring, which I think the shading and contrast works rather well with the gray/tan undergarments and the hair color which is meant to make it all pop more aesthetically, unlike Boba's which is just variants of green, tan, and yellow, and the shades of green always bothered me as a collective.
But my problem with her armor is that it very clearly doesn't fit her. Like she's had the armor since she was a pre-teen and escaped from the Empire and went on the run towards the Black Sun and eventually the Rebellion. So the whole thing makes it look more like paper mache, than it does an actual well fitting armor. Which I hope if and likely when she does become Mandalore, they give her a proper set of armor more reminiscent of Death Watch for instance.
William Reed
Are you sure about that?

Not entirely. Ranked members probably were able to stylize their armor. Bo-Katan got a pass because she was on a somewhat similar position with Vizsla in the Mandalorian social hierarchy.
Pic somewhat related. He definitely wasn't one of the average grunts.

I'm still amazed this and many others exist. Its just ridiculous, especially the Mickey Mouse ones, even though it was George Lucas that stated Jango and Boba weren't Mandalorians.

Fair enough, but I don't imagine Sabine was exactly there yet in a culture that as you said, the high ranking members were very creative in some of the stuff they've done.
I always felt the creativity and art gave more personality to the Mandalorians than just warriors or faceless warriors, which is appreciative.
Mason Bailey
Merry Christmas, /swco/ What are your plans for today?

I heard an argument from Tumblr that she was designed that way. Over the course of the seasons, she starts to war more armor (Season 2 has her wear sleeves and season 3 has her with an utility belt that covers her midsection).
Is Sabine supposed to have a human skintone or yellow/orange?
Joshua Torres
She's sort of a tanned yellow
Brayden Green
Human, she's designed to look Indian.

Yellow.

It does seem that way, which I like. Its some nice progression that actually flows to show she is becoming more typical Mandalorian as it goes on.
Hopefully said argument/theory does hold true and we get to see her straight up in armor leading the Mandalorians, or hell still with the Ghost Crew as they continue their stuff. I always assumed she was more of like a tanned asian, sort of like a Mongolian due to the desert.

>Fair enough, but I don't imagine Sabine was exactly there yet in a culture that as you said, the high ranking members were very creative in some of the stuff they've done. True enough. Though without Imperial occupation, she probably would've gotten there since she's possibly the heir to a Clan head, which were probably the types who had more style/personalized paint schemes.
>I always felt the creativity and art gave more personality to the Mandalorians than just warriors or faceless warriors, which is appreciative. Yeah. Though I do appreciate that they've made Mandalorians as a whole a more uniformed, military like culture compared to how they were portrayed in the EU. And compared to the Clones as far as armor presentation went.
Pic related is also a neat thing to think about in regards to Mandos too.
Thomas Barnes
Doesn't have one. There is the occasional reference to Earth however in some stuff being in a galaxy nearby or in the Outer Rim for instance if I recall.

That actually is an interesting read and gives a little more credence to my annoyance with Boba's armor colors.
I do agree with you that I like them being far more uniformed by Satine's time than they were in the EU. In the EU they honestly felt like a bunch of savages that just never really got together even with a Mandalore (outside of some instances when Boba was Mandalore). They always felt, sort of like Saw's Rebel Faction honestly. They were just sort of extremists that did their own thing and weren't ever really uniformed.
I do hope the houses and their distinctions are touched upon more going forward, even if its in a comic or some brief mentions here and there. I feel as though people have taken the Boba/Jango stuff from Lucas and the Mandalorians in TCW and Rebels way too hard honestly. I think they're a good representation of old vs. new and finally making them their own unique thing that fits with the universe.
My issue with Rebels is that it's just the empire the empire the empire. The OT wasn't like that, they trained with Yoda, messed around with slug gangsters etc. while TWC sure as hell wasn't like that, sometimes going full Star Trek in their exploration of the galaxy.
