Can citizens secede from their state?

IL fag here... most of our state is republican leaning but Chicago and the few surrounding counties have such a large population that we get fucked over all the time

Our delegates go to Democrats in presidential elections, our state legislature is almost always deadlocked between Chicago liberals and the conservatives in the rest of the state.

Is there some way that citizens/counties/districts could chose to secede from their home state and either become a territory or a new state? I know it's not likely to happen but is it possible?

Since Chicago PD doesn't really care anymore, I figure we could rent a party bus, drive through the Congo areas and just shoot at every corner full of nigs.

Were you thinking of something boring and political?

sovereign citizen is a joke. and there is no way in hell any state would let some group claim a chunk and say it's no longer part of the state.

...

I'm not talking about sovereign citizen bullshit.

Could a group within an existing state petition for statehood and carve out a new state?

too many things like budget and voters are tied into the carefully divided districts. I can't imagine any state would give up territory.

What are other based states ruined by "urbanites".

Maryland, PA and NY come to mind.

It's pretty much a given that if you're seceding from something the establishment government is going to oppose it.

However, if a majority of it's people in a region want it surely there's a way.

They tried that already

I don't even believe there is currently an "official" way for actual states to secede.

Secession essentially amounts to telling your governing body to fuck off and then stationing armed citizens around what you call your border in order to repel said governing body.

This isn't feasible for two reasons: one, after what happened during the civil war the federal government is NOT going to allow any citizens to claim that any territory in this country is no longer under the federal government's jurisdiction. If you try, they're just going to march in there and arrest you.
Two: in order for a collection of people to be considered a country, rather than just a group of people standing around on some land, they must be formally recognized as such by another existing country.

No country is going to risk the ire of the US by legitimizing your tiny rebel territory as a country.

There are only two states that can realistically secede: texas and alaska.

Other than that, the federal government can just push your shit in before you even start.

I don't think OP wants to leave the United States. He wants the conservative areas of Illinois to secede from Illinois and create a new state

Sovereignty is determined by force.
Unless you get a state to garranty your sovereignty ( making you their bitch-sorry, their vassal ), the only way for it to happen is for you to be more trouble than your worth, like being able to singlehandedly kill millions or render vast areas unusable.

If you don't have nukes, neutrons bombs, aren't a cyborg, don't have vials of grey goo and others niceties, you can't be a sovereign citizen.

CHECKED

Well, since you'd still be under the federal government's jurisdiction, it might be theoretically possible without them fucking you up.

But bear in mind that, even if there isn't any law on the books that prevents a state from being split into two new ones, you can at minimum expect a sea of red tape and years of court proceedings.

Frankly it'd just be easier for all IL's conservatives to go to a conservative state, let the liberals who stay behind suffer from the loss in workforce.

States are corporations and corporations are people.

DIGITZZZZZZ

Why not just put together a militia and clean out the liberal hell holes?

there is no political solution for a corrupt political system

>muh articles of confederation

no

I weep for you, having to suffer under the corrupt Chicago voter-fraud machine. Also, do you have any idea what makes the quad cities such a left-wing powerhouse? I know several Chicagoans and they're not that bad.

Illinois really does suck ass. Chicago ruins everything about this state. Everyone south and west of the city is aware of this. It's a shame that one city can control laws of an entire state. Big cities like Chicago, NYC, LA, etc. should be considered their own state. They are given too much control over a large portion of the states population that don't share their political viewpoints.

All I can think of as precedent was West Virginia separating from Virginia in 1861(?) because those counties sided with the union and Virginia sided with the confederacy. However, that can be construed as those western portions of Virginia NOT wanting to secede like the southern and eastern parts of the state, which would again tie the words "secede" and "secession" to the bad guys. I'm unsure of which came first, the secession of Virginia and then West Virginia separating and going back to the union, or West Virginia seceding from Virginia before Virginia seceded.
